SUMMER 2016 One-third of 2016 Scholarship Recipients First in their Family to Attend College With over $2.6 million in funds allocated to more than 1,000 students since the awards began in 1991, 2016 marks the 26th year The Summit Foundation has awarded scholarships to outstanding local high school graduates. This spring, 58 scholarships totaling just over $200,000 were awarded, with one-third of these recipients the first in their family to attend college. The highly competitive selection process selects the top students based on academic excellence, financial need, community service and leadership. “We know college is expensive, and The Summit Foundation is pleased to assist these hardworking students and their families in pursuing their dreams of a college education,” said Kelly Renoux, The Summit Foundation Trustee and Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee. The Summit Foundation provides over half of the total college scholarships awarded in Summit County. In addition, more than 70 community scholarship funds also recognize the students.

Earlier this year, The Summit Foundation mechanized a standard scholarship application and selection process for all of the community scholarship funds. Various entities in the community entrust The Summit Foundation to administer their scholarship funds. These groups include Summit County Government, Copper Mountain Resort, Summit County Rotary Club and the Moniker Foundation. This year, The Summit Foundation distributed over $65,000 from 15 scholarship funds established by generous individuals and organizations.
