OUR HISTORY Summer Discovery is rooted in family. In 1966, Mike and Judy Musiker sold Camp Keewanee in Parksville, NY, and ran their first of many Musiker Student Tours programs.

Fast forward to the 1980s when Bob and Jimmy Musiker joined the family business, and the first Summer Discovery pre-college program began at UCLA in 1986. Two years later, Summer Discovery at Cambridge University in England was introduced, and the rest is history! Under the leadership of Bob and Jimmy Musiker, we’ve forged unique university partnerships with some of the most prestigious universities across the globe.

CURRICULUM OPTIONS No two students are alike, and no two Summer Discovery experiences are identical. Each student can choose their curriculum or pathway to customize their academic experience. That’s the Summer Discovery difference. With help from our specialists, we guide students in mapping their educational future.

Many students come back year after year, building on their academic experiences, exploring new campuses and cities across the globe.

ACADEMIES AND COURSES

Summer Discovery students choose one of four tracks: Academies, Enrichment Courses, College Credit, or Research.

1. Academies

Students typically select one academy as part of their program. Academies meet in the morning and afternoon and focus on one academic area. These are intensive courses that immerse students in their topic of choice.

Our families choose us because we provide unmatched academic opportunities; they recommend us time and time again because of our commitment to our core values.

Pick at least two courses to take during your program.

Courses meet once a day, allowing you to take a different course in the morning and in the afternoon.

3. College Credit

We offer students the opportunity to take rigorous courses for college credit. Get a head start on your college transcript.

4. Research

Participate in interdisciplinary, hands-on, universitylevel research. These are competitive and intensive opportunities for qualified students.

Today, our exceptionally talented team members bring their diverse backgrounds together to solve the world’s problems, move mountains, and run the best pre-college programs for high school and middle school students.

We have a variety of on-campus staff to support our students including Directors, Campus Specialists, Residence Counselors, Wellness Coordinators, and more.

Our on-campus team staff is committed to student wellbeing, safety, academic growth, and fun!

Our Staff Campus Specialists Our Campus Specialists are a special breed of selfless, multi-tasking humans who are the engineers behind our on-campus operations.

They work tirelessly to make sure students feel supported and engaged from enrollment to arrival.

Resident Counselors (RC)

Students are assigned a designated RC that oversees about ten students. Our RCs live alongside students in the residence halls and help students adjust to campus life and the residential experience.

They also wear capes and have superpowers - or at least we like to think so.

Our Resident Counselors are highly qualified to provide students with a supportive on-campus experience. All Summer Discovery RCs are college-educated, 21 or older, and go through highly rigorous screenings and background checks.

We’re a small team of committed individuals. We believe that each of us can make a difference in the lives of families. For fun, we asked our full-time staff members to tell us their “alternative” titles since we all wear many hats.

We offer commuter options at the following campuses: UCLA UCLA Anderson School of Management University of Michigan Georgetown University Hult International Business School, London Yale-NUS College, Singapore University of Pennsylvania University of Pennsylvania Carey School of Law Live at home or with a designated guardian and commute to campus each day. Attend our mandatory commuter student orientation at the start of the program. Students are required to attend classes each day, and attendance is taken in each class.

Resident counselors are available to supervise and support students throughout the program. Some activities are open to commuter students to connect them with other students and foster community.

Commuter options are also available for our middle school programs at UCLA and Georgetown.
