Neon Light Studio

At the time, Hong Kong was experiencing a golden age of neon signs that first started booming in the 1970s. Nathan road in Tsim Sha Tsui and lockhart road in Wan Chai were particularly well known for the colourful neon signs suspended above the streets.

Main entry

This is the main flow of pedestrian. Consider reorienting the entrance in this direction to attract people into the building, and extend the green space in front into the Building.

Market

Centering around the Market, we provide connections to various spaces.

The sun will shine directly, a canopy should be provided

The space can be utilized, we can integrate their features into our architecture. The existing greenery space

Natural airflow

Considering the direction of the wind, the existing USW HALL has poor ventilation. We can improve it by utilizing natural airflow.

Re-organise the space

The original school dormitory can be transformed into a DIY Workshop/Studio.

Noise control

To prevent noise from disturbing the student dormitory, we can add a barrier

Access

This location can connect to the existing school dormitory/ historic building, consider making a connecting structure/ entry

Floodsystem

Create an eco-garden zone, including a pond, to guide excess rainwater away. Utilizing a rainwater system

Secondary entry

This is a secondary pedestrian pathway, consider providing an access point for easier entry into the building.

Summer :

There are no tall buildings near the site to block shade therefore need to provide the cover which will be trying to reduce the sun's entry to avoid overheating, leads to turning on a larger air conditioner to cool down.

In winter wind flow: Strong Westerly is blowing, might add some equipment for windshields that will keep the indoor warming.

Winter Sun Peth

Winter: Use the heat of the sun to save energy consumption. Because the site is too close to the sea; the westerly is blowing form the sea, Keeping sunshine in to the building if it to reduce humidity

The west side of SITE is mainly some factories, and the east side is residential

In summer wind flow : there will be a cooling breeze is blowing from the North- easterly it would be quite suitable to gather /pull in to indoor.

The design aims to create a space for architectural students in the campus. As UNSW architectural students do not have enough space for their studying. It is necessary that design a space with good facilities and study environment for students to engage campus’s life and study.

- A space can exhibit their work to show up for those who is interesting in architecture design

- A series of architectural spaces that meet architectural students need

- Provide more student housing space for those who need to overnight at campus and for those who is not from Sydney.
