Camiguin charter day MAMBAJAO, Camiguin Camiguin kicked-off its foundation anniversary with weeklong festivities to drum the celebration observed every 7th day of January. Mural painting, arc and landmark design contests, distribution of slippers and other social services package highlight the first two days of the “Araw ng Camiguin” celebration. Converting trash to treasure or “Trashure” is among the activities lined up for high school students. They will be visiting island’s sanitary landfill and discover innovative ways to help recycle trashes.

Labor office OROQUIETA City -Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (Mis. Occ. PFO) took a big leap for the realization of its long-sought dream as the construction of its building has officially started on 02 December 2016 at the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) Grounds in Upper Langcangan, Oroquieta City. “The day signified a historic moment as it marked the breakthrough for DOLE-X, embracing further its commitment to quality service to meet the increasing demands and expectations of the public,” said DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Head Leonardo G. Rodrigo. The groundbreaking ceremony last 4 March 2016 was graced by the former DOLE Undersecretary Rebecca C. Chato and Assistant Secretary Maria Gloria A. Tango and other regional officials headed by RD Raymundo Agravante, City and Provincial Officials, NGO’s among others.

DOE awards new contracts for hydro, geothermal dev’ts

AVAO City -The Board of Investments (BoI) approved 10 projects in the Davao Region during the first 10 months of 2016, with capital investments totaling P7.684 billion, led by San Miguel Foods, Inc.’s P2.24 billion feed mill.

The report released by the BoI indicated that the 10-month figure for 2016 w as ne arly doubl e t he P4.709 billion in investments approved for the full year 2015. San Miguel Foods’ feed mill is located in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, where sister firm San Miguel Brewery, Inc. has a plant. Also investing big last year was the Floirendoowned Anflo Management and Investment Corporation (Anflocor) with the P1.88billion expansion of its Davao International Container Terminal, Inc. in Panabo City, Davao del Norte. The expanded modern wharf has a capacity of 6 0 0 , 0 0 0 t w e nt y - f o o t e r equivalent units, which is double its initial capacity. sanmig/PAGE 11

SURIGAO City – Triathlete and environmental lawyer Ingemar “Pinoy Aquaman” Macarine will endure a record-setting 24-kilometer open water swim with a twoway crossing of the Macajalar B ay b et we en Mis am is Oriental and Camiguin Island on Saturday.

Macarine will kick off from Camiguin Island to Balingoan town in Misamis Oriental and back to the volcanic island. He is gunning for his 25th successful open-water swim since he started his openwater swim in December 31, 2013 in Surigao City.

Macarine, who hails from Placer, Surigao del Norte, finished only five open water swims last year which he spent most of the time in practice in preparation for the English Channel swim which he eventually cancelled last August due to bad weather. He normally completes at aquaman/PAGE 11

Property developer to build high-rise condo, BPO tower in Davao City

DEPARTMENT of Energy (DOE) has awarded 10 new areas of development for hydropower and geothermal projects via its open and competitive selection process (OCSP) scheme of contracting. Of the ten, seven hydropower ventures have been bestowed to various developer-firms; while two areas were set for geothermal resource developments. The awarded hydropower renewable energy service cont rac ts (RESCs) had been: Areas 4, 15 and 16 for Binongan-Tineg, Cateel and Cagayan 1N prospects to First Gen Mindanao Hydropower Corporation; Area 7 for Ilog venture to Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corporation (now PHINMA Energy); Areas 13 and 14 for Tubig and Buhid prospects to Vivant Energy Corporation; Area 14 for Bugtong to Clean N Energy Solutions, Inc., and Area 17 for Agus III project to Marano Energy Corporation.
