Located in Hangzhou, China, this is masterplan for a collection of convention center with a subway station, public space, and retail component supporting it. Responsible for executing landscape design; outdoor exhibition area, outdoor auditorium, waterfront park, bridge and entrance plaza. Performed modeling site context and interior/exterior component, developing site plan, floor plans, sections and elevations.

Site Plan

The concept of the project is to bring more public space and create a strong relationship with the community. The bridge is running alongside the buildings, connecting the whole site and outdoor public areas.

The site is located near the Hangzhou International Airport, and the concept of the design is “Hangzhou Wings.” If you see the building from the South, it looks like it has enormous, elegant wings to fly.

Architecture Expansion and Renovation

Located in Denver, Colorado, this is an expansion and renovation project that will extend the existing Colorado Convention Center. The expansion includes a new 80,000sf multi-function room and outdoor rooftop terrace. Responsible for 3D modeling interior components, especially for the new pre-function area and the existing lobby renovation. For the SD and DD phase of the project, I performed executing the reflected ceiling plans and interior component drawings while assisting in coordination with Structural, MEP, AV consultants, developing interior elevations and sectional details.

As one of the country’s leading convention and exhibition venues, The Colorado Convention Center wishes to significantly increase their offering of meeting, banquet and light exhibition space through a proposed expansion – creating an unrivalled dynamic, flexible and destination-oriented venue. In addition to this new flexible venue will be a dramatic roof terrace, with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, which can be marketed as a stand-alone venue or as an outdoor extension of the Multi-Function space and its associated Prefunction space. Taken together, the three venues - Multi-Function, Prefunction and Outdoor Terraceare designed to immerse guests in the magnificent Denver and Colorado experience. These new venues and the majority of their associated support spaces are located on the rooftop and served by two independent routes of public access such that the expansion program can operate independently and simultaneously from the rest of the building.

Responsible for drafting reflected ceiling plans for SD, DD, CD document set, modeling the ceiling component like slopped ceiling plane, acoustic ceiling baffles, lightings. Assisted in coordination with consultants regarding the layout of operable partition track, access panels, air diffusers, hang points, speakers, sprinklers and signages, etc.

Following the existing roof blade slope, renovated the existing roof into a new interior ceiling for the pre-function area. To open up more space above the ballroom entrance, part of the existing ceiling planes were demolished and turned the revealed existing truss structure into a bulkhead component.

Interior design concept of the project is “Denverness.” Inspired by Rocky Mountain, the multi-function room is flexible to be subdivided into up to 19 rooms with operable partition walls. The acoustic ceiling baffles are laid out randomly but designed to work for all the subdivision scenarios.

The Marassi Hub hotel is a 72 key hotel positioned near the eastern boundary of the development, with views overlooking the Marina. The 4 story building positions service and employee areas as well as the public reception, lobby and dining areas on the ground level, with 3 stories of guestrooms above and a rooftop dining area. Performed site analysis, planning, design, 3D modeling, rendering for CD package and SD document set - every part of the project - working under a lead designer (team of 2 people)

The contemporary design emphasizes bold horizontal, planar forms in an irregular massing composition with an integration of landscape and louvered screen elements creating a complimentary relationship with neighboring residential buildings. The “L” shaped configuration meets the programmatic requirements and positions well to take advantage of the site characteristics.

SAVANNAH CONVENTION CENTER

Located in Savannah, Colorado, this is an expansion and renovation project that will double the size of the existing center. The expansion includes a new 100,000sf exhibit space(In Two Divisions), 42,000sf Ballroom, 23,000sf meeting rooms(14Total), and parking garage. Performed 3D modeling and drafting in Revit for SD, DD, CD document set and addendums; area diagram, floor plans, egress plans, fire compartments&travel distance diagram, door schedule, door details, interior component, and drawing index. Assisted in coordination with structural, MEP, Acoustic/AV, signage, door hardware, code, fire protection, and LEED consultants.

Reflections of the Savannah River. The materials and colors in this project are similar to the reflections on the Savannah River as you look across from the Convention Center to Savannah’s Bay Street. These elements maintain the connectivity to the Convention Center to the city of Savannah and surrounding areas. The interior finishes will be elements that will be repeated throughout the project and providing connectivity for the design and reference to Savannah.

New registration lobbies serving the expanded exhibition space will be located adjacent to the entry plazas. It will have prefunction space along the north and east side. As you enter the east entrance the attendees will experience an atrium like space that provides an opportunity for four large murals depicting iconic Savannah images.

Located Bethlehm, 280 key tower with 80,000 sf of meeting and banquet facilities serving as an expansion to the mixed-use, four-star integrated resort casino property. The expansion will create a new common arrival experience for guests, incorporating the existing tower into what will function as a 550-key hotel. The new construction includes F&B venues, an 8,000 sf spa, fitness and other guest amenities. Performed drafting exterior component in Revit for DD and assisted in exterior component detail for CD document set.

The hotel is positioned within the extraordinary site of the Bethlehem Steel Mill adjacent to the Lehigh River, with historic buildings and industrial infrastructure dating to its time as the nation’s second largest steel producer, and largest shipbuilder. The building’s design and interiors draw from that context in reference and in spirit of the ingenuity and artistry of what was produced there.

Located in Queens, this multi-story commercial tower includes a Community Center with a variety of meeting and event spaces for nearby residents. Additional programming includes a 120-key hotel featuring an elevated sky lobby with the Manhattan city view to the west and water view to the east, 70 apartment units, on-street retail, and studio space in the podium levels. Developed plan and section drawings in the concept design phase. Assisted in facade design discussion with client, performed the building performance analysis, using a building energy simulation Revit plug-in.

Dynamic, fabric or sail-like façade has resulted in a complex geometry for the cladding material. Once above the approximately 80’ height of the adjacent buildings, there will be clear views to the Manhattan skyline. Envision a grandly scaled sky garden with uninterrupted views in all directions.

As recommended best practice by the AIA Architect’s Guide to Building Performance, a parametric study was done for different values of the window-to-wall ratio (WWR), along with the use of photovoltaic panels (PV), to compare their combined impact on the project’s energy use intensity (EUI). Using cove.tool’s façade guidance tool, the team swiftly modeled variations of a typical bay with different glass types, shading strategies, and infiltration rates.

Daylighting 300-800 lux desired

The design team advanced from a baseline Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 74 kBTU/sf/yr, to a 40% EUI reduction of 43.98 kBTU/sf/yr, making significant progress towards the 2030 goal of being carbon neutral. The team presented options to the client that ranged from 50 to 60% effective energy savings. By optimizing the facades and using photovoltaic panels, among other strategies, the team was able to achieve a 40% carbon reduction as compared to other buildings of this size and type. Hitting the carbon efficiency target was equivalent to avoiding 27 truckloads of ice melted per year.

CLINIC FOR ALL

How can a Clinic in a park Change into a social community? The purpose of the project is to bring more public space back to the clinic and re-create a strong relationship with the community. Use the clinic to create the bridge over the height difference gap of the park and connect the two neighborhoods together again. This way, Residents of Harlem and Morningside Height can meet and share.

The park has a heavy communal context, but it however divides and separates two distinct NYC neighborhoods- Harlem and Morningside Heights. The park ironically creates a “wall” between the two areas. The proposal is that use the clinic to create the bridge over this wall, to connect the two neighborhoods together again.

There will be three distinct groups of people: the patients, the park users, and visitors from Harlem and Morningside. In the center of the project there will be a large congregation area dedicated for meet-ups of all the users- we see it as a big circle that over lays all the other components of the project. Encompassing the circles will be programs dedicated to clinical functions- these are the private facilities used by patients and doctors. A separate passage, mostly used by park users, will meander and weave through these spaces. These passages will have visual separation to the private areas, so that the park users would experience the space, without disturbing the patients. Lastly, there will be multitude of smaller community areas like playgrounds, courtyards, greenhouse, and cafes which would surround the structure, but would also architecturally be incorporated with the building.

REDRAWING THE BRONX

What if there were bridge-corridor-rooftop student housing? The site is located on the south part of the Bronx. It is surrounded by heavy traffic. On the west of the site, there is a gas station and car wash. On the east of the site, there is a community college that is connected with the student housing by the bridge. The commercial strips and housing with public spaces will drive growth and make the neighborhood a more dynamic place to live and work.

Public Space + the Bronx

The fisrt floor of the every building is lobby and there are community facility like cafe, book store and grocery store. The bridge is running alongside of the 5th floor of the buildings. it connects the whole site and common areas. Public programs of the housing are library, study area, swimming pool and student lounge on the bridge level. There are also two rooftop outdoor space where tenants can gather.
