Historically Important Poohsticks Bridge from Ashdown Forest Sells at Summers Place Auctions and Stays in the UK
The iconic bridge, forever associated with A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh books and E.H. Shepard's illustrations, sold in a sealed bid auction at Summers Place Auctions to a bidder from Sussex, England. The sealed bid auction closed at 4pm on Wednesday, 6th October and the successful bidder was identified on Thursday, 7th October. The bridge carried an estimate of £40,000 - 60,000 and achieved £131,625 (including buyer's premium and VAT). It attracted bids from all over the world and most of them were over the top estimate. The new owner is Lord De La Warr, who owns Buckhurst Park estate in Withyham, East Sussex. Part of the estate is the '500 Acre Wood', which A. A. Milne renamed and made famous as the "Hundred Aker Wood". Milne lived with his family nearby at Cotchford Farm, Hartfield. Lord De La Warr said: "I am thrilled to have been able to
