Flight discounts DAVAO City -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) is ready to grant discount of up to 50 percent of the landing, takeoff and regulatory fees for airlines flying from Davao to the BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asean Growth Area). “The development of secondary hubs for international flights is one of the strategies we are looking at under the National Tourism Development Plan in order to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the reduced fees is one way to attract the airlines,” DOT Assistant Secretary Arturo P. Boncato, Jr. said. Low-cost carrier Tiger Air Philippines is looking at Davao City as a secondary hub for its international flights in its bid to stay away from the congested Manila airport. At present, Tiger Air makes use of the NAIA Terminal 4 and Clark International Airport as hubs for international flights. The airline relaunched its daily Manila-Davao-Manila flight on December 2 and is set to launch a thrice-a-week ClarkDavao Clark flight on December 17, 2013.

DOE readies guideline for backyard RE plant
T
HE Department of Energy (DOE) will release a guidebook on how consumers can avail of solar and other renewable energy installations.
In a st ate me nt , t he DOE said it will launch a book titled “Net Metering Reference Guide: How to avail of solar rooftops and other renewables below 100
kilowatts in the Philippines” on December 10 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Makati City. The book will serve as the standard net metering guide
for consumers who intend to use renewable energy technologies to power up their homes or buildings. “The guidebook serves as the Renewable Energy Act’s provision for net metering, wherein power consumers are encouraged to build their own [renewable energy] system, such as a solar photovoltaic system in their roofs. The
net metering reference guide completes the requirements of the renewable energy policy mechanisms,” the DOE said. Net metering is a billing program whereby electricity produced by home-based renewable energy equipment is used to offset the cost of power sourced from the grid. The DOE and the National
Renewable Energy Board will also promote the net metering guide through a series of information, education, and communication campaigns across the country. At present, the country h a s a t ot a l re n e w a b l e energy installation of 5,521 megawatts in capacity, which the DOE aims to double by 2030.
