Remembering Dad

It was an easy decision for Lyle Schumacher's family to donate a portion of his memorial monies to the Sunshine Hospitality Home.

“Lyle's wife, Rosalie, and their children spent a week in St. Cloud, MN while Lyle was hospitalized with a heart condition and having numerous procedures,” said Debra Lazur, daughter of Lyle and Rosalie. “There was not much time for the family to make plans when they decided to transport Lyle from Altru to St. Cloud. Family friends told us to stay at the Gorecki Guest Home in St. Cloud where they had spent several weeks.

The Home was close to the hospital. It was welcoming, warm, inviting, relaxing, and far better than having to travel across town to a hotel room. There were dining rooms, TV rooms, kitchens to cook meals, comfortable furniture, a computer, exercise room; a true home away from home. The Home was just steps across the street from the hospital which made for leaving the hospital a bit easier to take a break during the day or at night as we knew it could only take us a couple minutes to get back if there was a need. As a result of our experience, we decided that one way of helping our community was to support the Sunshine Hospitality Home in Grand Forks. You don't realize the need, until you need it. Please consider making a donation to the Sunshine Hospitality Home.”

Soup for Sunshine

This past spring, St. Mary’s Altar Society raised money during Wednesday night soup suppers over Lent to make a donation to the Sunshine Hospitality Home. “We like to support local charities and felt this was a good charity. There is a need for what the Sunshine Hospitality Home can do for our community,” said Cathy Richard.
