Refunds are available if a program is cancelled

by Sturgeon County or for medical reasons.

Participants may choose a full refund or account credit.

To withdraw from a program, please email programs@sturgeoncounty.ca. If the withdrawal request is received at least 10 business days before the program starts, a full refund or credit will be provided based on preference.

Requests received fewer than 10 business days before the program starts may not be eligible for a full refund or credit, unless due to medical reasons.

Early Childhood Programs Note: Children must be potty-trained to participate in early childhood programs. Please ensure your child brings a nut-free snack and indoor shoes.

All About Play This program uses theme-based play activities that support early childhood social development, communication and language skills, and awareness of self and the world. Children will begin to learn their shapes, colours, numbers and letters. This is an excellent program to get children socialized and used to a school-based setting.

Busy Bags

This session-based program uses free-play, games, stories, songs and crafts to stimulate children’s early development. Each week incorporates a theme of a letter and a number, and children begin to learn the concepts of letter and number recognition. This is an excellent program to assist children in developing independence and socialization skills needed for entering a school environment. Children should be old enough to enter Kindergarten the following year.

Looking for fresh stories or fun literacy-based activities for your child? Our early literacy Busy Bags are filled with books, games and hands-on activities designed to engage young minds. Available for a two-week loan, these themed kits cater to various age groups and provide hours of family fun.

Silly Sprouts We are partnering with the Families First Society to bring you this FREE, drop-in, facilitated program for caregivers and their children aged 0-6 years old. Join us for songs, rhymes, stories and playtime.

Back to school safety tips This back-to-school season, you can expect more traffic, buses, and children on the roads during their rush-hour commutes. As students return to the classroom, the Alberta RCMP reminds motorists of the importance of sharing our roadways responsibly.

For a passing grade in traffic safety, remember the following:

Stop when the school bus activates its alternately flashing red lights.

Traffic in both directions must stop and not pass. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to $567 and six demerits. It is not necessary to stop if the bus is on the other side of a divided highway.

Alternating flashing yellow or amber lights means a bus is slowing down to stop. Do the same.

Youth Programs RQB After School Youth Yoga

Hug-a-Tree and Survive

This is a fun introductory class for yoga. Please bring a mat (extras available) and a water bottle.

This Adventure Smart program teaches children survival skills for the outdoors, including what to do if they get lost. They will learn how to stay safe by staying in one place.

Pickup Location: Riviere Qui Barre (RQB) Community Classroom NOTE: Youth will meet at the Camilla School front entrance and walk over to the RQB community classroom.

Youth Takeover Join Sturgeon County and the Town of Morinville for an exciting Fall Break event, taking our partnership to the next level! Anyone under the age of 18 can enjoy FREE drop-in access to the Leisure Centre all day long, with a full day of FREE activities.

Lunch and snacks will be available, while supplies last.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Youth Leadership empowers youth to drive positive changes in their communities through volunteerism and teamwork. Participants gain valuable skills, engage in social activities and attend personal development sessions, building leadership skills for their resumes and scholarships. Meetings are held monthly, along with skillbuilding sessions and volunteer activities.

Personal Safety and Self Defense Seminar

This three-hour seminar is dedicated to addressing the safety risks and concerns young adults may face as they finish high school, enter post secondary and start their adult lives. This workshop will be part discussion and part physical technique.

Topics will include: how to recognize danger, understand and use intuition, manage fear, understand our rights and limits with regards to defending ourselves, and what options we have when encountering high-risk individuals. Physical techniques taught will include: how to protect yourself standing, escape and evade, maintain a healthy distance with ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ techniques, use objects on or around you to defend, block incoming strikes and deliver basic counter-strikes. This class is safe, fun and inclusive. These life skills will help keep you safe your whole life through—bring some friends and learn together!

Join us for a fun-filled evening of live music, dancing, and community connection. Bring the whole family for an evening of nostalgia and excitement as we mark 100 years of Namao Hall. Enjoy music from the 50s and beyond, a costume contest, and fun for all ages.

Get creative with icing, candies, sprinkles and more this holiday season as friends, families and neighbours come together to decorate gingerbread treats!

Family Learn to Pickleball Come out and learn the fastest-growing sport in North America, together as a family! Adult General Interest Fundamentals of Photography Join us for this inclusive workshop where we will learn what all those buttons on your camera do, basic ‘rules’ of composition, and more! The day begins with a classroom session led by Tim Osborne, who will share tips and tricks with the group. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Cardiff Park to apply our newfound skills, enjoying hands-on experience capturing photos. Please bring your own camera, smartphone (tablets are also welcome), and appetite—lunch will be provided!

Cozy Cup Creation | Mug Glazing Participants will learn the art of glazing and decorating their very own mugs, perfect for hot cocoa, coffee, or tea. Your creation will be taken back to Creative Cove to hangout in the kiln. After a few days, your unique and personalized mug will be ready for pick up at the Sturgeon County Family and Community Services Office.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day workshop designed to help family, friends and community members identify someone at risk of suicide and provide them with the skills needed to make a life-saving intervention.

The ASIST workshop is highly interactive, practical and practice-oriented. It focuses on teaching suicide first-aid to help a person at risk stay safe and seek further help. You do not need any formal training to attend the workshop.

This training is not recommended for anyone that has had a recent suicide loss.

This session will be focused on reconnecting you with your values, identity and purpose—guided by reflective exercises and self-awareness tools.

Fitness RQB 20/20/20

Barre in the Barre

Get the best of all worlds in this class. The first 20 minutes will be focused on cardio to warm up the body and get our heart rates going. The next 20 is strength training using full-body movements. Finish off the last 20 minutes with stretching to leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the week! Please bring a mat, towel and water bottle.

Barre is a dance style fitness class developed to create a long, lean, toned body using the ballet bar. This class incorporates bar work, Pilates-style core exercises, resistance training, endurance training and props to strengthen muscles.

Building Confidence in Everyday Conversations This interactive four-part workshop series is aimed at empowering women to communicate confidently and effectively in their daily interactions. The series will focus on developing four key communication skills: presence, articulation, rapport and assertiveness. Participants will learn how to express their thoughts and ideas clearly, handle challenging conversations, advocate for their needs and foster meaningful relationships with others.

RQB Hatha Yoga

Cardiff Core and More

This class will strengthen, stretch, tone and relax your entire body. Ideal for newcomers to yoga, this gentle class will offer modifications to help you get into the pose more easily. We encourage you to slow down and rest anytime you need to. The pace of this class will be slower, so you can focus on your alignment and breath. This class will leave you feeling refreshed, renewed and rejuvenated.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Shintaro Kono, will explore the science behind living well in later life with his presentation Aging Leisurely: What Science Tells Us About a Good Life.

We’ll also hear from consumer protection expert and fraud prevention educator Julie Matthews, who will share the latest scams targeting seniors and offer practical tips to help you stay safe. Topics will include: estate planning, lifelong learning, Men’s Shed, tradeshow with mini horses and more!

Living Well Program Living Well Living Well Counselling is a free service available to all residents of Sturgeon County.

Support is offered in person, over the phone, or within the community. Our Community Social Worker provides short-term, solution-focused sessions to help you navigate life’s challenges, such as stress, anxiety, relationship concerns, or everyday problems.

For more complex or ongoing needs, our Social Worker can also connect you with appropriate community referrals and resources. You don’t have to face life’s challenges alone—reach out today for support.

Outreach Program The Outreach Program is here to bring services and support directly to you and your community. Our team works alongside trusted local organizations—such as health services, victim services and community agencies—to ensure you and your family have the tools you need for health and wellness, mental health or addiction support, family resources, and connections to financial and safety programs. We can also assist with navigating government programs, including Income Support, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), pension applications and other benefit paperwork. If you or someone you know could use a hand, we’re here to meet you where you are.

Child and Adult Sponsorship Program Are you or your family in need of a little extra support this year? The Child and Adult Sponsorship Program provides eligible Sturgeon County residents with up to $175 per household member (with a cap for families), per year, to help cover the cost of recreation, wellness and community activities. This sponsorship is designed to make sure everyone—children, youth and adults—has the chance to participate, connect and thrive. To qualify, applicants must be Sturgeon County residents and financial verification is required.
