HE Brunei DarussalamIndonesiaMalaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) wants to craft an incentive package to attract investors to explore opportunities in the sub-region.
BUTUAN City – To sustain economic gains and continuously elevate the quality of life in the country, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said that the Philippines endeavors to add at least 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy (RE) capacities by 2040. Cusi issued the statement during the recent launch by the DOE and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) of the Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) for the country at the Energy Center at Bonifacio Global City. “RRA is a collaboration among the DOE, IRENA and other renewable energy stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. It is vital in our vision towards attaining 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacities by 2040,” said Cusi.
Cleanergy Park DAVAO City -- This year has seen a record number of Hawksbill Turtles being hatched in Cleanergy Park since it was opened in 2014. This year they have found four nesting sites with about 571 eggs. About 541 hatchlings have been released this year. About 2,300 turtle hatchlings has been released in the park since 2014 this includes the 186 hatchlings released on April 18. Fermin Edillon, community relations manager of the Aboitizowned Davao Light and Power Company says they are securing the nesting sites of these turtles.
Caraga’s palm oil PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur -- Stakeholders of the Palm Oil industry cluster from all over Caraga region have recently gathered together in San Francisco town this province to craft their development direction. Guided by the Philippine Palm Oil Roadmap 2013-2023, the Department of Trade and industry (DTI) Caraga Region with DTI-Agusan del Sur provincial office, organized a localization and planning workshop to determine issues and strategies embodied in the roadmap to meet the needs of the oil palm growers and other players in the regional setting. While presenting the national roadmap, DTI-Caraga Regional Director Brielgo Pagaran acknowledged that there are certain sectors that still have some questions about the industry. He said there is a need to address these concerns for the cluster to be able to unleash the full potential of the palm oil industry.

NO TO FAKE NEWS. The Philippine Press Institute (PPI) and Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) lead campaign to stop fake news. Close to 200 participants from various schools in the province of Batangas attended the second round of the scholastic press outreach program of the Philippine Press Institute with support from Nickel Asia Corporation on “Let’s Get Real on Fake News” at the Batangas State University in Batangas City. The covenant signing highlighted the one-day activity that aims to help students and educators spot fake news and find ways to stop it. The next legs will be conducted in the NCR and Bulacan.

T H E g ov e r n m e nt w i l l establish another industrial estate in Caraga region. Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oro Chamber) president Robertino Pizarro told reporters over the weekend that with about 1,000 megawatts power in Mindanao it is more than enough to fuel two new
industrial estates. Pizarro said that he has conferred with an official of the Philippine Economic Zones Authority (PEZA) who relayed to him that the government is eyeing Caraga as a new industrial hub. This comes at a time when PEZA is actively involved in creating new industrial estates as part of efforts to
develop economic zones in every city and province.
