Christian Academy's (SCA) International Student Program (ISP) is the premier international program in the Midwest with a comprehensive program to support International Students in reaching their academic, language, and personal goals. The ISP at SCA is an honors program with three core values: a teachable heart, strong character, and servant leadership.
SCA is located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. The Midwest is known for its friendly people and Lee’s Summit is a safe and welcoming community.
SCA is a college-preparatory school and offers 83 dual college credit hours and three AP courses. When a student begins in 8th or 9th grade, they can be on track to take college/honor classes beginning their 9th or 10th grade year and graduate with a completed freshman year of college.
SCA has an experienced college advisor to assist International Students in their college application process. Students utilize Scoir, a premier college preparation and application program, may take ACT Prep class, and will go on a college visit, complete with a personalized workshop for International Students.

All International students take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) class. English proficiency progress is assessed from the iTEP Slate test administered in the fall and spring. Individual skill objectives are established in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The EAP instructor offers language instruction, classroom assignment support, and helps students prepare for the ACT/SAT and TOEFL tests. Cultural adaptation assistance is also provided and students have the opportunity to learn about other cultures and encourage one another in their American experiences. American student cadets are also involved in the class, providing cultural connection and academic support. The EAP class is included in tuition and fees.
Each International Student is matched with an American Buddy who is their first friend. They will connect before the student arrives and then meet at the New Student Orientation Weekend. Buddies participate in events, teambuilding activities, the monthly after-school NEXUS hang out time, and monthly lunch together. These events are all designed to build friendships, answer questions, and support the International Student in their journey.

Chinese, Spanish, and French speaking students also have the opportunity to be Cadet Language Teachers in our Mandarin, Spanish or French class, respectively. They provide authentic language, cultural insight and are trained to teach the four language skills. This class is for credit and a grade.
International seniors who have attained proficiency in a second language and demonstrated sociocultural competence have the opportunity to take the exam and fulfill requirements for the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy. This prestigious accomplishment is noted by: a statement on the student’s transcript, special recognition with a sealed certificate, a silver and royal blue cord to wear during graduation, and up to 14 free college credit hours added to the student’s prospective college transcript.
Senior International Students who have demonstrated integrity, self-motivation and an interest or expertise in a particular area are granted internships that count for credit and a grade.
Using our core values as the filter for establishing new activities, SCA strives to have a place to belong for every single student. Students have multiple venues to learn leadership and service, and our advising process regularly helps students familiarize themselves with activities that will supplement their personal life goals and interests.

SCA is committed to an athletic program that not only allows studentathletes to develop and use their God-given abilities, but helps develop them mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and physically. The school belongs to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and is a founding member of the Crossroads Conference.
SCA ISP staff support each International Student, their host families and natural families. Support is available 24/7 to both student and host parents. Host Family Orientation and ongoing support meetings throughout the year provide tools, understanding of the International Student journey and build community.
Students may apply for 8th, 9th, and 10th grades. Since the 11th grade year is a very intensive college preparation year, we would only consider a transfer student or a student with a very high English level and/or previous U.S. experience. The perfect year to begin studies is the 8th or 9th grade year so students can take advantage of dual college credit classes. Students desiring a one year experience may apply. A diploma can be granted if the student meets all SCA graduation requirements.
