Human fetus found while Catholics mark popes’ saintdom By CHRIS V.PANGANIBAN Regional Editor-Caraga
SAN Francisco, Agusan del Sur––A human fetus was discovered inside the comfort room of the local branch of a well-known food chain in the country on Friday at a time when the canonization rites started for the sainthood of two pro-life popes. Father Artemio Jusayan, parish priest of Sacred Heart of Jesus church here, expressed alarm over the incident, saying the incident is a clear example of moral decadence in the community that there is
already a need for continuing education of parents to their children about the value of life. “Parents should be now more open with their children , to do away with authoritarian rule and teach them not to engage in premarital sex,” he said as he underscored the rising cases of teenage pregnancy and abortion have been mainly influenced by TV and the Internet. According to police report, the fetus of the unborn child was discovered by a female service crew of Jollibee at the toilet bowl of the comfort room while
she was doing the regular sanitation chore. The incident took place when Catholics all over the world watched on TV the start of the grand celebration at the St. Peter’s Square in Rome in preparation for the canonization of the late
Blessed John XXIII and Blessed John Paul II into their sainthood. Glaze Mangadlao, 19, who saw the fetus at around 4 pm immediately reported the incident to the local police that sent a team of scene of crime operation
who confirmed that it was indeed an aborted fetus. Police Officer 3 Renlyn Arroza, a member of SOCO team, said it is highly probable that the mother forcibly aborted the unborn child while inside the comfort room
without being noticed by the management. A CCTV camera inside the restaurant was being considered by investigators that would identify the mother but not during the time when she entered the comfort room.

Butuan has zero malaria case for the last three years
BUTUAN City––Butuan City has zero malaria case for the last three years and in the first quarter of 2014, says a top health regional official. Dr. Casmerlita D. Yu, DOH Region 13 Regional Malaria Coordinator, said in a press forum on Monday that based on their recent data, from 2011 until the first quarter of 2014, there was not a single case of malaria in Butuan City. According to Yu, in 2007, there were five cases of malaria recorded; 25 in 2008; 24 in 2009 and five cases in 2010. Yu said that if the trend would go on, then Butuan City can be declared as “malaria-free” after the next two years, as it is a chartered city. However, there are still 22 barangays considered as endemic of malaria by the
Health department, and DOH-13 is focusing their monitoring and surveillance on these villages. The activities for the prevention of malaria for the city include distribution of bed nets where 28,445 have already been given away, indoor residual spraying every six months, entomological survey, mass blood survey, border operation, early detection of malaria cases through the use of the Rapid Diagnostic Test and continous advocacy. Attending today’s press forum along with Dr. Yu were Dr. Joyce T. Hidalgo, City Health Officer, Marisol Tuso of Pilipinas Shell, and Councilor Virgilio Nery, Chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee On Health. (PNA)
