WHO cites Davao’s anti-smoking campaign DAVAO City--The world is now looking at Davao City as the world’s show case of putting the “endgame strategy” against smoking , as official from the Department of Health (DOH) said here. DOH Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag said that Davao City is attracting international attention because the city has the biggest potential to show the world of putting an endgame strategy against smoking. Endgame is a situation where smoking or tobacco is totally eradicated. Davao City is a hall-of-famer of the Red Orchid Award. The award recognizes cities, municipalities, government offices and health facilities that are strictly enforcing tobacco control measures. It first implemented its comprehensive anti-smoking ordinance in 2002 and gained fame for its vigorous implementation 11 years after

AVAO City--Police authorities on Monday filed arson and murder charges against two persons who torched two houses in Purok Trinity, Sitio Tule, Barangay Tambobong, Baguio District here and subsequently hacked a 12-year-old boy who had witnessed the incident. Accused before the City Prosecution Office (CPO) were Armel Intal alias Aming, and Danilo Tormis Jr., alias Bakang, both residents of Sitio Mangas-as, Barangay Tambobong, Baguio District. Police records showed that at around 4:50 p.m. last June 19, both Intal and Tormis were seen setting on fire the houses owned by Michael Lucenario. The incident was witnessed by Lucenario’s 12-year-old nephew, Christian Felizardo Lucenario. Upon noticing the boy, Intal approached him and hacked him with a bolo in the body. The boy was only discovered at around 6:00 a.m. the next day when Lucenario was checking his burned house. slay | page 11
