THE country’s response to disasters like super typhoon Yolanda and its strategies for disaster preparedness have not been linked to ecosystem degradation and grassroots participation, an official said Wednesday. Commissioner Naderev Saño of the National Climate Change

Commission said climate change has given “an opportunity to pursue our country’s future”. For example, the damage caused by Yolanda gave an opportunity to restore an area based on a new model, Saño told participants to a workshop on climate change adaptation organized by the Ecosystem Alliance Philippines. But the response had focused

only on housing and other services and did not factor in the environment or ecosystem, he added. Aside from the absence of an ecosystem-based approach, grassroots participation in planning had also been neglected, he said. Ecological deficit Saño said the Philippines has experienced an “ecological deficit since the 1960s.” He cited the country’s declining

fish stocks, coral degradation and continuing loss of forest cover. “Less than one percent of our corals are in excellent condition, and less than three percent of primary forests are left,” he said. Saño attributed the degradation of corals to the rise in the earth’s temperature, which, he said, has increased by 0.85 degrees Celsius from the 1860s to 2012. He said that in the coming

decades global temperature is seen to rise by 2-6 degrees Celsius if the current rates of carbon emissions continue. “We have breached 400 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In the last 800,000 years we had not reached 300 ppm. It can reach 900 ppm by 2100 if industrialization not addressed,” he said. See plans, page A7

MISAMIS Oriental––Transparency and efficiency enabled the provincial government to resurrect from the death bed of bankruptcy, provincial Governor Yevgency Vincente Emano said on Thursday. Emano said that he inherited a “financially dead” provincial administration with cans of worms in its financial coffers and skeletons in the closets. “With an outstanding debt of P 1.2 billion that includes the non-remittance of GSIS, Pag-IBIG, and PhilHealth premiums of provincial workers, one could only heave a sigh of despair,” he said.

Emano, however, said that it was his indomitable ideals to serve the people of the province that drew him the strength to carry on. “I grew up in a tradition that as a public servant, I should be the one reaching out and bringing the services of the government to our people,” he said. He said that it was the habit of conducting a meeting with the department heads where issues and concerns are discussed that encouraged transparency in the affairs of the provincial government. For instance, the “People’s Day” which occur e v e r y Mon d ay a l l ow s people from all walks of life, regardless of political color, to come and see the governor for discussion of all kinds of problems, he said. The province also made every Wednesday a Local Government Unit (LGU) Day, where town official

Sokol helicopter crashes in Marawi; all aboard safe CAGAYAN de Oro City––A Philippine Air Force Sokol combat utility helicopter carrying the commander of the 4th Infantry Division crashed as it took off from Camp Ranao, headquarters of the Army 103rd Infantry Brigade, in Marawi City this afternoon, August 7, a military report said. Maj. Gen. Ricardo Visaya, commanding general of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division and several of his staff survived the crash but a pilot of the Polish-made Sokol helicopter suffered a leg injury, a military spokesperson said.

The ill-fated helicopter, which crashed into a row of empty houses as it took off from Camp Ranao at about 2:26 p.m. Thursday, was a back-up helicopter to the party of Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas and Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, Maj. Christian Uy, Public Information Officer of the 4th Infantry Division said. Student died of mishap in Bugo CAGAYAN de Oro City––A 10-wheeler truck ran over a student who was rushing to school about 11:00 o’clock Thursday morning in the busy street of Bugo, Cagayan De Oro City, the police said Thursday. The victim, identified as Alex Pangilinan, a student of the Cagayan De Oro City College (COC), has just “gassed up” his motorbike in a station when he blindly crossed the intersection toward the speeding cargo truck, the police investigators said. The police said that Pangilinan’s body was mangled and decapitated as the full weight of the 10-wheeler truck ran his body and his motorbike, a Silver Black color with plate number 6493-KP. “It was gruesome,” an unidentified witness later told the police who responded since the police station was just a stone throw away from the accident. The victim was probably rushing to his afternoon classes in the city’s downtown district, about 10 kilometers west of the accident site in Bugo, the last coastal village in the city’s east coast. Police said that the victim’s body is now at the funeral home in Tagolo-an, the first municipal town of Misamis Oriental, adjacent to the village of Bugo. As of 1:00 p.m., the police are still trying to locate the parents or guardians of the victim who live in the interior of Bugo village, the police said. CDO ranked second Most Competitive City By MIKE BANOS, EDITOR-AT-LARGE

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The City of Golden Friendship has been ranked as the second most competitive city in the Philippines after Makati City, the country’s premier financial district by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC). Launched Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the Regional Competitiveness Summit, the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2014 measures competitiveness at the local government level, using 28 indicators grouped into three equally-weighted pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. Scores on each pillar were combined to form the overall score used to rank cities and municipalities. Cagayan de Oro also ranked second in infrastructure, fifth in government efficiency, and ninth in economic dynamism. Makati topped the

overall rankings with an overall score of 53.24, followed by Cagayan de Oro (49.36), Naga City (49.07), Davao (47.17) and Marikina City (45.46). Rounding out the top 10 in overall competitiveness were the cities of Iloilo, Cebu, Manila, Valenzuela and Paranaque. The CMCI 2014 featured a record number of 136 cities and 399 municipalities, up from 122 cities and 163 municipalities in the pilot run in 2013, which was topped by Cagayan de Oro. “The award brings more inspiration and courage to pursue to their logical conclusions the reform programs that have been initiated, particularly on government efficiency, infrastructure and investment attractiveness,” Mayor Oscar S. Moreno said upon receiving the citation at the PICC. “Cagayan de Oro’s enhanced competitiveness not only benefits our

people and the region, but also Mindanao!,” Mayor Moreno said. For municipalities, Daet in Camarines Norte was ranked the most competitive overall, followed by General Trias in Cavite and Kalibo, Aklan. Awards were also given to the top three cities and municipalities per category. While the National Capital Region swept the Economic Dynamism category with the cities of Parañaque, Makati, and Manila taking the top spots, the Government Efficiency category was dominated by cities outside Metro Manila. The top cities for Government Efficiency were Naga, Camarines Sur; Iloilo, Iloilo, and Angeles, Pampanga. For the Infrastructure category, the top cities were Davao, Davao del Sur; Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental; and Marikina, Metro Manila. Among the municipalities, the most com-

petitive for Economic Dynamism were Tanza, Cavite; General Trias, Cavite; and San Pedro, Laguna, all from Region IV-A, CALABARZON. The most competitive municipalities for Government Efficiency were Kalibo, Aklan; Tupi, South Cotabato; and San Mateo, Isabela. Finally, for Infrastructure, the most competitive municipalities were Daet, Camarines Norte; Rodriguez, Rizal; and Paniqui, Tarlac. The results highlight the importance of being competitive in several factors, especially those which are closely examined by potential investors. It should be noted that the top three cities and municipalities for overall competitiveness also received, at least, one award in a category. In addition to pursuing across-the-board competitiveness, NCC Private Sector Co-Chairman Guillermo M. Luz

advised stakeholders at the Regional Competitiveness Summit to work together in building cities and municipalities, which are affordable, accessible, socially-acceptable, environmentally-friendly, economically-viable, and climate-resilient. The CMCI was designed to encourage local governments to regularly track data and, eventually, benchmark performance against other cities in the ASEAN to better manage their regions. The CMCI was developed by the NCC through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the INVEST Project of USAID. City and municipality data used in the CMCI were voluntarily submitted by the RCCs. Economic Dynamism scores were based on data on the size and growth of the local economy as measured by business registrations, capital, revenues, and occupancy

permits; capacity to generate employment; cost of living; cost of doing business; financial deepening; productivity; and presence of business and professional organizations. Government Efficiency scores were based on data on transparency scores, economic governance scores, local taxes and revenues, local competitionrelated awards, business registration efficiency, investment promotion, compliance to national directives, security, health, and education. Infrastructure scores were based on data on existing road network, distance from city/ municipality center to major ports, Department of Tourism-accredited accommodations, health infrastructure, education infrastructure, basic utilities, infrastructure investments, ICT connection, ATMs, and public transportation. AVAO CITY – A indigenous people’s group leader said they fear for their lives as government troops amass in their far-flung communities in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte.

Datu Wilfredo Suminggil said he is “worried” that soldiers amassing in their community in Sitio Kapatagan, Barangay Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte “would soon resort

to torture and killings like what we have experienced before.” Suminggil said the first group of soldier from the Philippine Army arrived last June 19 and stayed in

their village. “There were 40 of them and they immediately spoke to me. They asked how is life and how are the NPAs (New People’s Army),” said Suminggil. “I said life is okay and the NPAs pass by.” Suminggil said he “honestly answered questions by the soldiers.” Suminggil told the soldiers that “the NPAs advised us to go back to the old ways of communal farming so we could easily recover from the effects of Typhoon Pablo.”

Suminggil said Typhoon Pablo in 2012 uprooted most of their crops but have easily stood on their own. “We only got three kilos of rice from the government and we are so far away from the town center to ask for the help of well-meaning groups,” he said. Suminggil said to reach their village, one has to travel four hours in a motorcycle which costs P1,600 ($37). “It has been our practice before but we used communal farming occasionally, not regularly. Suminggil said, “they said the first time we talked that they were hunting rebels.” Suminggil said he “soldiers from the 64th Infantry Battalion (Philippine Army) in the 90’s were abusive back then.” “Sergeant Balabala and Lieutenant Donor were reponsible for beating my nephew and others in our Sitio. One resident was hit with a patikan (rattan shoot) so hard in the back

Meanwhile, Lito Sampag, spokesperson of indigenous people’s group Karadyawan where Suminggil is also a member, said they “will leave their homes to protest if the military will not cease from using the civilians as ‘shields’, encamping in civilian populace and other public structures like schools and churches.” Sampag accuse the Army’s 60th and 68th IB as responsible for the killing Wilfredo Estrebillo, a motorcycle driver, last June 4 also in Barangay Mabantao in the same town. TANDAG City––With the aim of curbing the proliferation of illegal coal mining and trading activities in the province, the Department of Energy (DOE) has conducted an Information, Education and Communication Campaign on the Department Circular No. DC 2012-05-006 or “Guidelines on the Accreditation of Coal Traders and Registration of Coal End Users” on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Bislig City. The activity was participated in by 11 local coal mining stakeholders, some government line agencies and representatives from the city government of Bislig. DOE Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada urged the traders and the coal end-users to follow the rules and regulations stated in the department circular. Monsada emphasized that the agency’s primarily intention is to improve the quality of life of the Filipinos, “by formulating and implementing policies and programs to ensure sustainable, stable, secure, sufficient, and accessible energy.” She stressed that engaging in illegal mining spawns several problems including the use of unsafe methods of mining and the denudation of protected forest areas, among others.

campaign originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) at Rutgers University in 1991. Participants chose the dates, November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women, and December 10, International Human Rights Day, in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that such violence is a human rights violation. “In the Philippines, the government has expanded it in 2006 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 1172

to include up to December 12, which marks the adoption of the United Nation Convention Against Transnational Crime, thus making it an 18-Day Campaign,” recalled Pintor. BUTUAN CITY -- The first ever Lawig Men’s Open Volleyball tournament went underway on August 2, 2014 at Barangay Baan Riverside basketball court here participated in by teams from Butuan City and Agusan del Norte towns. Guantero City Councilor Member, Committee on Transportation EXPLANATORY NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR For quite sometime now, this representation received feedback from some constituents, especially from the motorcab franchise holders of Oroquieta City, as well as the commuters alike that there are motorcab units catering passengers with Green Plate Numbers. These are private in status. It has been learned that these units are already issued of franchise by the City Government. As verified from the Franchising Division-Office of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, these units were given franchise as they are the franchise holders and that their applications for Change of Units were approved. Second instance is that, the new applicant whose franchise is approved is having the LTO Certification of Registration and Official Reciept in private status. Revisiting the Ordinance governing franchising, required are the valid LTO papers to support the application for new or change of unit, as the case maybe. It has been observed that some of these franchisees after issued of franchise, would no longer bother to have their motorcycle units be registered as “For-Hire” at the Land Transportation Office, thus, there is a need to put an end of this problem. Buggoc Bayanihan Challenge launched

AMBOANGA CITY - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the City Government is spearheading a bayanihan build challenge for Sama de Laut families in sitio Buggoc, Barangay Kasanyangan.

The program, launched Wednesday, August 6, at the City Hall conference room with the commitment and pledges of various civic organizations, private institutions and other stakeholders, targets the construction of 200 single detached houses on stilts. Primarily, the project hopes to decongest the R.T. Lim Boulevard and to provide culturally sensitive and disaster-

resilient houses to target beneficiaries at the shortest time possible using the Bayanihan concept, a Filipino tradition which refers to the spirit of communal unity and cooperation. Likewise it hopes to engage non-governmental players who can provide manual, moral and financial support in the construction of the temporary shelters. Under the program, the IOM will provide

the housing materials for the construction of the 200 housing units on stilts in Buggoc. The build partners will assist by providing the labor component estimated at P10,000 per unit which will be equally divided to 5 laborers who will work for 7 days at a daily cost of P280. In recognition of the contributions made, the name of partners organizations/ individuals shall be indicated in the units they will help build and will be acknowledged in appropriate forums. ILIGAN CIT Y — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has projected to increase the level of awareness of consumers on their rights and responsibilities from 50% to 80% by 2016, in line with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011–2016. With this mandate, DTI - Lanao del Norte Provincial Office has launched the Awareness-R aising Campaign for Consumer Empowerment (ARCCE) through the conduct of Consumer Education (Con Ed) Seminar in the barangays and the installation of signages emphasizing the eight consumer rights and the five consumer responsibilities in strategic locations. ARCCE aims to increase the level of awareness on consumerism especially in rural areas by augmenting their knowledge and consciousness on the Consumer Act of the Philippines and other fair trade laws, said Ruel B. Economy under PNoy: Rising prices eroding low incomes, says IBON Second of three parts THE independent thinktank IBON Foundation said the country’s food prices started increasing more rapidly in the latter part of 2013 and then in the first semester of 2014 which further reduced the value of already low and falling real incomes. “These pushed monthly inflation rates to their highest in the last 2 1/2 years especially with how food consumption can account for 40-50% of total expenditure of the country’s vast low-income households,” it said.

The rising prices have to be measured for their impact given the actual levels of poor families’ incomes. Rough estimates on the results of the latest 2012 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) show that the poorest 70% of Filipinos––or some 66 million Filipinos––try to live off incomes of around just P38, P51, P59, P71, P84, P100 and P125 per day (corresponding to the lowest seven income deciles). “These were computed by See Incomes, page B3

that its revenue in the first half of this year grew by 7.2 percent from Php 122.1 billion in last year’s same period. The company’s net income, on the other hand, declined by 3.1 percent to Php 12.3 billion in JanuaryJune this year against last

year’s Php 12.7 billion. SMIC’s property business SM Prime Holdings Inc. accounted for 40.5 percent of the net income with a total of Php 9.8 billion, which went up by 11.7 percent from Php 8.8 billion in 2013’s first half. The strong revenues

the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2014 measures competitiveness at the local government level, using 28 indicators grouped into three equally-weighted pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. Scores on each pillar were combined to form the overall score used to rank cities and municipalities. Cagayan de Oro also ranked second in infrastructure, fifth in government efficiency, and ninth in economic dynamism.

Makati topped the overall rankings with an overall score of 53.24, followed by Cagayan de Oro (49.36), Naga City (49.07), Davao (47.17) and Marikina City (45.46). Rounding out the top 10 in overall competitiveness were the cities of Iloilo, Cebu, Manila, Valenzuela and Paranaque. The CMCI 2014 featured a record number of 136 cities and 399 municipalities, up from 122 cities and 163 municipalities in the pilot run in 2013, which was topped by Cagayan de Oro. “The award brings more inspiration and courage to pursue to their logical

For municipalities, Daet in Camarines Norte was ranked the most competitive overall, followed by General Trias in Cavite and Kalibo, Aklan. Awards were also given to the top three cities and municipalities per category.

While the National Capital Region swept the Economic Dynamism category with the cities of Parañaque, Makati, and Manila taking the top spots, the Government Efficiency category was dominated by cities outside Metro Manila. The top cities for Government Efficiency were Naga, Camarines Sur; Iloilo, Iloilo, and Angeles, Pampanga. For the Infrastructure categor y, the top cities were Davao, Davao del Sur; Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental; and Marikina, Metro Manila. Among the municipalities, the most competitive for Economic Dynamism were Tanza, Cavite; Gen-

eral Trias, Cavite; and San Pedro, Laguna, all from Region IV-A, CALABARZON. The most competitive municipalities for Government Efficiency were Kalibo, Aklan; Tupi, South Cotabato; and San Mateo, Isabela. Finally, for Infrastructure, the most competitive municipalities were Daet, Camarines Norte; Rodriguez, Rizal; and Paniqui, Tarlac. The results highlight the importance of being competitive in several factors, especially those which are closely examined by potential investors. It should be noted that the top three cities and municipalities for overall competitiveness also received, at least, one award in a category. In addition to pursuing across-the-board competitiveness, NCC Private Sector Co-Chairman Guillermo M. Luz advised stakeholders at the Regional Competitiveness Summit to work together in building cities and municipalities, which are affordable, accessible, socially-acceptable, environmentally-friendly, economically-viable, and climate-resilient. The CMCI was designed to encourage local governments to regularly track data and, eventually, benchmark performance against other cities in the ASEAN to better manage their regions. The CMCI was devel-

oped by the NCC through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the INVEST Project of USAID. City and municipality data used in the CMCI were voluntarily submitted by the RCCs. Economic Dynamism scores were based on data on the size and growth of the local economy as measured by business registrations, capital, revenues, and occupancy permits; capacity to generate employment; cost of living; cost of doing business; financial deepening; productivity; and presence of business and professional organizations. Government Efficiency scores were based on data on transparency scores, economic governance scores, local taxes and revenues, local competition-related awards, business registration efficiency, investment promotion, compliance to national directives, security, health, and education. Infrastructure scores were based on data on existing road network, distance f r o m c i t y / mu n i c i p a l ity center to major ports, Department of Tourismaccredited accommodations, health infrastructure, education infrastructure, basic utilities, infrastructure investments, ICT connection, ATMs, and public transportation. WHEN the House of Representatives years back was about to deliberate during plenary the recommendation of the Justice committee to impeach then Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr., no less than the justices themselves enjoined the representatives of the people from doing what the Constitution mandates them to do. This is being recalled to prove beyond any iota of doubt that the Supreme Court justices can be brazen also in protecting one of its own as in this case. This incident just goes to show that the justices are not immune to pressure thus their unprecedented move of preventing a co-equal branch from performing its task under the Constitution. The Davide case being a

House of Representatives during the time of then Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. I was personally present in the plenary hall of the Lower House when De Venecia ruled that they can’t go against the order of the court if only to avoid a constitutional crisis. Those opposed to the position of the House speaker claimed that impeachment proceedings is a duty granted by the Constitution to the House and thus not even the Supreme Court can prevent it from performing that duty. But those who did not want a collision with the Supreme Court argued that their act can still be subjected to a court review to see if their action is still within the bounds of the Constitution. Of course, De Venecia prevailed over

those who wanted to go against the Supreme Court. My personal position on the matter then was that the Supreme Court went beyond its constitutional powers and duty because the beneficiary of their order was no less than their chief justice at that time. How can they issue an order against a co-equal branch to protect one of its own? Of course, my personal position on the matter is of no moment to the equation of things. Now the Supreme Court is in the limelight again for its seeming intransigence toward the ongoing House investigation in aid of legislation of the multi-million pesos Judiciary Development Fund or JDF. This is the fund the court is able to collect from litigants as

Any of these could be the final straw in a small business’ demise, but none of them are the source of the problem. No, the source of failure for most businesses is that they are relying on one individual to fill too many roles––roles that are often mutually exclusive. As individuals, we all have unique temperaments and talents and successful businesses use those temperaments and talents to their best advantage. But there are three temperamental aptitudes that are absolutely necessary to the success of every business.

Big picture visionary leadership. Think of your business like a NASCAR race team. Your product or service is the car. You need someone in the pit; you need a driver, but most especially,

you need a crew chief who can see the big picture of the race and give guidance from that standpoint. Oftentimes, they are the entrepreneurs or business owners themselves who fill this role. They are the persons who see what the business can become and keep it moving toward that vision. 2. Sales and Marketing Know-how. To return to our NASCAR analogy, the person on your team with the sales and marketing know-how is similar to the race car driver. It is where the “rubber meets the road”. They take the product out for a drive and show it off. They guide it through its competition with similar products. And just like a savvy race car driver who knows when to cut in front of another and when to slow down and how fast to rev

This person is analogous to the race car’s pit crew. This is the person who knows the ins and outs of both the product and the various parts of the world it has to interact with. WHILE writing this piece, the Kadayawan Festival in Davao is just around the corner. Since every year, the celebration offers an incredible array of activities full of fun and joy: dance group competitions, street parties, and yes, a food trip at the strip. For sure, Kadayawan is also everything about indulgence in the best cuisines that Davao has to offer. Kadayawan is indeed always a feast of sorts. Living in Davao City for good for many years now, I observed the Kadayawan Festival becoming more and more attractive and enjoyable. I spoke with many expatriates, who kept on praising this festival and its incredible atmosphere. The friendliness and the warm hospitality of Davao people have been mentioned and experienced many times. What a sign for this wonderful city.

Duterte’s Kadayawan message from 2009: “With global warming and climate change a very real phenomenon in our lives now, we need to look to our indigenous people for wisdom and guidance as they have always been

respected toward their relationship with the earth!” Yes, all of us need to do more more in protecting and promoting our environment. Mindanao Daily B5 BUSINESS NEWS How not to make a state-of-whatever report CAGAYAN de Oro City–– There’s been a spate of local executives delivering a State-of-the-ProvinceCity-Municipality (-even Barangay) addresses a la PNoy’s SONA. It would be so admirable if these so-called status-ofaffairs accounts were really bona fide reports to the people, delivered in the proper spirit and perspective. But they’re not really reports. They’re vanity monologues detailing the failings of the previous administration while highlighting the virtues and achievements of the incumbent one. Bragging, boasting, crowing about how great the report-giver is and how much greater are his achievements, what’s bad for solidarity in the community is the overdose of condemnatory blaming of the previous officeholder, ascribing every imaginable wrong to him or her, just like PNoy did in the case of Gloria during his first SONA . But in the case of our local government executives, their report sounds like an out-of-season campaign speech. At least PNoy can no longer run for re-election. In any case, such was the “State of the Province Address” the other day of Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano, son of defeated Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano—who’s jobless now but, in a bid to stay at center stage, got his son to appoint him consultant at the capitol. ***** Conjuring up the pomposity of Dongkoy (no mean demagogue and theatrical speaker himself ), Bambi delivered a “report” consisting mostly of his claims of “achievement” including the petty, the insubstantial, and the downright partisan. Such “State-of-Whatever” reports reveal more about the speechmaker’s mental condition and character than about the jurisdiction’s social, political, or economic state of affairs. Like a typical trapo’s campaign speech, Bambi’s “report” nitpicked the record of the previous administration, poured venom on its achievements, and belittled its programs. Expressed in language calculated to project him well in advance of the 2016 re-election campaign, the report insulted the intelligence of the people of the province in its presumption that they’re stupid enough to fall for his unseemly outof-season bragging. ***** Poor fellow, Bambi didn’t realize how it projected him as a mean, petty, and inveterate fault-finder, exposing him and his team as powergreedy trapos. What is inexplicable is the fawning sycophancy of vice governor Joey Pelaez who lends his illustrious family

name to the Emano Mafia family. Is he so desperate for recognition? In any case, there they were, looking like a ragtag bunch of insurgents desperate to social recognition. It’s pathetic how trapos can strike a self-righteous pose and wallow in the illusion of unsurpassed achievement without being self-conscious about it as they grandstand before an audience of sycophants who readily applaud on cue. Like father, like son! And so a bystander can only grin and bear it as he listens to a litany of “achievements.” With all the millions at the disposal of these trapos, of course there are bound to be some achievement! No big deal there. ***** Perhaps someone should produce a manual on how to prepare a State-of-WhateverReport: what to highlight so it’s informative and instructive; what to avoid or omit so it’s not off-putting or boring; and, not least, what to say about the future so it will be a guide or road map as well as a message to inspire and move people to unite behind government and work in solidarity. Status reports should not make people feel they are being treated to the usual self-serving campaign speech of a power-greedy trapo! It should be inspirational, unifying, and uplifting; not obnoxious, petty, or condemnatory. Bambi’s report, like his father’s croaking monologues on radio, made as if he’s God’s gift to the people of Misamis Oriental, the greatest, and not likely to be surpassed in achievement—not especially by someone who looks like an Oscar Moreno! Mariwasa, GMA Kapuso turnover newly-built classrooms in Yolanda-hit Guiuan town

Guiuan, Eastern Samar – Mariwasa, the country’s leading tile maker, once again joins GMA Foundation Kapuso in the inauguration of several high school and elementary school classrooms in Brgy. Sulangan of the said typhoon-hit town. A total of five (5) rehabilitated classrooms and two (2) new classrooms were turned over in Sulangan National High School and six (6) restored classroom plus (2) new classrooms were also turned over in Sulangan Central

Elementary School, all of which have a toilet inside the classroom where Mariwasa tiles were installed. The ceremony was attended by GMA Kapuso Foundation, INC. (GMAKF) executive vice president and chief operating officer Ms. Carmela “Mel” Tiangco, together with several school and municipality officials and representatives of Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc. (MSC). In November last year, supertyphoon

Yolanda (international name Haiyan) devastated vast parts of the Visayas area which left tens of thousands of people severely affected. Guiuan, a coastal town situated at the southern tip of Samar island, bore the brunt of the typhoon as it was the place where Yolanda first made landfall. The storm completely levelled the whole town damaging houses and buildings and leaving more than a hundred people dead or missing. At the same month, MSC partnered

with GMAKF and donated P1,000,000.00 worth of relief goods and in-kind products for rehabilitation use to help fellow Filipinos alleviate their suffering caused by the disaster.
