Welcome to Summit Summer!

From hands-on camps and engaging classes to a full season of early childhood day camps, there’s something for every age and interest. Open to all children in the Cincinnati area, Summit Summer is the perfect place to learn, explore, and have fun. Discover what’s waiting for you this summer!

The Details

Sign In/Out: Campers must be dropped off and picked up in the carline (at the designated areas) by an authorized adult when they leave each day. If they are not picked up, they will be sent to after-camp care where a late fee will be assessed. This service ends at 5:00 p.m.

Dress: The appropriate dress for most days will be shorts, a T-shirt, tennis shoes and socks. Sandals are discouraged since they may pose a safety hazard in the gym or outside activities.

Snacks: Snacks and water are provided throughout the day. If your child is staying all day, campers will need to bring a packed lunch and a drink.

Health Forms: All participants (including current Summit students) are required to have a current health form on file. Please complete the health information section on the registration site. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify summer camp staff, via email, of any allergies or required medications.

Photographs: We will be taking many photographs of the children throughout the camps to use for future publications. Your summer registration includes a photo release that allows us to do so, unless notified otherwise.

Cancellation and Refunds: The Summit reserves the right to cancel any class or summer day camp. Fees will be refunded if a class or camp week is canceled.

Offers kids a week of fun-filled activities that will leave them smiling, exhausted and ecstatic. Led by well-trained counselors, campers will spend the day playing high-energy sports and games that help them develop teamwork, build total body coordination, learn sportsmanship, improve interpersonal skills and enjoy friendly competition. This camp is run through Laffalot Summer Camps by their staff and communication will come from them.

Unlock your inner detective as you read and write thrilling mystery stories filled with twists and clues. Then bring your tales to life through coding as you animate your characters, scenes and suspenseful surprises.

Come explore art materials and techniques during this weeklong camp. Have you had an artistic idea with no extra class time to make it? This camp is for you! Explore ceramic work, make your own sketch book and explore painting and printmaking. We will move through a variety of art mediums, so come ready to create!

Comic Book Creations

Aviation

Instructors: Megan Druffel & Allison Finkleman, Summit 3rd Grade Teachers

Campers will create their own comic book or graphic novel as they learn how to create characters, script a scene, and draw action panels with narration. Campers will work with local comic book artists and take a behind-the scenes field trip to various comic book shops in the area. Each student will receive a comic book gift pack signed by the writer and artist included in the fee. A camper may wish to take both sessions to work on a longer comic project.

This camp is designed to show campers all aspects of aviation. Visit CVG control tower, hear from experts in the field of aviation weather, aerospace engineering, military pilots as well as learn the skills needed to be a private pilot. Not to mention, you will get hands on experience in our state-of-the art flight simulators. Each student will receive an aviation t-shirt as well.

Movie Making Madness

Grades 4-8

Week(s): June 8-12; July 6-10

Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Campers will brainstorm ideas, scout locations, script, film and edit a video project. Topics can range from comedy to action to adventure. It is up to the imagination. Campers will also be editing, adding special effects, and adding music to their movies. Campers will post their projects online for the world to see. Then, everyone will enjoy a field trip to a movie theater on the last day of the week. The trip is included in the fee. A camper may wish to take both sessions to work on a second movie project while advancing their skills in editing and short film creation.

It’s Cool 2B Kind Service Camp

During this week of service-learning camp, students will take on community service projects that aim to improve the lives of the people and animals in our neighborhoods. Trips will be taken each day throughout our city to locations where service projects will be completed. Campers will not only lend a hand, but this week will also provide opportunities for leadership and personal growth. For those who need service hours, teachers will track and sign forms at the end of the week. We will end the week heading to a movie to celebrate with one another.

Minecraft Camp

In this camp, we turn “screen time” into learning time – while still preserving all the fun! Campers will learn valuable skills for today’s digital world while playing Minecraft. Projects will help develop campers’ problemsolving, teamwork, and planning skills. Along the way, we’ll do a James Webb Space Telescope Challenge, a Moon Base One Build Challenge, and explore the Planet Earth Collection to learn about animals and their habitats.

Unlock a world of adventure without leaving town at Globetrotters Camp, a one-of-a-kind immersive experience where campers travel to a new country each day! Each day, our ‘explorers’ land in a new corner of the globe to discover the vibrant heartbeat of a different culture through hands-on art projects, traditional movement and games, and simple culinary adventures. From Monday’s journey to the land of the Samurai and origami in Japan, to Tuesday’s expedition of writing in hieroglyphics in Egypt, through Wednesday’s weaving inspired by the Inca of Peru, to the rhythmic drumming of Tanzania, and finally, a festive fiesta in Mexico on Friday! Our week will foster global awareness and spark curiosity in every child where their imagination can truly take flight!

Come explore how materials that would normally be disposed of can be reinvented into beautiful works of art. Campers will join Mrs. Carvitti to create masterpieces with materials available only during this week. Save the earth while creating marvelous works of art.

Our Squash Camp for grades 5–9 is a fun, energetic way for players of all skill levels to learn and grow on the court. Campers will build strong fundamentals, improve footwork and strategy, and participate in drills, games, and match play led by experienced coaches. With a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and confidence, athletes will be challenged while having a great time. Whether new to squash or looking to sharpen competitive skills, this camp offers an engaging and supportive environment.

A hands-on camp that allows students to explore photography and graphic design. We will use digital cameras and accessible programs like Canva. Students will learn basic photography techniques, practice designing graphics and have the chance to create content for The Summit’s social media accounts. Bring your excitement and creativity... we’ll provide the rest! Note: since our camp begins at noon, we will provide snacks and drinks for students to enjoy at the beginning of each session.

Students will step into the enchanting world of Hogwarts this summer during The Wizarding World of Harry Potter camp! Designed for 5th through 8th graders, this magical adventure is packed with spellbinding activities that bring the Harry Potter universe to life. Artful Eats: Adventures for Young Cooks

This camp for kids combines a love of food and creativity. The camp will teach children the basics of kitchen safety as well as proper use of tools we can find in a kitchen. Young cooks will learn to read a recipe, prepare their space for cooking and begin cooking delicious recipes. The campers will work in teams through the cooking process to create their own unique dishes and other food-related creations. Important Note: We ask that campers do not have any food allergies, as we are not able to accommodate allergies at this time.

Through engaging activities, students will develop essential EF skills like organization, problemsolving, time management, and working memory. Each day offers new and exciting challenges, including highinterest and high-engaging games to boost EF skills, tackling logic puzzles, and racing through organizational relays. Highlights include our thrilling EF Escape Room and a Baking Day, where kids break down recipes, plan steps, and manage time—all while having fun in the kitchen. It’s Christmas in July! Step out of the summer heat and into a bustling, high-energy holiday workshop designed specifically for the energy and imagination of middle schoolers. This week-long camp transforms the classroom into a high-energy holiday workshop where the spirit of the season meets summer excitement! Throughout the week, campers will immerse themselves in a variety of hands-on seasonal crafts and dynamic team-based challenges that encourage critical thinking and artistic expression. Key highlights include a logic-based “Holiday Escape Room” where teams must solve festive puzzles to save Christmas, and a competitive “Gingerbread House” architectural build that tests both engineering skills and sweet creativity.

Summit Strong: Building a Resiliency Toolbox

One of the strongest predictors of success in school and life is your resiliency to challenges that arise. Join us each morning for a camp designed to build mental, emotional, and physical resiliency in each student. Using the latest research-backed methods, each student will learn skills and habits to proactively increase their capacity to take on challenges and move from reactive to responsive when dealing with their own nervous systems. From meditation techniques to psychological frameworks and physical exercises, you will improve your life and mental health. Breakfast will be provided, and the morning ice plunges are mandatory!

Broadway Bound Theatre Camp

Calling all musical theatre fans! Come spend a week singing, dancing, and acting to some of your favorite tunes. Throughout this week, students will have the opportunity to learn musical theatre songs, complete with choreography and blocking, along with some theatre games and ensemble-building activities. The week will culminate in a showcase performance where students will take the stage in Kyte Theatre to tell a story through song and dance!

In this camp, we get creative with video games! Campers will learn valuable skills for today’s digital world while playing Roblox. Projects will help develop campers’ problem-solving, patience, and planning skills. Along the way we’ll create our own tower defense game using some of the same skills and thought processes that programmers use!

Join us for an inspiring week of creative writing! Grab your pencil and paper as we explore a diverse range of writing forms, including personal narratives, letter, silly stories, poetry, and more. Through engaging activities, mentor texts, and step-by-step guidance, we will use our imaginations to craft stories. Come ready to create, collaborate, and discover the JOY of writing!

Summit Country Day Boys’ Middle School Basketball Elite Camp

Come and experience the culture and the coaching staff of the State Semifinalist Summit Country Day Boys’ Basketball Program. Coach Kevin Johnson (state champion with Summit in 2012 and guard for the UC Bearcats from 2013-2017) and his coaching staff who have played and coached at the highest levels will provide a premier training environemnt helping to bridge the gap between middle school excellence and high school varsity intensity. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective players to showcase their skills and learn from a premier coaching staff while hopefully beginning their journey to becoming a Silver Knight.

Physics Teacher and Professional Chess Coach

Grades 1-8

Chess is a hobby that develops critical thinking, focus, and visual-spatial skills, all while being incredibly fun! Students of any age and ability will gain or refine the rules, strategies, tactics, and skills necessary to play chess recreationally or competitively. Students will finish the week by playing in a friendly tournament and able to pursue a lifelong hobby of enjoying and competing in chess!

HSPT Prep

Open to all students in the Greater Cincinnati area entering grades 6, 7, and 8. It’s a great way to join with old friends and make new friends through the bond of making music! At the end of the week, July 24, the students play a concert for their family and friends.

This summer, let your child explore the exciting world of coding! At this interactive camp, students will learn basic programming skills in a fun environment.

Week: July 20-24

Grades 6-8

Cost: $250

This will not be just a week of “band class”. Not only will students spend time playing fun, quality band music, they will have the opportunity to play in small ensembles and also learn to conduct- some even conduct a number on the final concert! Students will improve their rhythm playing in bucket ensembles, learn music theory, and spend time watching music videos of great wind and percussion players such as Allison Balsom, Jasmine Choi, Anthony McGill, The US Marine Band, and many more. Join us for a week of great music- you’ll have a BAND BLAST!

Time: 12:30-3 p.m.

Every November, the HSPT is given to thousands of Grade 8 students applying for admission into area Catholic high schools. Th July 27, 29, 31, August 3, 5, 7 the exam affects the admission process and scholarship opportunities for some schools. This preparation course will focus on testtaking strategies and content area instruction. Students will have some work to prepare in between the scheduled class times.

Exploratarium Camp

Time: 9 a.m. to noon

Cost: $400

Week: July 20-24

Grades 1-8

Students are invited to join Mrs. Newton in Summit’s maker space, the Exploratarium. This camp is designed to spark creativity through hands-on exploration and project-based learning. We will work with 3D printing, laser cutting, hand tools, and plenty of creative materials to make amazing things!

Time: 9 a.m. to noon

Cost: $300
