Introit O Filii Et Filiae with Alleluias (Hymns of the Spirit)
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Past are the cross, the scourge, the thorn, the scoffing tongue, the gibe, the scorn, and brightly breaks the eastern morn. Alleluia!
Gone are gloomy clouds of night; the shades of death are put to flight; and from the tomb beams heav’nly light. Alleluia!
Please rise as you are able.
Sunshine Cathedral Affirmation
Sunshine Cathedral is a different kind of church where:
*Our God is love.
*Kindness is our worship.
*Compassion is our prayer.
*The sacred value of all people is our creed; and
*Healing the hurts caused by hatred is our mission.
The Call to Worship
One: Alleluia! Christ is risen.
All: Christ is risen, indeed. Alleluia!
Crucifer - Tito McWilliams - Ramos
Processional Hymn Lo, the Day of Days is Here (HoS)
Lo, the day of days is here, Earth puts on her robes of cheer:
Day of hope and prophecy, Feast of immortality!
Fields are smiling in the sun, loosened streamlets seaward run, Tender blade and leaf appear, ‘tis the springtide of the year!
Lo, the day of days is here, hearts, awake and sing with cheer!
The One who robes earth anew careth for all people too. Those who hold to hope and faith triumph over fear and death;
Speaks the angel by the door ‘They are risen’ evermore.
Lo, the day of days is here, music thrills the atmosphere. Join, you people all and sing Love and praise and thanksgiving!
Rocky steep or flow’ry mead, one the Shepherd that doth lead;
One the hope within us born, one the joy of Easter morn. Amen.
Opening Prayer by Rev Dr Durrell Watkins
One: Lord Jesus, in whose memory and spirit we now pray, we rejoice that life is everlasting, hope cannot be kept down, joy will not stay dead, and love can never be killed.
Stories of your life, death, and unending presence beyond death give us inspiration and comfort and strength.
Your light could not be dimmed. We, in your name and for your sake, will let our light shine brightly today.
The words of the poet Maya Angelou ring in our hearts: ‘You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise.’
With you, Anointed One, we rise with wings of love on winds of joy, and we celebrate the indomitable power of life. Alleluia.
All: Alleluia. Amen.
Please be seated.

The Gospel According to Mark (16.1-8)
RevDr Anne Atwell
When the Sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices with which to go and anoint him.
And very early in the morning on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen.
They had been saying to one another, 'Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?'
But when they looked they saw that the stone -- which was very big -- had already been rolled back.
On entering the tomb they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right-hand side, and they were struck with amazement.
But he said to them, 'There is no need to be so amazed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified: he has risen, he is not here. See, here is the place where they laid him.
But you must go and tell his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you to Galilee; that is where you will see him, just as he told you."
And the women came out and ran away from the tomb because they were frightened out of their wits; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
In these human words, God’s voice is heard. Thanks be to God.

Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, wheat that in dark earth for many days has lain. Love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again like wheat that rises green.

I believe in miracles, I’ve seen a soul set free. Miraculous the change in one who has found liberty. I’ve seen a lily push its way up through the stubborn sod; O I believe in miracles for I believe in God.
I believe in miracles, I’ve seen a soul set free.
Miraculous the change in one who has found liberty. I’ve seen a lily push its way up through the stubborn sod;
O I believe in miracles for I believe in God.
One: Because we value our community and believe in our inspired mission, because we want every person to live with hope and joy, and because we know that even a little can mean a lot, we participate in the Sacrament of Sharing, the joyful giving of resources meant to help more and more people discover that they are God’s miracle and not God’s mistake.
All: We give what we can and do so with love. Every dime and every dollar given with the intention to bless others will make a difference in someone’s life. This brings us joy, and in this way, we worship. God bless our gifts to faithful service, for the sake of your love. Amen.

One: We pray, and we allow ourselves to be the answer to prayer.
Prayer Chorus
As We Sing of Hope & Joy
If a crumbling world we would renew, we must sing no ordinary song, peals from a noisy gong will never do; in every breath compassion must belong.
Let this song our greatest hopes contain: Laughter of a well-fed child its tune, roofs over every heartbeat its refrain, its harmony from peaceful cities hewn.
Sing of joy while hammering each nail. Sing of hope while pulling every weed, so shall we sing together and prevail; may every Alleluia bear a seed.
One: For the Sunshine Cathedral Global Fellowship and local congregation, for all who are on our prayer list, for our loved ones, for world and community leaders, and for our own needs, let us pray:
All: We ask for divine blessings. We believe that miracles are possible. We give thanks for grace equal to every need.
One: And with people all over the world we pray –
All: May peace prevail on earth.
These prayers we offer in the names of all helpers of humanity, and in the spirit of Jesus, son of Mary, as we continue to pray as Jesus taught us:
Model Prayer
Creator which art in heaven, hallowed be thy names. Thy kin-dom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And leave us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kin-dom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Please be seated.
Eucharistic Intentions
9:00 Rev Marian Cavagnaro /10:30 Rev Margarita Rodriguez
We celebrate this Eucharist to the glory of God and with special intentions for peace, justice, and reconciliation in the world.
Christ lives in story, in ritual, and in our lives as we remember Jesus at this table. And so, with Easter gladness, let us sing together:
Christ the Lord is risen today, alleluia!
Mortal tongues and angels say: alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, alleluia!
Sing, glad heavens, and earth reply: alleluia!
Let the victor’s people sing, alleluia!
Where, O death, is now your sting? Alleluia!
Dying once, Christ lives today, alleluia!
Where your victory, O grave? Alleluia!

LET US PRAY ...
In life there is pain; there is also comfort. There is dis-ease; and, there is healing. There are challenges, and there is strength equal to the challenges.
There is uncertainty, and there is love, companionship, & kindness to help us face the unknown.
There is anxiety, and there is hope greater than anxiety.
Alleluia for the blessings of peace & joy that circumstances cannot diminish. Alleluia for infinite possibilities.
Amen.
REMEMBER
Prayers can be submitted via SunshineCathedral.org or by emailing any SC clergyperson.
You can hear a prayer at anytime by calling 954.462.2004 (press 6).
Our sacred stories give us ways of expressing the hope that life is more than what we currently see and know. Our stories are human creativity and genius giving expression to our intuition that life is more than meets the eye.
Whether or not we take the stories literally, we see in them an affirmation that not only is life more than a few years in a body, but when we feel lifeless, broken, defeated, overwhelmed, dead-tired, and hopeless, there are new experiences of life waiting for us. Life is ubiquitous, life is everlasting, and life finds a way to be expressed.
Thich Nhat Hanh wrote, “We die so many times a day… And thanks to spiritual practice we also come back to life several times a day.”
Spiritual practice. Practicing hope, practicing courage, practicing resilience, practicing a vision of justice-love, practice is what we need and that’s what we are doing as a worshiping community, we are practicing resurrection possibilities.
Why must we practice resurrection - resurrection hope, resurrection possibilities? Because, there is no shortage of those who are practicing crucifixion.
Jesus touched the untouchable. He loved the unloved. He gave voice to the voiceless. He fed the hungry, and he told outcasts that he saw them and their innate dignity. He helped the sick and tired feel whole. In a crazy world, he helped people feel a bit saner. And in a world of empire, he dared to dream out loud about a divine kin-dom where the first are last and the last are first and swords are never drawn and love is the law and the lord of the land. He threatened the status quo, and for that "crime," he was tortured to death. Why do we crucify love?
Love is being crucified even still.
People, for who they are and for the love they share, for their innermost truth and their desire to live peacefully but not in shadows or silence, are under attack. In a world where love is crucified, it is our duty to practice resurrection.
When love is attacked, love louder.
When the people we love are dehumanized, demonized, or demoralized, love them more fiercely. When hate roars, let love roar back. When the world seems to knock the life out of us, be determined to rise again. When the world wants to render us lifeless, frozen, let us live out loud anyway. When the world tries to bury us, let us be the angel that opens the graves for one another so that we can each reemerge into a realm of infinite possibilities.
Let us practice a spirituality that is life-giving and renewing and that is powered by justice-love. Keep rising, keep hoping, keep loving. Keep practicing resurrection.
Love is still being crucified. We are resurrection people, though, and we will see Love rise again and again. Easter says: Love wins!
A PRAYER FOR 2024 by Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins
(Put this prayer where you will see it every day and use it throughout 2024)
Right now, I am tapping into the universal life force. I wish for all who are suffering to find relief and hope. I deny fear any power over me.
I will be a bright light in the world.
I am serene and confident and full of joy.
I expect blessings. Nothing is too good for me.
May we all be strong and wise and loving.
May Love heal our world. Let there be peace. Amen.

TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY - is an annual day of recognition around the world dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender expansive people while also raising awareness that there is still work to be done to overcome discrimination and violence toward the transgender community. Until TDOV, the Trans Day of Remembrance was the only Trans focused day of recognition.
Easter is a time when possibilities, even miracles, become visible. Tombs (and closets) are left behind, hope rises, love lives on.
Today, Easter Sunday, let us hold our Transgender friends in our hearts. Today, may they know they are seen and valued. Today, Resurrection Day, they are visible.
A TDOV GIFT FOR YOU - Easter Sunday (March 31) is Transgender Day of Visibility and we have a sweet reminder of it for our Sunday Guests.
Be sure to get your package of Vanilla Sugar provided by Penzeys’ Spices.
This exceptional company is a voice for many worthwhile social causes and a staunch defender of LGBTQ+ people and this wonderful seasoning (and its message) is great in baking or your morning coffee.
SEEING RED – April 24, 2024 at 7pm. $20. Through the incredible generosity of one of our members (okay, it’s Mike Bosco) we have an opportunity to taste 9 or 10 different Cabernet vintages - and to explore the differences that terroir and a winemaker can make using the same varietal! We will also taste foods that actually pair well with that bold grape. But wait! There’s more.
Living in the Red/One is the Loneliest Number: An additional group of non-Cabernet grapes (including some even I haven’t seen) will also be tasted. You don’t have to like them all - but here is a chance to taste varieties you may not be familiar with.
Did we mention the one of a kind bottle raffle?
Liquor and wine - expensive to affordable - will be raffled off in a card match game. Raffle tickets available to those in attendance ($10 each).
This is fund-raiser for Sunshine Cathedral. Guests limited to 25 and tickets are $20.00. Available at SunshineCathedral.org under GIVE tab.
LOAVES & FISHES – Non-perishable food items are collected the first Sunday of every month to help stock our food pantry that serves up to a thousand people many weeks. Please bring food donations next week, April 7.
RESURRECTION IN THE PRESENT MOMENT (by Kaira Jewel Lingo) - Resurrection is coming back to life, starting over. We each have a chance to come back to life in every moment. When we come back to our breath, when we really come back to our steps, to the food we are putting in our mouths, to what we are drinking, to what we are saying, we have a chance to come back to life.
We can be there in that moment and not be dead to the reality in front of us — not lost in thoughts and worries. The only moment we have is the present moment. It’s the only place where we can really be alive and touch life. So, as we celebrate Easter and the renewing of life, we can touch the resurrection of each of our lives.
Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts Remember to pickup the latest copy of the Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts Season Guide for 2023 - 2024 (Issue 3: March 2024). Several new shows have been added for later this year.
March 31: Rene Descartes (1596 in France – 1650 in Sweden) – Descartes wrote, “God is the First Cause which must have produced the idea of God in the thinker.” Of course, his most famous quote is, “I think, therefore I am.” He believed that Mind knows Itself before anything else. He encouraged methodic doubt, saying it “is necessary for honest thought.”
April 2: St. Mary of Egypt (344 – 421) – according to legend Mary of Egypt was a sexually insatiable libertine who went on an “anti-pilgrimage” to Jerusalem for the sole purpose of having dalliances with pilgrims. She tried to enter a church and an invisible force wouldn’t permit her to do so. She then noticed an icon of the Blessed Lady Mary (Mother of the Lord) and dedicated her life to God on the spot. She then was able to enter the church. A “voice” told her that if she were to cross the Jordan, she would find rest. She went to a monastery on the bank of the Jordan, made confession and received Holy Communion, and then crossed the river to spend the rest of her days as a hermit. She died alone and wasn’t found for a year. When her body was found, it had not begun the decomposition process. The person who found her buried her with the help of a passing lion!
April 4: Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) —Apostle of freedom and renewer of society. Martin earned first a Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, then a seminary degree from Crozier Divinity School, and finally a Ph.D. in Theology from Boston University. Later he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was the spiritual leader of the modern Civil Rights movement. Inspired by the example of Gandhi, he led a campaign of nonviolent resistance to racial segregation, racism and poverty. He is best remembered for his famous “I Have a Dream” speech given at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. He was repeatedly jailed and in 1968 he was assassinated in Memphis, TN.

Sunshine Cathedral is preparing to move to a new kind of church record keeping solution called Realm. We are integrating two programs that has been used from over the past 18 years, easyTithe and Servant Keeper, into one administrative platform program, it is time to upgrade! It primarily serves the administrative needs of our staff, but it also offers some exciting opportunities to support the ways you are involved and connected with Sunshine Cathedral.
Not only will this improve work life for our ministry staff, it will make it easier for our Sunshine Cathedral community, local or global, to connect with each other, keep up with what’s going on, and position Sunshine Cathedral for continued growth.
There are three things you should know before we highlight what you can do:
1. We are updating tools that our staff uses to run the daily operations of our Sunshine Cathedral.
2. We’re adding more ways to communicate and connect as a church, all while leaving current methods in place.
3. You will be able to determine how much you want to make this part of your experience with our church, but we encourage you to participate.
Transitioning. . .
If you use our current online giving platform, easyTithe, there is nothing that you need to do.
The official program transition will begin 2 April. Even during this transition period you may continue to use easyTithe until April 30. It is anticipated that by, or before this date, the integration will be completed.
EVERYONE, that Sunshine Cathedral has working email address for will receive an invitation to join the Realm. Once approved, you will be given access to set and maintain your own profile to include setting up your weekly, bi-weekly or monthly online recurring giving; upload a selfie for you or your family, select groups you wish to participate in, a downloadable app for your smart devices and much, much more.
For now, stay the course with any online giving and we will keep you updated on next steps.
If you have any questions, at any time, please contact Pastor Robert at 954.462.2004 ext 206 or by email at Robert@SunshineCathedral.org
