AFTER GRAD.

We’re proud Northerners. Frankly, we can’t think of anywhere else in the world more perfect to set some roots down, build a life and share experiences. Whether you’re working for the weekend, or looking to gain experience and find opportunity, what better place to call home than northern Ontario?

If the lush, boundless beauty of the boreal forests aren’t enough to stir some passion in your blood, the endless line of wonderful, friendly faces waiting to welcome you to your new home should. We know why we love the north, but here are a few reasons we think you’ll come to love the north too.

43

Northern College prides itself in offering the best possible education to our students through the latest in technology and experience based learning. We are firm believers that this combination produces successful, work ready graduates who are well equipped to step into meaningful career roles and find success quickly. But that isn’t just us saying it, we are proud to say that 85 per cent of our graduates find meaningful employment after receiving their certificate, diploma or bachelors. Those who are proud to say they employ our graduates report 89.5 per cent satisfaction rate with the quality of the job being done by those with a Northern College education. The online bursary application system is opened for student applications during the month of September and again in January. A listing of all bursaries available at Northern is featured on our website at northerncollege.ca/foundation.

STAY.

45

As Northerners we believe in a close-knit sense of community, an open door policy and an investment in our neighbours. Our wide array of student supports and large community presence means Northern College can serve as a gateway to success for our students. Life in northeastern Ontario is a unique experience that’s not only worth the trip, but worth staying for, either throughout your studies, or after graduation.

46

WORK.

Northern Ontario’s industry is changing, long time workers are retiring and the labour market is growing. You’re at the start of your academic journey, perfectly positioned to receive the education you’ll need to take on your roll in filling the North’s employment gap The Far Northeast Training Board conducted an expansive study of the labour market in Northeastern Ontario in 2015, projecting an annual employment gap of over 5,000 workers annually, with the majority of those job openings requiring a college level education.

47

LIVE. Northern College not only offers you the highest quality of education, but it also helps to establish your foot hold in the north, creating tangible pathways to meaningful employment within a region with a low cost of living and high quality of life. But what does that mean? Let us show you...

PLAY.

At Northern College, we believe there is beauty in balance. A busy semester of studies should be countered with a healthy dose of R&R. Now, we’re no doctors, but we do know how to have fun. Ontario’s northeast and our campus communities are packed full of ways to unwind, whether it’s a weekend spent in the great outdoors, or taking in some great live music, local culture and history.

49

50

GET NORTHERN.

There are endless reasons to seriously consider Northern College. We can do our best to shed a little light on why life in northeastern Ontario is worth the trip, but it truly is something you need to experience for yourself. Consider this a preview of the amazing things that are on offer to you if you choose to study, stay and play with us.

51

52

PLAY MORE.

PLAY OUTDOORS As Canadians, we pride ourselves in the vast beauty that is the Canadian experience, endless kilometres of lakes, rivers, forests and mountains, we love the idea of a life lived in postcard perfect nature. Well, consider this your ‘greetings from Northeastern Ontario’ moment because there are literally hundreds of reasons to get outside and get moving at Northern College. Besides being steps away from endless raw wilderness, our catchment region is home to 12 provincial parks, countless private campgrounds, endless crown land camping opportunities and millions of reasons to explore them all. Lakes and rivers are a common sight throughout our catchment region, providing plenty of opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and of course fishing, so grab a friend and whatever floatation device you’ve got handy and hit the water! PLAY INDOORS Northern College is all about activity. Whether it’s through your studies, hands-on learning opportunities or the extramural activities that make your post-secondary experience unique, we’ve got something to offer you. All of our campuses are located in communities with a healthy intramural sports environment, providing plenty of opportunities to get out and get moving year round. Northern College is happy to connect students with opportunities to stay active within the community, a healthy mind is directly connected to a healthy body and lifestyle.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU.

When you start planning and researching on what and where you may want to study, our Northern College recruitment team Kara and Sumit will most likely be your first contact with our college. You might see them at a high school presentation, an education fair, community event, who knows, maybe you’ll reach out to them first to get your questions answered. You may want to know about program availability, if it is highly competitive, what are the opportunities after graduation, when is the open house, can I attend a class before applying, and more. Whatever the question, whatever the request we can provide you with answers, connecting you to the right people, providing you with what you need to help make the best choice for you! We look forward to connecting, and seeing you at Northern.
