HE star t of the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM) is expected to pave the way for additional capacity to the Mindanao grid to ease up the power supply shortfall on the island.
During its formal launch Thursday, Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla said IMEM is also seen as a pilot test for Mindanao’s eventual transition to the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Mindanao, once adequate power generation is established for the islandregion. It is expected to pool about 200 megawatts of excess power generated by power producers in the Mindanao grid, he said. Petilla said with the presence of the Mindanao spot market, power would no longer be a problem for the province in the near term. power/PAGE 11
