About

Yusi Yuansa is a Mix Media Collage artist who currently lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Through paper, scissor, and glue, she explores, connects, and defines a wide spectrum of emotion. Yusi applies her artistry as workshops, installations, and moving images.

For Yusi, her collage method is her own medium of self-healing. Her collages stand as a movement and a celebration of expression; a memento, inspired by the stories and experiences of her personal life.

What goes through your head when you walk in any park on earth while looking at the flowers?

When your body is exposed to sunlight, and let your body move around, are there any plants stretching out to cover the fence?

Or bowl plants and grasses? to the wild flowers that may not be familiar?

Apakah yang ada di kepalamu ketika berjalan kaki di taman manapun di bumi ini sambil lihat bebungaan?

ketika badanmu terpapar sinar matahari, dan biarkan tubuh gerak jalan, ada kah tanaman menjulur membelukar menutupi pagar?

atau tanaman mangkok dan rumput-rumputan? hingga bunga liar merekah yang mungkin tidak familiar?

juga hewan ternak atau peliharaan, yang kadang berkeliaran

this artwork is about flowers, and about so many thing outside us, whom so small in the eyes of this universe,

this is when we touch the grass, or while seeing small and large livestock, either bred or made friends with.

and this is about the happy celebrations and little pops between all the encounters that occur, while walking in the park.

Mystery of Her Teka-Tekinya

if my current ways can no longer carry me, i don't want to row in that boat any longer. I stand face-to-face with dark-yet kind storm clouds, smilin at me with secrets of splendor; and just like a song, I sing right at them with fierce ocean eyes, asking them to sway toward me––I want the change & the thirst & the mess & the surge & the growth & the freedom & the creativity––I want the alchemy of it all to charge at me like a dance with no shoes. We were never created for comfy.

jika cara ku saat ini tidak bisa lagi membawa ku, aku tidak ingin lagi mendayung di perahu itu. Aku berdiri berhadap-hadapan dengan awan badai yang gelap namun ramah, tersenyum padaku dengan rahasia kemegahan; dan seperti sebuah lagu, aku bernyanyi untuk mereka dengan mata samudra yang tajam, meminta mereka untuk bergoyang ke arah ku––dan aku ingin perubahan & kekacauan & gelombang & pertumbuhan & kebebasan & segala hal hal lainnya ––untuk menyerangku seperti tarian tanpa sepatu. The connection and correlation that we make internally and externally as humans, oftenly undescribable. Especially into words. Life is so grand and humble at the same time. I am interested in geting to know and dive into the paradoxes of reflections of people feelings through collage.

So many non-optimal condition give me the urge to keep practicing collage as an art. I guess it is what keeps me alive many times, to keep redifining feelings, even the most frustrating one.
