Surrey Police Service in 2023 attending hundreds of events, community meetings, religious institutions, schools, and local organizations throughout 2023. In Surrey’s South Asian community, SPS attended the Lohri Shagna Si event, Diwali events, Guru Nanak Food Bank Lunch, Punjabi Press Club, India Day celebration, Mela Gadri Babian Da, Miri Piri Nagar Kirtan, and many more.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) continued their extensive efforts to both engage with Surrey communities and serve Surrey residents as first responders throughout 2023.

S

PS police officers have now been responding to policing call for service in Surrey for two years, with over 200 officers actively working in regular police operations, and more readying for deployment. While SPS officers are still driving RCMP vehicles for the time being, approximately half of the frontline police response in Surrey is done by SPS officers. SPS officers are also actively working in investigative teams, gang enforcement, mental health outreach, traffic, and more.

December 2023 marks three years since Norm Lipinski became SPS’s first Chief Constable. In the past three years, SPS has grown from one employee to 400 employees. SPS continues to hire both recruits and experienced officers who are diverse in their skills, gender, and cultural background. To date, 49% of SPS police

officers identify as being of a visible minority or Indigenous, with 23% of officers identifying as South Asian. Our officers speak 35 different languages, with 55 speaking Punjabi and 34 speaking Hindi. SPS’s commitment to diversity extends to their work in the community, with SPS officers

Despite the challenges of an unprecedented policing transition and the unexpected delays following the 2022 municipal election, SPS has continued to make progress over the past year. An additional 70 officers were deployed into policing operations this year, and 37 recruits graduated from the JIBC Police Academy while three more classes began their training. With the provincial government’s final decision to continue with the policing transition and the recent enactment of the Police Amendment Act, there is no doubt that the community will see the transition to Surrey Police Service accelerate in 2024.

Consuming water boiled with coriander seeds or cumin seeds will be useful to support digestion. Consume sweets in the early part of the meal, followed by sour and salt

items, backed up by foods with pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes. If you feel heavy after meals, skip the next meal; support your digestion by not loading it again and giving it time to recover. If you have a low appetite ensure that you have well-cooked and light foods on the onset of proper appetite. Maintain the gap between the meals properly; do not consume any kind of food in between meals. Consume buttermilk processed with ginger, cumin, and rock salt in the lunch which improves the gut health. Avoid sweets, milk products, and fried food in the dinner. Go for light-cooked food or some soups. Do not mix milk and milk products with vegetables or non-veg as they act antagonistic to each other. Recent research has unearthed a fascinating link between our gut microbiota (microbes residing in our digestive tract), the immune system, and diabetes risk. Gut Microbiota and Diabetes: A Significant Association Numerous studies have highlighted a substantial link between alterations in the makeup of gut microbiota and the onset of diabetes. To put it simply, the types and amounts of bacteria residing in our gut

can impact our risk of diabetes. Among the commonly and consistently reported findings, the genera of Bifidobacterium, Bacteroides, Faecalibacterium, Akkermansia, and Roseburia have been found to be negatively associated with Type 2 Diabetes, while the genera of Ruminococcus, Fusobacterium, and Blautia have been found to be positively associated with the disease. This time though, the film’s leading lady Katrina Kaif gets a welldefined character arc with a convincing backstory, a solid motive and context. Katrina pulls off an action-heavy role with ease, kicking some serious butt. Her fight scene in towel with Asian American actress Michelle Lee is nicely done.

This time around, Pritam’s music falls short of leaving a lasting impact. The writing tends to portray Pakistan as the perennial antagonist without delving into nuanced motivations and the complex geo-political landscape of the continent. The dialogues lack the punch to evoke constant applause and seetis from Bhai fans. Despite such heavy dependence on VFX, ‘Tiger 3’ lacks the required finesse in many scenes, much like its jarring background score (by Tanuj Tiku). The swift pacing makes up for many a flaws, with a taut edit by Rameshwar S. Bhagat.

even memory. The symptoms will first appear to be of a mild state; however, they will progress with time and unfortunately worsen and become more severe. This process is known as ‘Cognitive Decline’. The signs of this condition are anxiety, restlessness, not wishing to play anymore, slow to learn new training, disorientation, decreased grooming, confusion, forgetting previous training, no control over urinating or defecating, sleep patterns altered, decreased appetite, excessive licking, frustration and barking. According to statistics, it is seen that at least one out of every three dogs that are over the age of ten will display at least one sign of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. If you feel that your dog may be showing any of these signs, then your veterinarian can perform a full physical examination. He or she will also need a full history of when the symptom(s) initially presented themselves, in order to conduct a proper diagnosis of this condition. Other diagnostic measures may also be performed in order to rule out any other underlying causes for such exhibiting signs. Canines that are diagnosed with Dog Dementia will then begin a long-term treatment of supportive care for this condition. Such care will consist of improving your dog’s living environment and health in order to maintain an ideal

condition for improvement. This will allow the Cognitive Decline to be delayed and not progress as quickly otherwise. Changes in exercise routine, playing time and also training, or needing to train again, will be introduced as well. Other adjustments that can be made to facilitate a dog with this condition is to provide night lights for your canine companion to navigate throughout the house easier in the dark. Place training pads near your dog so that there is a place for him or her to use the washroom in case of an emergency, where they cannot control their urination or bowel movement. Certain medications or behavioral treatments may also be advised by your veterinarian based on the individual case of your pet. Diet is also a key component to managing a better lifestyle. Certain supplements can also be added to the diet regiment in order to help with your dog’s cognitive function. Paul Rudd opens up on ‘very restrictive’ diet while preparing for ‘Ant-Man’ A ctor Paul Rudd had to undergo a very strict, regulated and restrictive diet in order to build his physique for playing Scott Lang in ‘Ant-Man’ films.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Off Menu’ podcast, where guests talk about their ‘dream menu’, the show’s hosts Ed Gamble and James Acaster asked the actor what type of water he preferred to which he gave an amusing reply. Rudd said: “When I was having to train for the ‘Ant-Man’ movie, and I was on a very restrictive diet, my reward was sparkling water. That’s how horrible that diet was. I was like, ‘Alright, I’m gonna have some sparkling water now, I’ve earned it’.”

The actor said that during his rigorous training to get him all ripped up, and in proper shape, as a reward he would have a lot of ‘sparkling water’, reports Hollywood Reporter.

He said, “Once you’re in it, it’s actually not too hard,” adding that he didn’t mind having “really boring food, every time, over and over again”, especially since he would wake up with “tons of energy”.

‘The 40-year old virgin’ star added: “I remember on ‘Endgame’, Chris Hemsworth would always have these Tupperware containers and he’s eating this gruel of just a mash of stuff.

Asked whether the other MCU actors would ‘take notes’ from each other while training for working on their ensemble films, such as ‘Captain America: Civil War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Rudd said, “I mean, I think people kind of are. But I also think I worked out harder than anyone, I would eat better than everyone, and I looked worse than all of them.

“He’s working out, and then you stand next to a guy like that, and I just think, ‘Well, what’s the point of any of this?’ Why am I killing myself when that can exist, and then I look at myself and this exists. I can never achieve that. … That was the good thing that it was Ant-Man, it wasn’t Thor. But I tried to work out, and it didn’t work.”

On November 24, the supermodel took to her Instagram account to condemn Israel in a series of posts. The 28-year-old star, whose father Mohamed Hadid is a Palestinian, put Israel on blast when commenting on the hostage exchange deal that was reached between Hamas and Israel, reports aceshowbiz.com. The model talked about young Palestinian Ahmed Manasra, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression. Ahmed was arrested in 2015 for stabbing and injuring two Israeli citizens in Pisgat Zeev.

BAGICHE KI TIKKI Ingredients: 4 Mashed boiled potato 4 Tomato 4 Onion 4 Capsicum 4 Black pepper powder 4 All spice mix powder / Garam masala 4 Black salt 4 Salt 4 Chaat masala 4 Oil Method: 4 Take boiled potato in a bowl. Add tomato, onion, capsicum, black pepper powder, all spice mix powder, black salt, salt, and chaat masala and mix everything well. 4 Take a small ball-sized portion of the mixture. Press it with hands and prepare tikkis. 4 Meanwhile, heat a tawa over medium flame. Grease it with oil. Place the tikki on the tawa. 4 Add oil to it. Roast them on a low flame for 2-3 mins. 4 Flip it and cook it on low flame from another side. Likewise, roast all tikkis. Once done take it out on the serving plate. NAVRATAN KHEER Ingredients: 4 White pumpkin (lauki) 4 Sabudana or sago pearls 4 Milk

Boil the grated pumpkin in at least ½ litre of milk for about 10 mins. When cool, make into a paste. 4 Cook the remaining milk with sugar. Then add lauki paste, soaked sabudana and khoya. Allow it to cook till it reduces to almost half of its volume and reaches a smooth texture. 4 Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Add chopped fruits to the kheer. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Serve chilled, garnish with Kabuli anardana. PANEER DIL KHUSH TIKKA Ingredients: 4 Paneer 4 Yellow chili powder 4 Red chili powder

here are certain customs and traditions that are synonymous with the holiday season in Canada – some you may have heard of broadly, others might seem new or have a Canadian touch to it. Here’s a look at five popular holiday traditions: 1. Holiday shopping and exchanging gifts The holiday season is incomplete without shopping and gifts. Exchanging holiday cards and gifts is a tradition in Canada. A fun spin on exchanging gifts is the Secret Santa game. A quick online search will reveal many variations of this game exist. Generally speaking, it is an arrangement where a group of friends or colleagues are randomly assigned a person, to whom they give a gift, typically costing no more than a set amount. The identity of the gift giver is kept a secret and isn’t revealed. Another holiday custom is exchanging Christmas crackers as party favors. They are borrowed from the U.K. Christmas traditions. Generally, a cracker is placed next to each plate on the Christmas dinner table. When the two sides of the wrapper are pulled, it makes a small popping sound and a colorful party hat, a toy, or gift, and a festive joke falls out of the cracker. For those celebrating Hanukkah, there’s a tradition of giving coins or even bills, called Hanukkah Gelt. If families don’t wish to hand over money to children, they have an option of gifting chocolate Hanukkah Gelt. Many Canadians open their gifts on Christmas Eve. Some will only open one gift or the gifts from their stockings on Christmas Eve and save others for Christmas Day. 2. Decorating the Christmas tree Christmas trees are usually evergreen, the only trees that are still green by the time the winter has arrived. The most popular Christmas trees in Canada fall into the pine, fir, or spruce families. These are not only supplied locally but are also exported. The Christmas tree is a key physical

symbol of Christmas worldwide. It signifies life, longevity, light in the darkest time, and magical powers during the deepest winter. Most families in Canada will set up a Christmas tree at home and decorate it with various ornaments such as garlands, baubles, tinsel, and candy canes. An angel or star might be placed at the top of the tree to represent the Angel Gabriel or the Star of Bethlehem, respectively. Edible items such as gingerbread, chocolate and other sweets are also popular and are tied to or hung from the tree’s branches with ribbons. Gifts are placed at the foot of the Christmas tree. 3. Relishing holiday food Canadians celebrate Christmas with special meals including eggnog, roast turkey, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Traditional Christmas desserts are reminiscent of U.K. classics like Christmas plum puddings and mincemeat tarts. A rich fruit Christmas cake is also a Christmas favourite. Canada is a melting pot of many cultures, and many have their own traditional Christmas foods that they indulge in during the holidays. Canadian Ukrainian families, for instance, will have their traditional 12 meal dishes for Christmas. Some French families are known to attend the midnight mass and then have a huge feast or party on Christmas Eve called a Réveillon that goes on into the early hours of Christmas morning. The traditional Christmas meal for people residing in Quebec is a stew called ragoût aux pattes de cochons made from pig’s feet. However, many people now have an ourtière, a meat pie made from venison (or pork or beef). Christmas cookie-baking parties among Canadian families are very common. Each family uses their own recipe to bake the cookies and then exchanges them with other families. Gingerbread people and houses are also holiday favorites, along with cheese straws. At the end of the party, each family goes home with a variety of different cookies to enjoy over

the Christmas season. Those celebrating Hanukkah will prepare a Hanukkah feast, which includes potato latkes (pronounced as lot-kuh) and crispy potato pancakes, served with applesauce or sour cream. Jelly doughnuts are also a popular dessert. In some provinces, the Inuit (natives or First Nations indigenous people of Canada) celebrate Sinck Tuck. This celebration consists of dancing and gift exchanging; it is linked to their winter solstice celebration. Their meals include caribou, raw fish, seal, and other foods that are native to the area. 4. Attending holiday events and parades The holiday season is one of the most festive times of the year in Canada. Christmas parades, light shows, and other festive markets are popular holiday attractions in various cities across the nation. Christmas parades are held in November and December. Some are massive-scale parades and are very well-known in Canada, while others are organized on a smaller scale and are more local. For example, Toronto’s Santa Claus Parade is one of the oldest and largest Santa parades in the world. This large-scale event consists of over 25 animated floats, various marching bands, and over 2000 people and is broadcast on television globally. Similarly, Vancouver has the Rogers Santa Claus Parade that many people attend. Lights festivals are also popular. Some of the popular ones are the Winter Festival of Lights at Niagara Falls, the VanDusen Festival of Light in Vancouver, and the Aurora Winter Festival held in Vancouver and Toronto. 5. Giving back to the community Giving back and volunteering is a way of life in Canada and is usually wellregarded and valued in Canadian society. Many Canadians join in the holiday spirit by giving back in cash or kind or both. According to Statistics Canada, in 2018, over 12.7 million people (41 per cent of Canadians aged 15 and older) volunteered for charities, non-profits and community
