Adopt plans to prevent COVID spread as rainy months set in By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor
MISAMIS Oriental--Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano on Sunday urged local officials to adopt measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus as the rainy months set in. Emano expressed the apprehension knowing that the “viruses” reportedly spread and multiply faster during the “colder season.” “The rainy months ahead should forewarn us to be anxious of the possible spread of the coronavirus in areas susceptible to calamities where evacuees closely huddle each other in evacuation centers,” Emano
said. He said that there are flood prone areas in Misamis Oriental where residents are evacuated to higher grounds during heavy rains. The situation is also exacerbated by the continuous arrival of locally stranded individuals (LSI) and the See ADOPT, page 11

BOC-10 opens first district-wide auction house in PH By MARK FRANCISCO Correspondent
THE Bureau of Customs district in Northern Mindanao has initiated establishing its own auction house, the first collection district to do so nationwide. BOC-10 collector John Simon said opening the auction house is meant to effect transparency in all transactions of the bureau and to fasttrack the disposal of smuggled items for the
government to earn. “Now in this time of pandemic, we all need to help inject into the coffers of the government,” Simon said even as he announced that the district has steadily surpassed its collection for the past three months. In August alone, BOC10 was able to surpass its P2.06-billion target by more than P600 million. This already encompasses the collection at Min-
danao Container Terminal and the ports of Cagayan de Oro, Ozamiz and Iligan. The inaugurated auction house along Cugman highway in Cagayan de Oro City will house all items confiscated by the BOC in Region 10. By law, all seized items will either be destroyed or disposed. Items to be immediately destroyed are prohibited cargo such as illegal drugs
or imported cigarettes that were misdeclared or processed food. Items to be disposed are also classified into two: for re-exportation and for auction. Examples for re-exportation include wastes that were shipped by other countries. For the past two years, BOC-10 has re-exported some of these wastes to their origin such as South Korea, See OPENS, page 11
