MISAMIS Oriental––The new overseer of the provincial capitol-run Misamis Oriental Telephone System (Misortel) is optimistic that the firm will soon have better services and expanded coverage as soon as the provincial government would approve its budget. Fernando Vincent Dy said they finished last week their budget for the rest of the year and for 2014 as requested by Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano. Dy said they have a lot of work to do to streamline their operations and

He added that of their 88 personnel 49 were approved by the previous board. “I was tasked to reassign employees,” Dy said, adding that the 49 personnel will undergo review especially their civil service eligibility. Misortel’s salaries and wages total some P1.2-million to P1.3-million a year. “We have few bill servers and we have to strengthen our collections and marketing,” Dy said.
“We are looking into mapping new lines and rehabilitation of old lines,” he said. The company’s subscribers total 6,800 in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental. “Through proper marketing, we can increase the number of subscribers,” Dy said. reminded and challenged to do their part. This was the message of MDN editor in Chief Allan Mediante, who with BWM Group of Publications president & CEO Dantge Sudaria, is
spearheading the MEDIA CONNECT for ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION Project. The contin uing program would pursue not only information dissemination but environment
protection awareness among the populace of Mindanao, down to the grassroots level, through year-round seminars and trainings for media, students, community writers, See media, page 3
