Perfect Provo Luxury Escape The Somerset at Grace Bay

The Somerset

was desperate to escape the polar vortex last January and needed somewhere I could simply sun, soak and recharge awhile in total luxury. The Somerset at Grace Bay turned out to be the postcard perfect place to do so. And the fact that it’s located on one of the world’s most perfect beaches turned out to be simply icing on the escape-plan cake. The Somerset is an upscale intimate collection of suites and villas (only 53 rooms in all). My oceanfront suite was incredibly large but appointed in such a warm way that I felt very much at home. The staff was also very welcoming; they seem to be genuinely delighted that you’re there, but I doubt they were as delighted as I was. Especially when my biggest problem was having to choose from the reverse-current lap pool with piped in underwater music, the calm infinity pool on the sea, or the warm, clear sea itself, where beach service to clamshell sunshade lounges was waiting. I decided to try them all. It was the same problem with activities. I

couldn’t choose between sea kayaking, hobie cat sailing, or stand-up paddle boarding, so I did them all in one day! I also did sunset yoga on the beach and went snorkeling nearby. All my meals except for the weekly gala beach BBQ were taken at lovely poolside LunaSea restaurant. At breakfast it was the perfect perch to plan a day’s pleasures, and at night it was a tikitorch lighted oasis. It took little time to really recharge there and it was certainly a tough place to leave. But I do have a great reason to return as during my stay they were constructing a brand new dining spot called Pavilion, featuring both Asian and South American inspired cuisine, a raw bar, and Provo’s only lobster tank. There’s also a snazzy new cocktail lounge. They all are now open for business. As if that weren’t enough, they are also planning to add their own spa this year. I can’t wait to return to enjoy all when they do. Visit: SUSAN CAMPBELL
