Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic proud of caring staff

Dr. Amy Phillips’ love for animals came from growing up on a farm, which led to her vocation today as a veterinarian and co-owner of Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic, 279 Route 220, Muncy. In addition to caring for animals’ medical needs, Phillips is also tasked with leading a staff of 70 people.
“In this stage of my career, I am focused on training my younger doctors. I really enjoy mentoring,” said Amy. Keeping up to date on new surgeries and therapies is a primary goal for the team.
“We are more than just a general practitioner,” said Josh Phillips, Amy’s husband and co-owner of the veterinary practice.
Amy added, “We do orthopedic surgeries and laser therapy on arthritis and sports injuries. We also do wound management therapy.”
Wolf Run’s patients include cats, dogs, small mammals (i.e. hamsters) and an occasional exotic
animal. Recently, Phillips spayed a skunk, which is an unusual surgery for her.
“It was a thrill. One thing that sets our doctors apart is that we are all life-long learners,“ said the veterinarian. Wolf Run is dedicated to its patients providing care six days a week along with an on-call
service for its current patients. To alleviate pet anxiety during vet visits, the clinic has separate waiting and exam for cats and dogs.
In addition to medical services, there are 70 boarding kennels for cats and dogs. For dog owners, webcams allow them to watch their pets during boarding.

Fischer
Insurance carries on family legacy

“We promise instant service to each other and our clients,” said Brian Fischer, about his family’s dedication to their business, Fischer Insurance.
Located at 1735 E. Third St. in Williamsport, the company has seen three generations of Fischers offer auto, home, renters and life insurance policies, since its founding in 1966.
“I get to continue a legacy that my grandfather started and my father built,” said Brian.
Raymond J. Fischer, Brian’s grandfather, founded the company, with his first office occupying his back porch. Then in 1983, Raymond’s son, Jerry Fischer, joined the insurance company and now serves as president. Brothers Brian and Kyle Fischer are the newest generation to join the family business.
Today, Fischer Insurance is the largest locally owned and operated independent insurance agency representing Erie Insurance in Lycoming County.
According to the company, Erie has always been dedicated to steady pricing and continues to be competitive in the
marketplace for pricing and coverage. In addition to Fischer Insurance, the company expanded in 2003, founding the Fischer Financial Group, which focuses on group health, Medicare and financial products.
Fischer’s customer service and attention to detail has won the compa-
ny accolades by winning the Sun-Gazette’s Reader’s Choice Award for best insurance agency eight years in a row.
“We like to put our clients in a better position than we found them,” said Brian.

SUN-GAZETTE File Photos M+M Paving & Excavating has been in business since 1970, founded by Edgar Miller, shown at right. Miller operates the business with his son, Eddie. At left, Eddie Miller moves a truck at the Lycoming Creek company.
M+M Paving expects to serve for many years to come
When Edgar Miller was in high school, his first paving job was done with a pick, shovel and half rake.
That was over 50 years ago, and Miller, founder of M+M Paving and Excavating, continues the tradition of excellence today, but with far larger tools and equipment at his disposal.
The family-run business at 2715 McCoy Ave. has a busy spring and summer ahead.
One can’t miss the familiar orange and black lettering on the equipment along with the Biblical reference of II Corinthians 4 and 5, in which the Apostle Paul describes being unable to do anything without the power of Jesus Christ.
“I take no credit,” Miller said of his successful business, giving the glory to God.
The paving and excavating business seeks employees with varied backgrounds, from skilled laborers to novices with good work ethics. Miller says he’d rather have a “newbie” who wants to learn than a big shot who thinks he knows it all.
“We teach them,” he said.
Of course, Miller has kept key personnel for decades — operators, drivers and sweep up employees. For 2025, he anticipates steady growth and continued need for the niche in this business. The challenge will be to see if the prices of materials will drop a bit lower, he added. A new triaxle truck for example
was $198,000 last spring and goes for closer to $300,000 now. Thankfully, much of M+M’s equipment is up to date.
“It’s a blessing,” Miller said of the new and likenew machinery, property
and service truck. Miller expects the business will celebrate its 100th anniversary and beyond.

Service 1st FCU marks 50th anniversary
For Service 1st Federal Credit Union, 2024 was a year to remember, filled with expansion, excitement and evolution. In many ways, it was the perfect pathway to 2025 and the credit union’s 50th year of being “friends you can bank on.”
The credit union welcomed long-time member and vice chairperson of their board Tracy Shirk as he began his term as chairperson. And, they honored Barbara Criswell, founding member of Geisinger Employees Federal Credit Union, now Service 1st Federal Credit Union, as she retired from their board of directors after serving as a volunteer in numerous and impactful roles for nearly 40 years.
The year moved swiftly towards their October grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Muncy office, located at 200 Muncy Creek Blvd.
Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) were introduced at Service 1st‘s Corporate Center and Muncy locations. ITMs merge the convenience of ATMs with the personalized service members are accustomed to from the Service 1st team. They provide both self-service options and real-time access to live Member Service Representatives via video.
The Williamsport Sun-Gazette honored Service 1st with the first place award in the following categories: Best Company to Work for and Best Bank. For more information, visit service1.org or call Service 1st at 800-562-6049.
