DIRECTOR’S NOTE Buono sera, and welcome to RUHS Theatre Arts’ Winter production of In Any Language! We have had a wonderful year so far with a sold-out run of our 2nd annual black box musical, Little Shop of Horrors, featuring the rollout of our new student thespian design team. We are thrilled to welcome back the adjudication team from the California Educational Theatre Association, after a successful first time at the festival last year with Letters to Sala. When choosing our play for this school year, I knew I wanted to challenge our students with a full comedy. In my time thus far at Redondo, we have yet to produce a full comedic play. I dove into many scripts, and found this charming piece that just made me laugh out loud while I was reading! While not very well known, it did star the famous Uta Hagen on Broadway, and was directed by George Abbott. I was drawn to its play on language, over the top comedic situations, and lovingly crazy bunch of eclectic characters. I knew that not only would the Italian mix-ups and mayhems be a blast to perform, and hilarious to watch, but would continue to stretch our actors outside their comfort zones taking on an accent and practically learning a new language! The satire on Italian Cinema is perfectly incorporated to add that extra bit of humor and dynamic characters. And of course, who doesn’t love the classic feel of the Golden Age of Hollywood! It has been so interesting to look into the early 1950s to create the palette of our design. Our students have been working extremely hard to bring this production to life with a set that is 100% student designed and created, as well as student designed lighting and sound. I love getting the chance to expose our students to new genres, styles, and areas of theatre. I couldn’t be more proud to be amongst all of these wonderful and talented performers and technicians. A BIG thank you to the RUHS Theatre Arts Boosters, Bob McDonald, Tina Zarro, Jeannie Lambert, Liza Holmes, Sophia Turcot, Caroline Alley, the Design Team, our wonderful administration and staff at RUHS, and my incredible family and friends for making this all possible with continuous support of our program. Now - sit back, get ready to laugh, and enjoy the show! Melissa Staab Redondo Union High School Theater Arts Director

Theatre Arts Board RUHS TAB is a non-profit, charitable organization which was established to support and benefit the RUHS Theater Department, as well as our students and local communities. It enhances our youths’ appreciation of the performing arts and promotes a bond within our community, other local schools, and theater arts by providing an affordable and “live-performance” venue for neighboring communities. This year, RUHS kicked off the season with its black-box musical, Little Shop of Horrors . The department also consists of a hilarious Comedy Sportz team, student-directed plays, and our upcoming Spring Musical, Into TheWoods, information for which will all be posted on our website. RUHS TAB relies on the generosity of donations to enable students to participate in our productions and to provide professional sets, costumes and high quality music.
