Seaside revelry

Mambo Beach Blvd complex has surfside zaniness down to a fine art with a diverse collection of haunts from über classy South Beach style lounging to crazy barefoot-in-the-sand bopping to live music and DJs at the beach bars. There are dozens of entertainment venues in this multilevel complex.

Choose from a wide range of vibes there with Hemingway, Wet & Wild, Cabana Beach, Café 40B, Bikinis, and Bollywood Bar & Lounge to name a few. The classy Madero Ocean Club anchors it all with its own pool, chic lounge, trendy bars, upscale restaurant, and private cabanas.

And just up from the beach, you’ll find Mojito’s & Bites, a fun sports bar and party emporium.

Out on Vaersenbaai, Kokomo Beach is most famous for its full moon parties, which draws thousands each month, but now they also do a fun Sunday family day that ends with a lively happy hour and live music. And at Piscadera, Pirate Bay beach club complex can really come to life on weekends as well.

The grand restored old fort has a new life force at night in their courtyard where “drink, dine, and dance” nights include sax with the DJ on Thursdays and Soul Sessions with Axel Pikero on Saturdays on the Rif Fort stage. But there’s usually something going on at Rif Fort all year round including lots of special events.

And the new Punda Thursday Vibes night is celebrated with weekly fireworks over the harbor at 8:15 p.m. !

Pietermaai’s pleasure pockets

The beautifully restored old neighborhood of Pietermaai has become the place to be these days, especially for trendy, hip, and happening dining and nightlife. It draws as many locals as visitors to cool enclaves like the Blue Bird Café, Café De Tijd, and Miles Jazz Café. Also, Mundo Bizarro is not to be missed for their crazy décor and fun, offbeat atmosphere. Some dining spots, like Kome, have their own bar lounges that draw regulars as well.

Then there’s Café Old Dutch, which is all about Dutch expats partying their way. It’s what they call a typical “brown bar” for beer and darts. And many of the lovely Pietermaai boutique resorts have their own rollicking bars like Scuba Lodge and Hotel BijBlauw, both by the water.

If you’re seeking “the beautiful people,” they can always be found, day and night, at the upscale Saint Tropez Oceanclub enjoying VIP bottle service, soaking in the infinity pool, or dancing during hot DJdriven nights. Legendary Blues Bar at Avila Beach Hotel falls within the Pietermaai neighborhood of offerings; its seaside perch for jazz has been drawing crowds for decades, especially Thursday nights.

And just outside of Pietermaai you’ll find Bar 27, which is a very popular haunt for locals.

Brand new and already very popular with locals is The View on a rooftop in the Caracasbaaiweg district. It’s an international high-end bar/lounge with DJs and special events in a luxurious setting.

And of course, it has a great view!

In Zuikertuin, Omundo’s dining room livens up with dancing and music after the dinner hour, as does Grand Café De Heeren, which is also a favorite local hang out for dinner and dancing. And if you’re seeking local beer, then seek out the cool Curaçao Brewing Company at Landhuis Granbeeuw in Santa Rosaweg. It’s the island’s only craft brewery.

Another secret spot well worth traveling to is Karakter’s seaside dining terrace and beach bar out in Coral Estate. They also have a classy new rooftop pool bar called Koraal, ideal for superb signature cocktails and stunning sunsets before the party gets started.

For indoor nighttime entertainment, you can head to massive, modern Sambil Curaçao mall for state-of-the-art cinemas, bowling, and lots of special events like cultural festivals with music and dance.

You’d never know that this calm neighborhood of beautifully restored historic mansions morphs into a party central New Orleans style area at night. But it does!
