PARTNERS NEWS RSPB Snape Wetland Project
Aaron Howe, RSPB Senior Sites Manager At Snape, the RSPB has embarked on a project to create wetland habitat. This has been undertaken by purchasing two areas of lowland grassland at Abbey Farm and Botany Marshes. These two sites combine into part of the Snape nature reserve. We have entered into partnership with the Environment Agency with the aim of creating an 82ha wetland ecosystem that includes extensive freshwater reedbeds and lowland wet grassland. This project is essential to provide compensatory habitat for some of the many coastal reedbeds at risk from saltwater flooding due to sea-level rise, threatening the future of bitterns, marsh harriers, water voles and much more besides.
