Septic systems: don’t be misinformed about codes/system management Carroll County’s Environmental Health Department sets the facts straight on requirements/recommendations by Sam Gentry How much do you know about your septic system? How long does a typical system last? What are the proper procedures for maintenance? How do you determine if it is functioning properly? What do you do if it needs repairing, replacing, or upgrading? And how do you determine if it does? Seth Woodrow, deputy district environmental health director, and Jake Holloway, Carroll County Environmental Health manager, recently offered their knowledge and

Holloway further clarified that it is not a requirement that the tank be pumped out every three to five years, but rather a See SEPTIC SYSTEM FACTS page 4
