NEW YORK (AP)

— The Small Business Administration said it will relocate six of its regional offices in socalled “sanctuary cities,” part of a broader Trump administration effort to crack down on cities that it deems have immigrant-friendly policies.

In a statement Thursday, SBA administrator Kelly Loeffler said offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York City and Seattle will be relocated to “less costly, more accessible locations that better serve the small business community and comply with federal immigration law.”

No details were given about where the offices might be moving to.

There’s no legal definition for sanctuary city policies, but they generally limit cooperation by local law enforcement with federal immigration officers. Courts have repeatedly upheld the legality of sanctuary laws.

The announcement came a day after Republican members of Congress hammered four Democratic mayors Wednesday about their so-called sanctuary city policies, accusing them of endangering Americans and threatening to prosecute local officials.

The SBA was established in 1953 to offer resources to small businesses and helps administer small business and disaster recovery loans. It played a crucial role during the pandemic, helping distribute small business aid. It has at least one district office in each state, and some larger states, like Cali-

fornia and Texas, have several. Offices provide counseling, training, and other resources that provide support for small business owners.

Separately, the Loeffler said SBA loans won’t be eligible to businesses that have owners “in whole or in part” who aren’t U.S. citizens. The SBA said in an email re-

sponse to a query that it would make more details about that policy known “in coming days.”

The SBA doesn’t give out direct loans, except when they’re related to disasters, but it works with lenders to distribute loans to small businesses. The loans typically have better rates than traditional loans.

RIVERSIDE ROADHOUSE

LORENA BENIQUEZ/Sun-Gazette Correspondent

Open yearround and seven days a week, Riverside Roadhouse sits at the center of Riverside Campground, 125 S. Main St., Montgomery. In addition to farm-to-table cuisine, the restaurant also offers live entertainment, and patio dining during warmer weather. Chef Winston Blick has created a menu with a southern flair that prides itself on sourcing local ingredients, including the chicken and beef that is smoked on-site.

Riverside Roadhouse ready for spring

Riverside Roadhouse in Montgomery is ramping up for warmer temperatures, when they open up their pato for dining and their outdoor stage for live music.

Located at 125 S. Main Street, Riverside Roadhouse is the cultural center of the Riverside Campground that sits alongside the Susquehanna River. The Gabe Stillman Band and Clyde Frog will be just two of the featured bands this spring/summer season.

“When we bring in these live bands, it is a show. We open up all the bars outside and when you get here, there will be 90 campers with a band in the center,” said Devin O’Rourke, who is co-owner of the restaurant with his wife, Tina O’Rourke.

Then there is the food. Chef Winston Blick creates American cuisine with

locally sourced meat. His work won him national acclaim, when he was featured twice on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”

“All our beef is raised only five miles from here. It has a southern flair, with waffles and chicken. We smoke chicken, meat and fish,” said Devin. “The level of the food we provide - you just don’t expect that at a campground.”

While the Roadhouse has had visitors from all 50 states, Devin said some locals have yet to discover the restaurant.

“The majority of our business is from people out of the area because a lot of people still don’t know we exist,” Devin admits.

The restaurant is open seven days a week and 12 months of the year. For more information and daily specials, visit their Facebook page. For the live music schedule, visit their campground website at riverside-campground.com.

CNY DRONE SERVICES

Beat spongy moth infestation with drone-delivered remedy

Living in north central Pennsylvania, you may know that spongy months — formerly called gypsy moths — show up en masse starting in the spring and remove the leaves from trees and other plants.

“They literally swarm,” said Rick Jordan, operations manager of CNY Drone Services. “You’ll have huge masses all over the trees. It’s estimated to be about a million caterpillars per acre during an outbreak.”

All plant life is at risk from this infestation, but the creatures primarily feed on leafy trees, he said.

“They will eventually attack all the pine trees,” Jordan said. “They’ll drop down and start eating all the shrubs and things like that, and when they start getting hungry enough, they can actually drop down and start eating your grass, too. So it gets pretty bad. During a very bad outbreak, there’s so many of them that you can literally hear them chewing on the leaves.”

Additionally, their waste dropping sounds like it’s raining, he said.

“They poop so much that it will actually leave a coating on people’s yards, their driveways, all over their houses, their patios, their pools, and it’s just literally covered in a film of poop,” Jordan said.

Fortunately, you can protect your trees and property with a specialized insecticide, delivered by drone from CNY Drone Services to nsure a targeted, thorough treatment without harming your land or family.

“It’s safe for organic use, like on organically grown fruits or vegetables,” Jordan said. “You can use this and still maintain your organic growth, basically. It’s extremely safe for pets, wildlife, even humans. It will only target or only have an effect on the gypsy moths, on that family of caterpillars.”

The Williamsport Apartments

Insecticides are the only way to manage a spongy moth infestation, as other deterrents are temporary — meaning when the moths are done with the neighbor’s trees, they’ll come back to yours, Jordan said.

“It’s virtually impossible to actually kill all of the caterpillars in an area in order to stop the outbreak, so it’s a case of managing the impact of them,” he said. Drone delivery offers better coverage than other methods because it gives an even covering, especially on residential plots that would benefit from aerial application but are too small to use delivery by airplane or helicopter, he said. Drone delivery is also beneficial because it can reach the underside of trees to get to the caterpillars that are feeding on lower leaves.

“We’re also saturating the entire habitat of the caterpillars, so there’s essentially no safe place for them to be chewing on leaves,” Jordan said.

Because the chemical in the insecticide has limited availability, don’t delay scheduling an appointment.

“Our insecticide is only produced once a year, and it has a shelf life, so it’s not like we can just stockpile this stuff and then use it next year,” Jordan said.

To help with both the cost and effectiveness of treatment, you can work with neighbors to schedule treatment together so as to treat a larger area and minimize cost per household.

“It essentially comes down to, save your trees,” Jordan said. “The cost of our treatment versus the cost of hiring a company to come do a tree removal because your tree died, it’s a drop in the well. Most of these trees are irreplaceable, why leave it up to chance?
