The Hamilton Fire Bugs will bring Greerton Village Square to light next month with their fire performances.
Plans are being finalised for an evening of fire and light in Greerton next month, building on the success of Greerton Village Mainstreet’s inaugural ‘Lantern and Light Show’ held last year.
Mainstreet manager Victoria Thomas says the Illumin Art street show will be held in the village square on July 13, with an expanded format to build on the success of last year’s event. “Last year was really great but the only problem was it rained late in the night, so this year we are encouraging everyone to bring their umbrellas and coats.”
Poetry winners Winners in the Katikati Haiku Contest will be announced at the Haiku Festival Aotearoa from 7pm on Saturday June 16. All are welcome to attend the prizegiving at Greerton Motor Inn (Tauranga RSA). Some 300 entries were received in the senior section (down from 445 in 2010) and 388 in the junior section (up from 117 in 2010). Judging the contest has been Athenree poet and teacher Owen Bullock (senior) and Haiku Pathway founder Catherine Mair (junior), while Kings Seeds has sponsored the $260 in prize money.
Aquinas College water polo team takes silver Aquinas College’s water polo team took second in the Challenger Cup in Hamilton at Queen’s Birthday weekend. Coach Kellie Low picked her top players from the boys’ and girls’ teams to create a mixed team for this event, because of the high level of competition. Kellie says she was pleased with the team and the hard work that they put in. “I think it’s a great reward for these kids for all the effort they’ve put in, and all the times they’ve been at training.”
