MD MPH FACOG
By Alexandra Mariano for medicine first, continuously balancing attending physician and director positions at multiple hospitals. After fully experiencing the professional field of medicine, Dr. Tolaymat made the life-changing decision to transition from working under big organizations to opening her own independent practice. She contrived and fully enforces Sunshine Perinatology’s philosophy of putting patients first and giving them unrushed care. Dr. Tolaymat spends at least 30 minutes with each patient and commutes around 300 miles per week attending to patients in Orange, Polk, and Volusia counties. Additionally, she is the only perinatologist in central Florida available to patients for extended hours during the week and also Saturdays. She and her staff put their best efforts into catering to patients’ needs. Besides English, Dr. Tolaymat’s team can speak Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
A medical practitioner for over 18 years, Dr. Lama Tolaymat founded Sunshine Perinatology, one of the few central Florida centers specializing in maternal fetal medicine (MFM). MFM, also called perinatology, deals specifically with high-risk pregnancies. Sunshine Perinatology offers patients first-rate care while never treating them as just another statistic. Dr. Tolaymat brings an extensive list of qualifications and familiarity with Florida’s medical practice. She has degrees from Jacksonville University, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami. Proud to be an American citizen for over 20 years, Dr. Tolaymat is the first Syrian woman double board certified in obstetrics/gynecology and maternal fetal medicine. On top of all that, she is also a registered diagnostic medical sonographer. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Tolaymat has always put her passion
While she learned a lot working with bigger organizations and hospitals, Dr. Tolaymat has seen the benefits of entrepreneurship and is more than happy to stick to her independent practice. Central Florida has been very kind to her as she’s begun to root herself in the area. As she’s moved forward with her ambitions, she will always be grateful to Bobby Luthra, Dr. John Choi, Nina Faska, CEO Aitor Goyarrola, and Jasmine Goyarrola. Even as she runs Sunshine Perinatology, Dr. Tolaymat has the privilege of attending to patients in Orlando Health and Florida Hospital, and she appreciates the opportunities given to her by both of these organizations. She believes that her independent practice can offer patients their dream of an individualized visit, expanding beyond the typical doctor’s appointment and forming bonds that transcend the clinic walls. Ultimately, patients have the right to choose their specialist—and everything that Dr. Tolaymat has worked toward marks her and her practice as a compassionate, genuine resource for any woman in need of a high-risk obstetrician.
