EDITO Il y a une trentaine d’années, quelques constructeurs automobiles ont massivement et durablement investi dans ce qui ne s’appelait pas encore « qualité perçue ». Au-delà de la fiabilité de leurs véhicules, ils ont pris soin de leurs carrosseries, de leurs intérieurs, de la qualité des matériaux, d’abord dans un souci de préserver le vieillissement. Car une automobile qui vieillit bien, apporte un regard qualitatif et de robustesse sur la marque auprès de la clientèle. En plus, la valeur résiduelle, c’està-dire la valeur en occasion, reste élevée, et soutien le prix du neuf.

Après avoir travaillé sur tous les paramètres de la valeur résiduelle, ils ont travaillé sur la perception des clients du beau, du confort, du bien fini.

Les jeux fins, les affleurements soignés, les lignes de lumière pures, l’harmonie des couleurs et matières, les retours de fins de pièces travaillés offrant un visuel propre, sont devenus des signes distinctifs de certaines marques. A performances techniques égales avec d’autres véhicules, ces constructeurs se sont démarqués sur ces aspects, engendrant un ressenti « premium, haut de gamme », permettant de vendre plus cher et mieux que d’autres constructeurs. Et aujourd’hui ils sont les leaders du marché automobile, et les autres redoublent d’efforts pour combler le retard.

Cette approche « qualité perçue » est structurante pour une entreprise et s’intègre dans toutes les phases de conception et d’industrialisation d’un produit. D’autres secteurs intègrent cette approche. Dans le secteur aéronautique, le tout nouveau FALCON 5X de DASSAULT AVIATION, dévoilé dans ce numéro, en est un criant exemple. Son intérieur est totalement construit avec cette approche qualité perçue. Les Designers ont eu comme priorité constante de dessiner un intérieur intégré, de résoudre les problèmes de jeux liés à la dilatation du fuselage, d’optimiser l’expérience de vol du passager. Il est beau, et bien fini, et pas uniquement parce qu’il exploite des matériaux riches et beaux.

C’est une approche passionnante qui crée de la valeur pour les clients, mais aussi pour les entreprises qui s’y impliquent.

Some thirty years ago, a hand of car makers massively and durably invested in what would be later called “perceived quality”. Beyond daily concern for reliability, they started to give some very extra special care to bodywork, interiors, material quality, firstly to delay the aging of their vehicles: most people understand that ageing well brings along values of robustness and quality for the brand. Moreover, the residual value, that is the value of the car on the second-hand market, remains at a high level, therefore sustains the price level of new vehicles. Residual value cursors being optimized, these car makers started to work on the way customers perceive their products, in terms of beauty & appeal, comfort, finishing.

Homogeneous gaps, fine-tuned flush, pure and pleasant light distortion, colours and trims harmony, clean visual appearance of parts ending, these are some of the topics that became their key distinctive mark on the market. Their products slowly came to be considered as “premium” or “high-range” products, opening the door for high pricing and better sales. They stand today as leaders on the automotive market, pushing their competitors to work with a vengeance to try and bridge the gap.

Other industries recently started to make their move towards “perceived quality”, an approach that clearly stand as a structuring element when being integrated in the way a company design and industrialize its products. DASSAULT AVIATION brand new FALCON 5X, presented in this issue, is a prime example of a plane interior developed around a sound perceived quality approach. Designers kept in mind -as a top priority- to draft and sketch a fully integrated interior, making no concessions with regard to gap issues related to aircraft body expansion, devoting their time to optimize flight experience for passengers. A beautiful plane… a finely finished plane… far beyond the superficial integration of nice and expensive fabrics.

Olivier Meyer reçoit son diplôme d’ingénieur aéronautique en 1993, il est major de promotion. Il débute sa carrière dans le conseil pour l’industrie automobile, puis créé en 1997 une entreprise de 60 salariés d’une base de données de veille économique et technique pour l’industrie automobile, avec des opérations en France, Tchéquie, Japon et USA. Il rejoint ASSYSTEM en 2003 pour développer une business unit ainsi qu’animer les démarches marketing et communication pour l’automobile.

Olivier Meryer créé le groupe STYLE & DESIGN en 2009 et le préside depuis.

Olivier Meyer was awarded his aviation engineering degree in 1993; he was top of his class. He began his career in the automotive industry and then in 1997 created a company of 60 employees which sold a database of technical and economic benchmarking in the automotive industry, with operations in France, Czech Republic, Japan and the USA. He joined ASSYSTEM in 2003 to develop a business unit as well as manage the marketing and communications of the automotive division.

Oliver Meyer created the group STYLE & DESIGN in 2009 and heads it since that time.

Diplomé de l’ école d’ingénieur IPSA, Antoine Cardon Débuta chez AIR CREATION en 1993 en tant que technico commercial. En 1998, AIR CREATION lui propose de le poste de Directeur Technique, qu’il accepte. Enclin à de nouveaux horizons, Antoine accepte en juin 2011 le rôle de Chef de projets que STYLE&DESIGN lui propose.

Antoine Cardon was graduated from the School of Engineering IPSA. He began at AIR CREATION in 1993 as a technical sales representative. In 1998, AIR CREATION offered him the post of technical director, that he accepted. In June 2011 Antoine accepted the role of Project Manager that STYLE & DESIGN offered him.

Zélia y puis sa force et sa créativité. Son sens inné du spectacle et de la scénographie représente des atouts indéniables pour mettre en valeur son univers. Chaque robe a une «histoire» et quand elle arrive enfin,terminée au pied de la Butte Montmartre, il lui reste à trouver « a Belle». La femme qui lui donnera en la portant ,tout son éclat, tout son sens. Désormais connue et reconnue pour le travail qu’elle a osé accomplir sur la couleur et sur les matières, c’est bien au-delà des frontières que vogue sa réputation.

Her collections are all inspired by her travels and experiences. This is where Zelia finds her strength and creativity. Her innate sense of showmanship and staging are undeniable advantages to showcase her universe. Romain CHAREYRE

STYLE&DESIGN Creative Design Manager / Art Director Romain Chareyre obtient son Master de Design transport en 2001. Il débute sa carrière en tant que designer / chef de projet chez Volkswagen en Allemagne, où il passera 6 ans de sa vie. Il rejoint IDESTYLE en 2007 où il dirige l’équipe design pendant 2 ans. Aujourd’hui, Romain est Creative design manager chez STYLE&DESIGN où il mèle la stratégie design et la direction artistique des projets.

Romain Chareyre was awarded his engeneering transportation design degree in 2001. He began his career as exterior design project leader at Volkswagen in Germany. He joined IDESTYLE in 2007 to lead the design team for 2 years. Today Romain is the Creative design manager of STYLE&DESIGN where he combined design strategy & art direction.

Michael GUINET Chef de produit BENETEAU france BENETEAU Product Manager

Michael Guinet débute sa carrière dans l’industrie du ski où il y consacrera 10 années de carrière en tant que chef de produits fixations de skis et accessoires techniques. Il intègre Bénéteau en 2009 en tant que chef de projet réseaux et clients. Il devient en 2010, responsable coordination marketing Moteur puis en 2012, chef de produit hors bord pour les gammes Flyer, Barracuda et Antares HB. Michael Guinet began his career in the ski industry where he will devote 10 years of career as a product manager for technical accessories. He integrated BENETEAU in 2009 as networks & clients project manager. He became in 2010, engine marketing coordination manager, and then in 2012, product manager for outboard Flyer, Barracuda and Antares HB ranges.

Son positionnement généraliste lui permet de proposer une large gamme de bateaux à moteur de 5 à 20 mètres. STYLE & DESIGN a été choisi pour dévélopper la nouvelle gamme FLYER , bateaux à moteur hors-bord allant de 5.5 mètres à 8.5 mètres.

BENETEAU is a boat manufacturer that divides its activity between sailing yachts and motor boats. Its positioning as a generalist provider means that it is able to propose a large range of motor boats from 5 to 20 metres in length. STYLE & DESIGN was chosen to develop a new range named FLYER, an outboard motorboat available from 5.5 metres to 8.5 metres in length.

by Romain CHAREYRE, Creative Design Manager «La nouvelle stratégie de BENETEAU pour ce marché est de proposer un produit innovant, fort et économiquement intéressant. Afin de mettre en place cette stratégie, un challenge design a été proposé à une sélection de studios de design et d’architectes navals internationaux. STYLE&DESIGN s’est vu proposé de participer à ce concours. L’atelier de création a relevé le challenge bien que n’ayant jamais démontré auparavant sa capacité à créer pour le monde du nautisme. La société a alors adopté une stratégie de réponse en design global. Nos designers sont partis de l’analyse du marché et des attentes et usages utilisateurs afin de déterminer notre brief produit. Nous avons développé un concept fort répondant aux contraintes de production et offrant de fortes progressions de marché. SIMPLE et PERFORMANT. Nous avons décidé de proposer un produit répondant à une promesse marketing efficace : ICONIQUE, INTERNATIONAL, RENTABLE. Nous avons présenté notre proposition à BENETEAU en concurrence avec une quinzaine de participants. Après délibération, nous avons été choisis pour développer la nouvelle gamme FLYER composée de 7 bateaux. Le cœur de gamme est représenté par le FLYER 6 mètres décliné en 3 ponts (3 types d’utilisation). La phase de challenge a représenté, dans la démarche du studio design, la validation d’un concept global et des promesses marketing (USP). La phase de développement a été dédiée à la traduction de ces USP en design, fonctionnalités et optimisation du prix de revient.

Le développement design s’est basé sur une coque de 6 mètres et de 3 ponts. Cette création STYLE&DESIGN s’est appuyé sur l’expertise technique, fabrication et marketing BENETEAU. Le positionnement de STYLE&DESIGN, tant dans la phase challenge que dans le développement projet, a été de proposer à BENETEAU des opportunités design appliquées à l’utilisateur et au marché.

Notre rôle de styliste a été de trouver les bons arguments ciblés : Un design compréhensible par la majorité des clients, un design expressif et reconnaissable, un design offrant une réelle vie à bord, un design innovant et moderne, un design offrant des possibilités de valeur ajoutée au travers d’accessoires et de personnalisation.

Les designers ont porté une attention particuilère à la qualité perçue du produit en anticipant, avec les moyens de production, des solutions pratiques et des choix design et matières. Dans un marché très concurrentiel, axé sur le prix et les nouveautés, notre apport au projet a été de designer un produit fort : identité de marque, identité produit, utilisation, rapport qualité-prix. L’idée a été de développer un package d’offre client riche pour un investissement coût optimisé. » « BENETEAU’s new strategy for this market is to propose a strong, innovative and good value product. In order to put this strategy into place, a styling challenge was set for a selection of styling studios and international boat designers.

STYLE&DESIGN was asked to take part in the competition. The styling workshop took up the challenge despite having never created anything previously in the boating world. The company decided therefore to adopt a global design strategy. Our stylists analysed the market as well as user needs and habits in order to determine the product brief. We developed a strong concept which took into account any production constraints and which offered real progress in the market. SIMPLE and HIGH PERFORMING. We decided to propose a product with a powerful marketing promise (USP), ICONIC, INTERNATIONAL, PROFITABLE. We presented our proposal to BENETEAU to compete against the 15 other entries.

After deliberation, we were chosen to develop the new FLYER range composed of 7 boats. The heart of the range is represented by the 6 metre FLYER available in 3 decks (3 uses). This challenge phase represented, in the design studio’s approach, the validation of a global concept and the USPs. The development phase was dedicated to the translation of these USPs into Styling, functionality and cost price optimisation. The development of the Styling was based on a 6 metre hull and 3 decks.

This STYLE&DESIGN development relied on BENETEAU’s technical, production and marketing expertise. Our standpoint throughout the challenge phase and during project development was to propose styling designs to BENETEAU that were relevant to the user and the market. Our role as stylist was to find the right targeted sales arguments such as a design that is understandable by the majority of clients as well as being expressive and recognisable, a design that takes into account real life on board, that is innovative and modern and offers opportunity for added value with accessories and personalisation.

Our role was also to look at the perceived quality of the product taking into account production methods, offering practical solutions in the choice of styling and materials.In a very competitive market focused on price and innovation, our contribution to the project was to design a unique product with brand identity, product identity and good value for money. In other words, we presented a full package to our client for an optimised cost investment. »

NEW FLYER MAKE IT YOURS

BENETEAU dévoile les lignes de son nouveau concept pour la gamme FLYER. Créée en 1980, la gamme Flyer ne cesse d’évoluer et s’est forgée une place de premier ordre sur le marché des bateaux à moteur hors-bord. Elle se renouvelle aujourd’hui avec un design ultra-innovant, inspiré de l’automobile, dont le premier modèle, le FLYER 6, a été présenté au Nautic de Paris 2013.

BENETEAU reveals the lines of their new concept for the FLYER range. Created in 1980, the Flyer range has never stopped evolving and has earned a top-rank place in the outboard-engined powerboat market. Today it is reasserting itself with an ultra-innovative design inspired by automobile identifier codes, and the first model, the FLYER 6, has been presented at the 2013 Paris Boat Show.

Le design du nouveau concept FLYER s’exprime avant-tout par son identité forte. BENETEAU s’est adressé à STYLE&DESIGN, agence de design et atelier de création. De cette collaboaration est née un bateau moderne et innnovant, au design épuré. Immédiatement accrocheuse, l’étrave inspirée des codes de l’automobile viendra signer les différents modèles de la game pour un style résolument différent. Avec son dessin de carène spécifique, la coque a été étudiée pour offrir puissance, stabilité et sécurité. A la pointe de la technologie, elle est équipée de la nouvelle génération d’Air Step, adaptée à cette taille de bateau et apporte souplesse et confort en navigation. Polyvalent, ce nouveau concept apporte une solution à chaque rêve de navigation à bord d’un dayboat.Dans cette optique, il se décline en 3 versions de ponts, possédant chacune son univers graphique, sur lesquels les espaces de vie ont été maximisés afin d’optimiser le confort à bord et proposer de nouvelles fonctions.

The design of the new-concept FLYER is demonstrated above all by its strong identity. BENETEAU turned to STYLE&DESIGN, the design agency and creative design studio. A major French player in industrial design STYLE&DESIGN. From this collaboration comes a modern, innovative boat with an uncluttered design.

With a 6.10m hull, it offers a combination of technology and hitherto unseen attention to detail. Immediately recognisable, the bow takes on automobile identifier codes: grilles, perceived quality, coherence of style. It will come to be the hallmark for a seriously different style of the various models in the range.

With its specifically designed fairing, the hull has been devised to give power, stability and safety. At the forefront of technology, it has a new generation Air Step hull, suited to this size of boat and brings adaptability and comfort when under way. Flexible, this new concept brings an answer to every dayboat sailing dream. With this approach, it comes in a variety of forms with three deck versions, each with its own graphic environment, in which the living spaces have been maximised in order to optimise on-board comfort and offer new benefits.

Entretien avec BENETEAU Patrick TABLEAU, Responsable Marketing et Michael GUINET, chef de projet Hors-bord, nous expliquent leur vision du projet FLYER et la relation avec STYLE&DESIGN TRIBUNE : Que represente pour BENETEAU le lancement de FLYER 6 ?

Que représente ce bateau au sein de l’offre Bénéteau ?

Michael GUINET : Pour BENETEAU, ce lancement de Flyer 6 représente le renouveau de la gamme .

Créée il y a 30 ans , la gamme Flyer est entrée dans l’histoire du motonautisme, elle a besoin aujourd’hui de se repositionner sur un marché du dayboat fortement concurrentiel. Proposer une nouvelle gamme à l’identité forte, en rupture avec l’existant, tout en conservant nos points forts technologiques, reconnus en terme de navigation ( ndlr: Brevet AirStep° ), c’est le challenge qui se concrétise aujourd’hui avec le lancement de ce Flyer 6 au Nautic, proposé et présenté en 3 versions de pont qui répondront aux programmes des plaisanciers , qu’ils soient à la recherche d’un bateau polyvalent , ou plutot dédié à la farniente , ou encore d’un bateau plus sportif.

Ce Flyer 6 est stratégique pour 2 raisons: le succès de ce challenge va nous permettre de nous affirmer comme un leader sur le marché du dayboat.

Mais au dela du volume des ventes et du gain de part de marché immédiat, BENETEAU se doit d’accorder une importance particulière à ces clients: nouveaux sur le marché du motonautisme, ce sont les clients qui feront le marché du motorboat de demain. Et BENETEAU, avec ses Gammes Gran Turismo , Monte Carlo, Antares ou encore Swift Trawler saura les accompagner dans leur évolution. La satisfaction de ces clients envers nos produits et nos services , est primordiale.

TRIBUNE: Pourquoi avez-vous décidé de collaborer avec STYLE&DESIGN sur ce nouveau produit ?

Patrick TABLEAU, Marketing Manager and Michael GUINET, Outboard Project Manager, their vision of the project and their relationship with STYLE&DESIGN TRIBUNE: How important is the launch of the FLYER 6 for BENETEAU? What is the importance of this boat in the BENETEAU range?

Michael GUINET : For BENETEAU the launch of the Flyer 6 represents the renewal of the range. The Flyer range was created 30 years ago and has entered into the history of motor boating but today it needs to be repositioned in the highly competitive day boat market. The challenge that we face today is to propose a new range with a strong identity that makes a break with the current range but nevertheless preserves our technological competitive advantage which is recognised in navigation (ref the Patent AirStep). The launch of the Flyer 6 at the Boat Show meets this challenge, with the presentation of 3 versions of the deck which respond to the needs of boat enthusiasts, whether they are looking for an all-round boat, one dedicated to relaxation or even a more sporty boat.

Patrick TABLEAU : Pour ce projet , nous avons organisé un concours , mettant en concurrence les plus grandes agences de design. Nous avons été impressionné par la qualité de tous les dossiers. Le projet de STYLE&DESIGN intégrait en plus une dimension industrielle, c’est à dire que S&D a réussi à comprendre les contraintes industrielles du chantier , et d’en tirer des choix en terme de conception et de design qui permettent d’optimiser la qualité perçue finale. Nous avons été bluffé par cette approche, d’autant plus qu’à notre connaissance le studio n’avait pas de client dans l’industrie nautique .

The Flyer 6 is strategic for two reasons.

The success of this challenge will allow us to establish ourselves as a leader in the day boat market.

But over and above sales volumes and an immediate gain in market share, BENETEAU must pay particular attention to its clients. New clients in the market of motor boating are those who will make the market of tomorrow’s motor boating. And BENETEAU, with its range including Gran Turismo, Monte Carlo, Antares or even Swift Trawler will be able to accompany them in their journey. Customer satisfaction in our products and services is top priority.

TRIBUNE: Why have you decided to collaborate with STYLE&DESIGN on this new product?

Patrick TABLEAU : We organised a competition for this project, pitching the best styling agencies against each other. We were impressed by the quality of the submissions. The Style & Design project integrated an industrial dimension. In other words S&D managed to understand the industrial constraints of the yard and were able to make proposals in terms of design and styling which enabled an optimisation of the perceived quality. We were really impressed by this approach, all the more so, since to our knowledge, the studio had never worked with a client in the boating industry before.

TRIBUNE: Quelle valeur ajoutée ce cabinet de design a-t-il à vos yeux ?

Patrick TABLEAU : C’est justement cette faculté d’adaptation que nous présagions à juste titre qui permet aujourd’hui une facilité dans nos échanges pour une compréhension mutuelle de nos besoins.

Nous bénéficions également du regard nouveau de STYLE&DESIGN , apportant une vraie créativité dans ses propositions , ce qui est totalement en phase avec le positionnement innovant de notre projet

TRIBUNE: What added value does this styling studio bring in your eyes?

Patrick TABLEAU : It’s exactly this ability to adapt that we were rightly predicting and which today makes for an ease of exchange and a mutual understanding of needs. We also benefit from the new perspective that Style & Design can bring, including a real creativity in its proposals. This is completely in line with the innovative positioning of our project.

TRIBUNE: Envisagez-vous de futures collaborations avec STYLE&DESIGN ?

Patrick TABLEAU : Bien sur , c’est déjà le cas car nous avons le reste de la gamme à développer avec les coques de 5 m , 7 m et 8 m .

Même si le concept est identique , Ce sont bien des nouveaux bateaux , avec des fonctions différentes , des coques nouvelles avec des concepts AirStep adaptés. De plus , nous avons aussi évoqué de nouveaux concepts de bateaux ....

TRIBUNE: Are you planning on future collaborations with STYLE&DESIGN? Patrick TABLEAU : Yes of course, it’s already the case since we have the rest of the range to develop with hulls from 5m, 7m and 8m. Even if the concept is identical they are still new boats, with different functions, new hulls with adapted AirStep concepts. What’s more, we have also talked about new boat concepts….

ZELIA Mercedes- Benz Féérique Gallery

L’atelier de création STYLE&DESIGN a réalisé les mannequins présentant la collection « robes de princesses et carrosses d’acier » de la styliste Zélia dévoilée à la Mercedes féérique gallery des Champs Elysees.

The creative workshop produced models to present the collection “princess dresses and steel carriages” unveiled by the stylist Zelia at the magical Mercedes Gallery in the Champs Elysees.

Zélia est une artiste, qui depuis plus de 20 ans invente et conçoit en autodidacte, des «robes de rêve».

Elle a imaginé pour Mercedes huit modèles uniques, habités par l’esprit des voitures emblématiques de la marque. Zelia nous donne ici sa vision d’une princesse moderne et émancipée, qui conduit elle-même son carrosse d’acier. Des femmes captées par l’objectif de la photographe Emma Le Doyen, qui réalise une série de clichés exposés durant la présentation des robes, étaient visibles à la Mercedes-Benz Gallery des Champs Elysées jusqu’au 30 juin 2013. Dans une scénographie proposée par Zélia ellemême, à laquelle STYLE&DESIGN a participé.

Zelia is an artist who has been independently inventing and designing “dream dresses” for the past 20 years. She thought up eight unique pieces for Mercedes, inspired by the brand’s emblematic cars. Zelia demonstrates her vision of an emancipated modern princess who drives her own steel carriage. These women are viewed through the lens of the photographer Emma Le Doyen who has produced a series of photos exhibited throughout the presentation of the dresses and that are available for viewing at the Mercedes-Benz Gallery in the Champs Elysées until 30th June 2013. The staging for the dresses is signed Zélia with the participation of STYLE&DESIGN.

Après une expo clin d’oeil aux « Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks » sur laquelle la société STYLE&DESIGN était déjà intervenue pour la réalisation d’éléments de scénographie, la Mercedes-Benz Gallery, sise au 118, Avenue des Champs-Elysées à Paris, a ouvert ses portes à la créatrice Zélia, qui a exposé huit robes inédites aux cotés de cinq Mercedes anciennes et actuelles. Pour cela, Zélia a elle-même mis en scène l’exposition avec l’aide de l’agence de communication WIN-WIN, pour créer une véritable installation inspirée de contes et légendes. STYLE&DESIGN est intervenu sur la réalisation de mannequins spécifiques, articulés, mettant en scène les créations de l’artiste.

Following an exhibition that was a nod to “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks” in which STYLE&DESIGN had already been involved by producing the staging, the Mercedes-Benz Gallery, situated at 118, Avenue des ChampsElysées in Paris, opened its doors to the designer Zelia, who exhibited eight dresses, never been viewed before, next to five vintage or current Mercedes. Zelia designed the staging for the exhibition with the help of the communication agency WInWin. STYLE&DESIGN was involved in the production of the specific articulated mannequins, used to display the artist’s designs. Zelia, in the role of creative fairy dreamed up modern day dresses for princesses who go to the ball in their steel carriage.

TWIZY F1 Développé par les équipes de Renault Sport et de Renault Sport F1 avec le soutien créatif de l’atelier STYLE & DESIGN, ce prototype aussi spectaculaire qu’insolite a été révélé le 25 avril 2013 dans l’usine Renault de Valladolid en Espagne, là où est fabriqué le Twizy de série.

Developed by the Renault Sport and Renault Sport F1 with the creative support of the STYLE & DESIGN workshop, this unusual and spectacular prototype was unveiled on 25th April 2013 in the Renault factory at Valladolid in Spain, where they manufacture the Twizy production model.

Twizy RSF1 est un concentré de sportivité qui adopte les technologies et codes de la F1, le tout dans un espace réduit: 2,60 m de longueur, 1,49 m de largeur et 1,45 m de hauteur !

Imaginez : un Twizy électrique avec une lame avant, des pontons latéraux, un aileron arrière et un diffuseur intégrant un feu de pluie et un volant de Formule 1. Ajoutez à cela, des roues de monoplace et le système KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System : système de récupération d’énergie cinétique) qu’on retrouve sur les moteurs Renault en F1 (Redbull racing, Williams, Caterham, Lotus), qui multiplie par 6 la puissance de Twizy, pour atteindre presque 100 ch ! De 0 à 100 km/h, Twizy RSF1 est ainsi catapulté à la vitesse d’une Mégane R.S., le modèle Renault le plus performant. Mélangez tout cela et vous obtenez ce concept-car body-buildé plein de peps, qui en fera sourire plus d’un !

La créativité et les savoir-faire STYLE & DESIGN ont séduit les équipes Renault Sport et Renault Design, qui avaient déjà en tête de réaliser le concept en vue de le faire courir au Grand Prix d’Espagne 2013. L’atelier de création a ainsi accompagné le créateur automobile dans la création design et la réalisation du premier prototype roulant Twizy RS F1. Ce concept fort en personnalité est bluffant de créativité et ce, grâce aux nombreuses références à l’univers des Grands Prix.

Twizy RSF1 is a concentration of sportiness using F1 technology and practices, all inserted into a smaller space: 2.6m in length, 1.49m in width and 1.45m in height! Imagine an electric Twizy with a front blade, side pontoons, a rear spoiler and a diffuser integrating a rain headlight and a Formula 1 steering wheel. Add to that single seater wheels, and the KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that are found on the Renault engines in F1 (Redbull racing, Williams, Caterham, Lotus), which multiply the Twizy’s power by 6, to reach 100 horsepower! From 0 to 100km/h, the Twizy RSF1 is catapulted to the speed of a Megane R.S., the most powerful Renault model. Mix it together and you have a pumped up concept car which will make more than one person smile.

STYLE & DESIGN’s creativity and expertise attracted the Renault Sport and Renault Design teams who already had the idea to produce the concept for entry into the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix. The creative workshop therefore assisted the car manufacturer in the styling and the production of the first working Twizy RS F1. The concept is rich in personality and boasts stunning creativity largely thanks to its numerous references to the world of Grand Prix.

Mais finalement, pourquoi un tel projet ?

L’idée est venue de Renault Sport F1, qui souhaitait montrer à une audience plus large son savoir-faire acquis sur la propulsion électrique grâce aux systèmes KERS, apparus dès 2009 sur le plateau. Ne l’oublions pas, la FIA met en place de nouvelles réglementations moteur pour la saison 2014, pour faire un lien plus évident entre les pistes et les routes, en intégrant notamment les technologies électriques.

But finally, why carry out this project?

The idea came from Renault Sport F1, who wanted to demonstrate to a wide audience their expertise in electric propulsion thanks to the KERS system used in the FI arena since 2009. Let’s not forget that the FIA are introducing new engine rules for the 2014 season to create a closer link between the track and the road, in particular by integrating electric technology.

PIKES PEAK C’est au volant du prototype puissant de la 208 T16 Pikes Peak, développé par Peugeot Sport, que Sébastien Loeb, champion du monde des rallyes, a battu le record de la célébre course de côté, au Colorado.

Si son style extérieur s’inspire du modèle de série, la Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak a été conçue exclusivement pour cette course qui représente un exercice technique très spécifique. C’est dans cet esprit que les designers se sont attelés à la conception d’une carrosserie légère en composite pour optimiser les performances du véhicule et atteindre le record de cette course one shot mondialement reconnue. Agressive, féroce, racée… La Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak est devenue, depuis sa victoire le 30 juin 2013, une référence dans le monde de la compétition.

Sébastien Loeb réalise une performance exceptionnelle au volant de la Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak et devient le « King of the Peak », en terminant la course en seulement 08’13»878. Il bat ainsi, avec plus d’1 minute 30 d’avance, le précédent record détenu par Rhys Millen en 2012 (09’46»w164)… 25 ans après la Peugeot 405 T16, la Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak est rentrée dans la légende de Pikes Peak avec cette incroyable performance.

Le pilote de la 208 T16 Pikes Peak a parfaitement su gérer l’enjeu de cet exercice sans filet : « Au moment du départ, j’ai vraiment ressenti une pression particulière car cette montée représente l’aboutissement de huit mois de travail pour toute l’équipe Peugeot Sport. J’hésitais à attaquer à fond ou à assurer un chrono mais, une fois au départ, je n’ai pas pu m’empêcher d’aller aux limites de cette voiture fantastique ».

It’s at the wheel of the powerful 208 T16 Pikes Peak prototype, developed by Peugeot Sport, that Sébastien Loeb, World Rally Champion beat the record of this famous hill climb race, in Colorado.

Although its outside appearance was inspired by the production model, the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak was designed exclusively for this race which was a very specific technical challenge. It’s with this in mind that the designers worked on the design of a light body in composite in order to optimise the performance of the vehicle and attack the record for this world famous one shot race. Aggressive, ferocious, racy… since its victory on 30th June 2013 the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak has become a reference in the world of competition. Sébastien Loeb gave an exceptional performance at the wheel of the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak and became the “King of the Peak” by finishing the race in only 08’13»878. He therefore beat the former record holder Rhys Millen who managed 09’46»164 in 2012 by over 1 min 30. 25 years after the Peugeot 405 T16, the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak has become a Pikes Peak legend thanks to this incredible performance.

The driver of the 208 T16 Pikes Peak was able to perfectly manage what was at stake in this race without safety net, “At the starting line, I really felt under pressure because this hill climb represented the culmination of eight months of work for the whole of the Peugeot Sport team. I hesitated to fully attack and go for the best time, but once off the starting line, I couldn’t help but push this fantastic car to its limits.”

A full scale model, produced by the creative studio STYLE&DESIGN was presented as a world exclusive as part of the largest international business aviation show. The Falcon 5X is a new generation aircraft equipped with new flight control systems, new aerodynamics and other cutting edge technology, much of which is taken directly from the company’s military programs.

©Julien Rolland DASSAULT AVIATION a dévoilé le Falcon 5X à Las Vegas à l’occasion de la convention annuelle de la National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), le plus gros salon mondial de l’aviation d’affaires, et a présenté son dernier-né comme un avion « de rupture », un avion doté de la cabine la plus large du marché, qui présente un rendement carburant de 30 à 50% meilleur que celui des avions de même catégorie.

DASSAULT AVIATION unveiled the Falcon 5X in Las Vegas during the annual National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Convention, the world’s largest Show for Business Aviation. The newcomer was presented as a ground breaking aircraft equipped with the largest cabin space in the market. It also offers fuel efficiency that is 30 to 50% better than other aeroplanes in its category.

En lien étroit avec DASSAULT AVIATION, STYLE&DESIGN a réalisé la maquette échelle 1 du 5X. La société a pu offrir un service d’étude complète du projet jusqu’à sa réalisation. Afin de valoriser la qualité du produit, l’atelier de création a su proposer des technologies innovantes de fabrication, dédiées à l’origine à l’industrie automobile. Elle a d’autre part veillé à la résistance au vieillissement du produit, par le choix méticuleux de matériaux qualitatifs.

Le Falcon 5X offre la cabine passager la plus spacieuse de sa catégorie, et un hauteur sous plafond de 1m98, la plus haute du marché. La cabine offre les technologies dernier cri en matière de connectivité et d’équipements multimédia (wifi, satcoms, écrans HD, …). Ces équipements s’intègrent dans un décor raffiné assorti d’un ameublement aux lignes pures et fluides.

La force de STYLE&DESIGN fut le suivi du projet de A à Z. Ainsi, grâce à ses compétences et son savoir-faire la société a pu assurer la conception de toute l’alimentation électrique de la maquette, permettant d’accueillir l’instrumentation électronique spécifiée par DASSAULT AVIATION. Enfin et toujours dans un souci de satisfaction client optimale, STYLE&DESIGN a garanti la livraison de l’appareil sur le salon à Las Vegas ainsi que son montage sur place.

In close association with DASSAULT AVIATION, STYLE&DESIGN produced the full scale model of the 5X. The company was able to offer a complete service from the comprehensive study of the project through to to its production. In order to accentuate product quality, the styling Studio proposed innovative methods of manufacturing originally created for the automotive industry. They also protected against premature product ageing by the meticulous choice of quality materials.

The Falcon 5X disposes of the most spacious passenger cabin on the market. As well as generous dimensions, it has the greatest ceiling height (1.98m). The cabin offers cutting edge technology in connectivity and multimedia equipment (wifi, satcoms, HD screens etc). This equipment blends into a sophisticated matching decor combined with pure lines furniture in a sober design.

The strength of STYLE&DESIGN was its ability to manage the project from A to Z. In this way, thanks to its expertise and know-how, the company was able to design the model’s power supply to accommodate all the electronic instruments specified by DASSAULT AVIATION. ©Julien Rolland

Interview Antoine CARDON Chef de Projet STYLE&DESIGN pour Dassault Falcon 5X, Antoine nous présente le projet tel que lui et son équipe l’ont vécu pendant presque un an.

TRIBUNE : Même si il ne s’agit pas de son premier coup d’essai en terme de réalisation de maquette de fuselage, le falcon 5X est un projet de grande ampleur pour STYLE&DESIGN. Quels ont été ses délais de réalisation ?

Project Manager at STYLE & DESIGN dedicated to Dassault Falcon 5X, Antoine presents the project as he and his team have lived for almost a year.

TRIBUNE : Even it’s not the first time that STYLE&DESIGN have produced fuselage models, the Falcon5X is a large scale project. What were the deadlines for production?

Antoine CARDON : La phase d’étude a débuté dès novembre 2012. La maquette physique a été livrée fin septembre 2013, presque un an après que Dassault Aviation nous ait confié le projet.

Des délais larges et en même temps tendus, puisque le design intérieur a beaucoup évolué pendant la durée du projet, jusqu’à ce qu’il soit figé en juin dernier.

L’équipe a donc assuré la prestation de réalisation physique de l’intérieur du Falcon sur 4 mois.

TRIBUNE : Vous êtes expert en gestion de réalisation de maquette et prototype automobile, quelle différence y a t-il à vos yeux avec un prototype aérnautique ?

Antoine CARDON : The planning began in November 2012. The physical model was delivered end of September 2013, almost one year after Dassault Aviation awarded us the project. A longer deadline but at the same time a tight one since the interior design changed quite a bit throughout the project, until it was finally signed off last June. So actually the team carried out the physical production of the Falcon’s interior over 4 months.

A.C.: J’ai toujours été positionné sur des projets d’ampleur comme les MRVP au sein de STYLE&DESIGN; c’est à dire des maquettes automobiles très représentatives en termes de design mais aussi et surtout fonctionnelles. Lorsque l’on m’a confié la gestion de la maquette du nouveau Falcon, je n’ai donc pas été particulièrement paniqué par la réalisation d’un tel projet, surtout avec l’équipe de professionnels qui allait m’accompagner. Nous nous sommes appuyés sur notre savoir-faire en termes de maquettage automobile, qui demande une qualité de réalisation très pointue. La seule différence pour nous avec un projet automobile fut la taille et les délais de réalisation beaucoup plus importants.

STYLE&DESIGN a mis à disposition de son client du matériel spécifique et un bâtiment annexe à la société qui pouvait accueillir la maquette de fuselage echelle 1. Le Bilan est très bon au final, puisque la maquette de la cabine du Falcon 5X a reçu un accueil exceptionnel qui témoigne de la qualité de notre réalisation

A.C. : I have always looked after large projects within STYLE&DESIGN such as MRVPs , those are automotive models that are close representations in terms of design but above all are functional. So when I was given the management of the new Falcon model, I wasn’t particularly overwhelmed by the production of this sort of project, especially with the professional team that were supporting me.

We relied on our know-how from automotive modelling which demands a very high level of quality production. The only difference for us compared to an automotive project was the size and the much longer production time required. STYLE&DESIGN provided specific materials from the client and a separate building which was able to house the model of the fuselage to Scale 1.

TRIBUNE : Y a t-il une anecdote qui ressort du projet ?

TRIBUNE : Do you have any anecdotes about the project?

A.C. : Pour des raisons logistiques, nous avons dû souder les éléments du chassis de l’avion en extérieur. C’était en décembre dernier. L’hiver a été rude et la température était constamment inférieure à 0°C. J’ai fait l’acquisition d’une dizaine de manteaux, bonnets et polaires pour que l’équipe ne ressentent pas le froid. Nous avons travaillé dans une ambiance très positive, tout le monde a gardé le sourire ! C’est vraiment un moment fort du projet qu’on gardera en mémoire. L’équipe est restée soudée, a gardé son professionalisme et son efficacité de bout en bout. Nous sommes fiers d’avoir participé à ce beau projet, ce fut une belle motivation pour chacun d’entre nous.

A.C. : For logistical reasons we had to weld parts of the plane’s chassis outside. It was last December. The winter was harsh and the temperature was consistently below freezing. I bought a dozen coats, hats and fleeces so that the team could keep warm. We worked in a positive atmosphere, everybody stayed cheerful! It was a memorable part of the project. The team remained close knit, stayed professional and efficient from start to finish. We are proud to have been part of this great project; it was motivating for each of us.

YELKEN OCTURI Futuristic Aircraft Exposition STYLE & DESIGN propose l’exposition des travaux de son partenaire et designer OCTURI. Découvrez du 29 octobre 2013 au 06 janvier 2014 à l’Aéroclub de France une exposition innovante proposant des projets d’avions futuristes porteurs de création, de style et de design.

En vue de promouvoir l’innovation ainsi que la création de nouveaux concepts design et technologiques, la société propose un événement insolite; L’exposition Octuri : Avions Futuristes.

Sous le pseudonyme d’Octuri, Laurent Barrou propose des projets personnels d’avions futuristes, cela afin d’éviter toute confusion avec son activité de designer cabine chez Airbus. Octuri mène ses projets seul, de A à Z, ce qui est impossible dans un cadre professionnel. Le designer ne répond pas à des contraintes engineering. Ses projets ne sont pas immédiatement industrialisables. L’intérêt de sa démarche est de générer des idées et de susciter des réflexions.

STYLE & DESIGN Intervient au sein de cet événement, en tant que partenaire d’Octuri et membre du Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales (GIFAS) , pour promouvoir des nouvelles idées.

STYLE & DESIGN presents an exhibition on the works of their partner and designer OCTURI. From 10th October to 20th December at the Aéroclub France an innovative exhibition on futuristic aircraft projects highlighting creativity, style and design.

In order to promote innovation as well as the creation of new design and technological concepts, the company presents a one-off event, the Octuri Exhibition: Futuristic Aircraft.

Under the pseudonym Octuri, in order to avoid all confusion with his activity as a designer at Airbus, Laurent Barrou presents his personal projects of futuristic aircraft.

Octuri manages his projects alone, from A to Z, which is impossible in his professional life. The stylist does not take into account any engineering constraints. As a result his projects cannot immediately be engineered. The idea behind his approach is to generate ideas and to be thought provoking.

STYLE & DESIGN is involved in this event is as Octuri’s partner and in order to promote new ideas as a member of the French Association of Aviation & Aerospace Industries.

Depuis le lancement de son site internet, Laurent a eu 130 publications dans le monde entier, l’une des plus prestigieuses étant une double page dans « Time Magazine ». Un reportage sur son travail a été réalisé dans le cadre de l’émission E=M6.

Since the launch of his web site, Laurent has had 130 publications throughout the world, one of the most prestigious being a double page in Time Magazine. A report on his work was made for the wellknown French science show E=M6.

Pour son activité professionnelle chez Airbus, Laurent est en charge de réaliser la définition des couleurs et de matériaux de la cabine en relation directe avec les clients d’AIRBUS en intégrant les contraintes industrielles.

Par le passé, il a aussi été impliqué dans des projets de design industriel sur les programmes A380, A350, A330 & A320 (”monuments”, “lining”, siège, cockpit, mobilier, etc…)

In his professional life at Airbus, Laurent is in charge of the choice of colour and materials for the cabin space in conjunction with AIRBUS’ clients, taking into account industrial constraints. In the past he has been involved in industrial design projects on the A380, A350, A330 & A320 programs (monuments, lining, seating, cockpit, furnishings, etc.)

FAURECIA Urban Rhythm Seat Faurecia Automotive Seating a développé Urban Rhythm, un concept de siège entièrement dynamique pour un confort inégalé. STYLE & DESIGN a réalisé le prototype qui a été présenté au salon de l’automobile de Los Angeles 2012.

Faurecia Automotive Seating developed Urban Rhythm, a concept for a completely dynamic seat of unequalled comfort. STYLE & DESIGN produced the prototype which was presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2012.

Grâce à un matériau plastique thermosensible, Urban Rhythm s’ajuste en permanence à la morphologie et aux mouvements du passager.

Ce concept de siège repose sur un système complètement dynamique dont le dossier, l’assise et l’appui-tête s’adaptent en dimensions, en forme et en résistance. Et ce tout au long du trajet, selon l’état de la route et l’allure du véhicule. Pour un encombrement et un poids réduits, le passager est beaucoup plus confortablement installé mais également mieux protégé.

Thanks to a thermo sensitive plastic material, Urban Rhythm constantly adjusts to the passenger’s morphology and movements. This seat concept uses a fully dynamic system in which the back, the seat and the headrest adjust in size, shape and resistance. These adjustments happen constantly throughout the journey according to the road conditions and speed of the vehicle. The seats take up less space and are lighter, and also the passenger is not only more comfortable but better protected.

Le concept Yaris Hybrid-R est une synthèse de deux modèles de la marque que tout oppose. Le premier : la petite Toyota Yaris 3 portes, version hybride et le second : le prototype hybride TS030 engagé aux 24H du Mans et en Championnat du Monde d’Endurance. A l’arrivée : un concept Yaris hybride qui totalise 420 chevaux.

The Yaris Hybrid-R concept is a blend of two of the brand’s models which are the complete opposite of each other. The first is the hybrid version of the compact 3 door Toyota Yaris and the second is the hybrid TS030 that takes part in the 24 hour Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship.

The result is a hybrid Yaris concept which totals 420 horsepower

Présenté au salon de l’automobile de Francfort 2013, La Yaris Hybrid-R arbore un côté très sportif, ne serait-ce de par son extérieur : optiques modifiées, calandre plus imposante, ailes élargies, jantes 18 pouces, bouclier qui intègre deux prises d’air pour refroidir les disques de frein. Egalement assorti au design extérieur, l’habitacle se pare de bleu et accueille deux sièges baquets Recaro revêtus de cuir noir, ainsi qu’un volant gainé d’Alcantara.

Sur ce même volant se loge un bouton permettant de choisir entre deux modes de conduite : « Route » pour un usage quotidien, réduit la puissance du moteur thermique alors que « Piste » l’exploite à pleine puissance.

Les deux moteurs électriques, d’une puissance cumulée de 120 chevaux, viennent alors en renfort l’espace de cinq secondes, un peu comme un boost. Avec ce mode, il est également possible d’intervenir sur le couple et sur les roues en virage, pour faciliter son inscription par exemple, ou pour limiter quelques effets indésirables comme le sous-virage.

The Yaris Hybrid-R which was presented at the Frankfurt Motorshow 2013 features a sporty character, not least due to its exterior look: modified lamps and lights, an imposing radiator grill, flared fenders, 18 inch wheels, a shield which incorporates two air intakes for cooling the brake discs. To match the exterior, the interior is adorned in blue and features two Racaro bucket seats in black leather as well as a steering wheel wrapped in Alcantra.

An integrated button is featured on the steering wheel in order to choose between two styles of driving: “Road” for an everyday style which reduces the combustion engine power whereas “Track” unlocks full power.

PRINT Design & Application

STYLE&DESIGN Print met à disposition son expertise et sa dextérité au service d’un besoin marketing et/ou communication. Une équipe d’experts recherche et propose des solutions innovantes et tendances en termes de stickage et d’habillage dans des domaines aussi variés que l’automobile, le nautisme, l’aéronautique, le luxe ou encore l’événementiel.

Les films utilisés sont issus de différents partenariats fournisseurs et de la recherche & développement au sein du studio Print, qui ne cesse d’élaborer de nouvelles textures (stickers imitation bois, carbone blanc, aluminium brossé, doming etc.) grâce à son savoir-faire et son outil haute technologie.

Ainsi, le Print est intervenu sur de nombreux projets STYLE&DESIGN en matière d’animation telles que les séries limitées automobiles : habillage extérieur, création de doming, stickage d’éléments intérieur, thermoformage, etc.

STYLE&DESIGN Print applies its expertise and skills for a marketing and/or commercial requirement. A team of experts research and propose innovative and on-trend solutions in the form of stickers and trim in sectors as varied as automotive, aviation or even events.

The films used are sourced from various supplier partners and from research and development within the Print Studio. The team are constantly creating new textures (wood effect stickers, white carbon, brushed aluminium, doming etc.) thanks to its know-how and high technology tooling.

Therefore, the Print Studio has been involved in the facilitation of a number of STYLE&DESIGN projects such as limited edition cars: exterior trim, creation of doming, interior stickers, thermoshaping etc
