Customs official in Davao resigns DAVAO City––Even in acting capacity as Bureau of Customs-Davao district collector for less than a month, lawyer Edward James Dy Buco resigned following the call of Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon for all port and sub-port district collectors to resign from their respec-
tive posts.
Dy Buco, who used to be the deputy customs collector for operations, has been Davao-port’s officerin-charge just this month following the early retirement of lawyer Martiniano Bangcoy, who has still two years left before his mandatory retirement. Bangcoy cited health reasons for leaving the agency
following a heart bypass operation. His resignation stemmed from the mass resignation call of Biazon to pave way for the major revamp of the beleaguered government agency which had been heavily-castigated by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III during his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 22 over un-
abated graft and corruption practices among its officials and cohorts. Sources said that the new customs district collector will be Raymond Ventura, who is currently assigned with the BOC central office. Ventura is set to assume on August 1, 2013. CAGAYAN de Oro City–– For the first time after the Friday bombing in Cagayan de Oro, family and friends of those who perished in the blast gathered on Tuesday morning at the site in Limketkai to pray for justice. Fr. Neil Limbaco of the San Jose de Mindanao Seminary officiated a mass for the participants and urged them to continue praying for the victims. Fr. Limbaco said the incident was the “handiwork of the devil.” Some of the family members spoke on behalf of the
group saying they are “sad, angry, hurt and ashamed” that the bombing happened in their city. They said that they will ensure that those who died will not die in vain as they pray for justice and remain vigilant. They also called on the local government to make a “swift but full investigation” so that they would know how the incident happened.
