HE future of the more than 300 displaced vendors at the Plaza Divisoria here remains bleak despite a resolution passed by the City Council’s Committee on Economic Enterprises to restore its operation.
Lawyer Hilario Raagas, City Administrator, told members of the economic enterprise committee that the City Mayor will definitely reinstall the “Nite Café” but did not say when and where. “The suspension of the

Teachers support abolition of ‘pork’ THE Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) on Friday expressed strong support of the proposed House bill 1535 calling for the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund or “Pork Barrel System.” ACT TEACHERS Partylist Representative Antonio Tinio together with other progressive party-list under the MAKABAYAN Coalition said that the “pork barrel” system has been the source of corruption and political patronage employed by Malacanang. Malacanang used the “pork barrel” to control the legislative bodies in the Upper and Lower House of the Congress, ACT Chairperson Benjamin Valbuena said. “We call on to re-chan-
nel the said fund on basic social services such as education and other social services,” Valbuena said in a press statement furnished the MINDANAO DAILY NEWS. According to Valbuena, there are estimated P 49 billion pesos total pork barrel allocation for all congressmen and senators while the executive branch has a P 22.4 billion Special Purpose Fund, the palace version of pork barrel. “This Pork can fill the needed funds to the proposed salary increase for our public school teachers. Ocean fish ‘Mola’ beaches in CdeO By GERRY GORIT Staff Member
RESIDENTS along the shorelines of Puntod in Barangay Macabalan in Cagayan de Oro City woke up over a furor Friday morning about a strange giant fish that beached at the shoreline there. The giant ocean fish was spotted at dawn under a wooden house built on stilts but it died a few hours later. The fish was actually a Sunfish, scientific name Mola mola. Teodoro Bacolod Jr., of the Bureau of Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 10, said it was the fifth sighting of a Sunfish along the Macajalar Bay. The species are also called the common sunfish, as there are three species of sunfish that live in the ocean - the slender mola (Ranzania laevis), sharp-tailed mola (Masterus lanceolutus) and southern ocean sunfish (Mola ramsayi). Bacolod said that only two of the five fishes that ran aground along the Macajalar Bay shorelines returned to the sea alive. The others fish | page 11
