ABOUT US

In 1942

the Army Arts and Crafts Program was established to increase

morale and find artists to help with enhancing buildings and grounds of Army facilities. The program was so successful that the Army created the “Arts and Crafts Section of Special Services” to “fulfill the natural human desire to create, provide opportunities for self-expression serve old skills and develop new ones and assist the entire recreation program through construction work, publicity, and decoration.”

We offer activities that provide deployment stress relief and resiliency to Family members and Soldiers returning from deployment. The Arts and Crafts program continues to promote Soldier and Family morale, and fosters individual self-improvement and enriches the community’s cultural quality of life by offering affordable and quality creative arts instruction and hands-on assistance.

KIDS AND YOUNG ADULTS

MOMMY/DADDY & ME You’ve asked for it, and we’re happy to bring you Mommy/Daddy & Me! We’ll supply the materials, you bring the little fingers and toes. These classes are geared for children 6 weeks through three years old, and parent interaction is extremely important.

PAINTED CALENDAR You bring the tiny hands, we’ll bring the supplies. Using finger paints, we’ll make a calendar fit to display all year round.

"LOVE" PAINTING Paint onto canvas a decorative keepsake using the littlest handprint with added text. Use colors to match baby room or your living décor. Sure to be a heartwarming keepsake.

ART EDGE Patch Arts and Crafts Center has a partnership with Child Youth and School Services (CYSS) to bring you the Art Edge program. Art Edge courses are four week developmental courses designed to provide a more in depth look at that particular art form. Art Edge courses must be registered for through the Parent Central Services office.

ALL OCCASION CARDS Make it a New Year’s resolution to make someone feel special year round. Using scrapbooking techniques, learn to make cards for Valetine's, Birthday's, Mother's Day, Thank you's, and Just Because... This is a lifelong craft that will be appreciated every time.

PIXELATED PILLOWS Design a throw pillow based on your favorite 8-bit video game character! Learn an easy way to sew small squares together, and how to create a pillow case with a zipper. If you have a specific character in mind be sure to bring a photo on the first day of class to design your pillow. Students MUST HAVE taken Beginning Sewing 1 before the first day of class.

CARNIVALE FUN Let loose and let your fun side out by decorating masks for the Carnivale season.

Nothing is too extravagent for Carnivale season. Using feathers, sparkles, glitter and paint, make your mark on Carnivale this year. .

SLEEPOVER SUPPLIES Get ready for your next sleepover with friends by making a matching set of accessories to take with you! In this class you will make a snuggly blanket, a pillowcase and a pair of pajama pants to be stylish at your next party! Pre-requisite: Beginning Sewing 1 AND 2, available at Patch Arts and Crafts Center.

KIDS ‘N CLAY Learn the basics techniques needed to create what your creativity allows. Squish, roll, fold and learn to affix modeling clay at the Kelley Barracks Woodshop.

NEW! Creative Expressions is a new program offered by the Stuttgart Arts and Crafts program to encourage art exploration and building resiliency through artistic expression. Creative Expressions is an open format program where “makers” can choose from any number of raw materials to build, paint, draw, write, sculpt or craft. An artistic facilitator will assist with getting started and participants are invited to take as long as they need or work on as many projects as they like. There is no limit to the creative possibilities!

Creative Expressions time slots are based on age. Please check the schedule for the time that is right for you. Children 5 years and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult.

TWEEN NIGHT OUT If your tween (age 10+) is looking for something fun to do on a Friday night with friends, a crafty night out might be just the ticket! The evening will include learning a new craft skill, Pizza and drinks! Tween Night Out is a co-ed activity. Younger teens may sign up if they can treat tweens with respect and play well with the group.

DUCT TAPE CREATIONS Imagine all the fun things that can be made with duct tape to include flowers, wallets, belts, and so much more. Find your creative side with this fun tween night. BRAIDED RIBBON HEADBAND

Using ribbon learn to braid a headband that will compliment your outfits. To add more cuteness, braid a headband for your American Doll or other 18" doll to match.

Classes will introduce kids to textiles and fine arts and innovative crafts in a fun way to get them interested in going deeper with art as they get older.

FIBER ARTS BEGINNING SEWING 1 This class teaches children the very basics of what a sewing machine is, how to set it up, and how to sew a straight line. Children will make fabric coasters for their practical exercise, and will receive a sewing kit to get them started on their textile adventure. This class is required for all ages before taking any other sewing classes. Materials included.

SILK SCARF DESIGNS Come out to make your own personalized silk scarf. Your scarf creation will be the fashion envy of your neighbors and co-workers and can be personalized however you desire. No artistic skills required. Materials included.

CROSS STITCH Learn the traditional hand sewing technique of cross stitch, while making a fun modern design! Cross stitch is a great way to build hand-sewing skills and learn how to follow a pattern. Materials Included.

BEGINNING SEWING 2 This class is for those children who have completed Beginning Sewing Level 1 and wish to further develop their skills. In this class students will complete a pin cushion to add to their sewing kit. Materials Included.

TIME CRUNCH? We know having kids spread out across Stuttgart can be a challenge. If your child will be late to a class it may still be ok to register. Just let us know and we can see what works best for each class.

Parties are usually booked on Fridays and Saturdays, but other days are possible given classroom and instructor availability.

Exploding Quilt Block DEMO

Scissor Ratings

Using layer cakes and a stack and whack method paired with an easy cutting design, students can easily make enough exploding blocks for a nice size quilt in one sitting.

Beginner level classes help you learn the basics of quilting and get you rolling on your first few projects. These classes are designed to give you a firm foundation in quilting before progressing to more challenging projects. Most projects will be completed in class.

You have completed a few small projects and feel confident in your skills with a rotary cutter and a ¼” foot. 2 scissor classes are designed to continue to hone your skills and challenge you with new techniques and more complicated piecing. Some projects may require finishing on your own.



You are looking for something challenging to stretch you as a quilter. These classes are technique focused and will require homework to finish the project.

Hexagon Paper Piecing Demo

Not for the faint of

heart! 4 Scissor projects require a larger investment in time and commitment and show you are passionate about quilting!

This is a demonstration of the highly popular "Double Slice" quilt top. Students may work along, or observe. One to two blocks may be completed during this demo. Sewing machine certification is required to sew. No prerequisites for observers. Materials not included.

1600 Quilt RACE It's time to Jelly Roll Race!! Learn how to make the famous "1600 Quilt" and be the first one finished to win! Some pre-work is required, so pick up your materials list and instructions at least one day before the race to get ready. You may bring your own sewing machine for the race, if desired.

T-Shirt Quilt Workshop Part 1 Learn about what it takes to make a t-shirt quilt – materials needed, how to plan and design a layout, and how to properly cut and piece your t-shirts. Part 1 is lecture only.

EASY SCRAPPY 4 PATCH Using pre cut charm packs learn how to make quick and easy 4 patches, which can easily be made into 16 patches. Such a great technique to help ease other future patterns.

Hint Hint...a future large quilt pattern I will be teaching soon!! Will also show how to make this 16 patch into a fun scrappy star pattern with a snowball square. Prerequisite: Jump Start Quilting.

t-shirt quilt – materials needed, how to plan and design a layout, and how to properly cut and piece your t-shirts. Part 1 is lecture only.

WINE BOTTLE SLUMPING Join the “hottest” class on the schedule and see what everyone is talking about! Learn how your bottles become a fun and recycled bottle cheeseboard, spoon plate, or bowl.

Decorate to your liking. Bring in your clean, label removed, dry, empty bottle at least 1 week prior to class date. Some materials included.

GET YOUR BOTTLE SLUMPED! BRING YOUR CLEAN BOTTLES, WITH LABELS REMOVED, AND HAVE THEM SLUMPED FOR $2 PER BOTTLE! CHOOSE FROM A VARIETY OF MOLDS OR HAVE IT SLUMPED FLAT FOR THE CLASSIC LOOK.

METAL WORKING COIN / METAL JEWELRY Old coins, new coins-they are everywhere. As you travel collect a few spare coins and bring them to this class to create a memento coin bracelet!

CAKE DECORATING WILTON METHOD 1 Build buttercream skills you can use for all decorating projects - from cupcakes to cakes for any occasion. Whether you're new to decorating or have been decorating for years, when you complete Course 1, you'll be proud of the new techniques you've learned and ready to showcase them on your next project.

Your Wilton Method Certified Instructor will help you each step of the way

as you learn how easy it can be to: Ice and decorate a cake and other sweet treats Make six different buttercream icing flowers Pipe lines and make simple borders, letters and shapes on your cake. Transfer images to a cake to decorate. Make icing the right consistency to decorate. Fill and use a decorating bag. This class is required before you can take Wilton Method 2 or 3. Classes taken at other locations will be honored if you have your certificate.

WILTON METHOD 2 In Course 2, you will learn to work with royal icing as well as an intro to using fondant and gum paste. You will develop core skills to make many varieties of flowers, such as pansies, lilies and the Wilton Rose. You will learn how to design a cake, from selecting the colors to arranging your flowers. Your skilled Wilton Method Instructor will help you each step of the way as you learn to design the color palette and pattern for a cake, work with gum paste, fondant and royal icing, create nine different types of flowers, and how to feature them on your next project, pipe additional decorative borders onto your cake, and more exciting skills and techniques!

DIGITAL MEDIA GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CAMERA Are you looking to better understand that fancy camera someone gave you as a gift?

What does shutter speed mean? What is an aperture? To learn the basics of how to set up your camera, be it SLR or point-and-shoot, we can help you out. We not only teach how to move around in the menus, but also give you scenarios and let you practice right in the class. This basic photography class should have you up and running in no time.
