Briefly Airport shutdown THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Tuesday suspended all commercial operations at Zamboanga International Airport amid heavy rains that flooded its runway. In a statement, CAAP said it issued a NOTAM (notice to airman) from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm yesterday after continuous rain caused widespread flooding in the city. CAAP said it will issue an advisory by 7:00 am on Wednesday if another NOTAM will be issued for that day. “Passengers affected by said flight cancellations are advised to contact their respective airlines for flight schedules,” CAAP said.

AFEGUARDS must be put in place to prevent generator set owners from colluding with one another when the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM) is implemented next month, a ranking official of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) told BusinessWeek Mindanao.

AT l e a s t 10 e l e c t r i c cooperatives in Mindanao are in danger of being cut off from the grid for their rising liabilities ranging from alleged inefficiencies i n it s operat ions a nd management and nonpayment of accounts due, Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla said. This after the government has intensified power supply disconnections of ailing cooperatives. Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco) and Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative III (Casureco III) were the first to be stricken off the grid by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) due to unpaid bills. Petilla hinted that next on the chopping block is the Northern Samar
Electric Cooperative Inc. (Norsamelco). THE City Council in Cagayan de Oro City has urged its committee on power and energy to study the cost of developing solar energy as the city’s major source of electricity. City Councilor Teodolo Lao urged the city council to consider the adoption of solar energy to light up the city’s street in order to reduce cost of electric consumption. Lao said that 75 percent of the total consumption of the city went to street lights. “It is time that the city
government to find ways for the conversion of street lights into energy power drives.
