Use of gensets as ancillary service mulled By GRACE BEBER, Reporter
A MID t he perceived waning interest shown by electric cooperatives in the government-initiated stopgap measure of acquiring modular generators, the Department of Energy (DOE) has offered the operation of the generating sets and make power distributors an
ancillary service provider of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to ensure adequate supply. DOE Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said the gensets to be leased or sold from the National Electrification Administration could be treated as ancillary services.
“We are studying right now to use the gensets as ancillary [service provider] in two years time. [The co-ops] can return the gensets to us or if they don’t return them, they can sell it to NGCP,” Petilla said. Ancillary services refer to those necessary to support gensets/PAGE 23
