Briefly Mayoral bet slain JUST two days before today’s election, a mayoral bet in Lantapan, Bukidnon was shot dead inside his house Saturday, the regional police office said. Police identified the victim as Armando Ceballos, a resident of Barangay Balila in Lantapan. Reprts said around 10 bonnet-wearing armed men entered Ceballos’ residence and shot him several times shortly after midnight. Police said the suspects also took away the victim’s 45 caliber pistol and about P80,000 in cash.

BOUT 11.99 million registered voters in Mindanao are expected to cast their votes in today’s synchronized local and national elections. The C ommission on Elections (Comelec) said polling precincts will open at exactly 7 a.m. up to 5 p.m., two hours shorter than the previous mid-term polls.

Firearms surrendered A TOWN mayor in one of the election hot spots in Lanao Del Norte surrendered his firearms to the police regional command here, a police official said Saturday. Supt. Surki Sereñas, police regional spokesman, said that Vice Mayor Mangondaya Tago, of Pantar, Lanao Del Norte, voluntarily surrendered a carbine rifle with two magazines and a .40 caliber pistol with 2 loaded clips here Wednesday. Sereñas said that Tago’s turning over of his firearms was a symbolic gesture as a signatory to the “peace covenant” among local candidates in Lanao Del Norte spearheaded by the regional police command.
