Presented by The LA Art Box, the pop-up exhibition will feature the work of JEFRË, an artist whose large-scale artwork has been installed around the world and an artist whose work was recently featured at the Orlando Museum of Art The LAAB will showcase JEFRË’s captivating larger than life multimedia sculptures and installations constructed at a human scale from his recent “Points of Connection” show at Orlando Museum of Art. Maquettes of monumental public works introduce the audience to the artist’s past projects, alongside a series of sculptures which exemplify his current studio practice. .

Visitors will journey through the exhibition, guided by the stanzas of JEFRË’s poem Heart to Heart, as they interact with immersive installations, which explore the artist's immigrant identity, his history with heart disease and through the integration of technology, illuminate common humanity across age, gender, ethnicity, and nationality. JEFRË introduces his new work called “Branded” inspired by visions of the American dream, social status and consumerism. The exhibition also features Soundscapes presented by Grammy Award winning artist AYO The Producer and media support from Monster XP. JEFRË (born Jefre Figueras Manuel in 1972, Chicago, IL) is a Filipino-American artist currently residing in Central Florida. He has created numerous site-specific artworks in major cities around the world including "Reflection" (2010) in Philadelphia's Unity Plaza, "The Beacon" and "Code Wall" (2014) in Orlando and "Heaven’s Gate" (2019) in Manila. He is currently working on a 24-story high standing figure with arm raised, titled "The Victor." Located at a bridge connecting the cities of Pasig and Quezon in the Philippines, the sculpture is expected to be completed in 2020 and will be one of the world’s tallest artworks.

BAKS SERIES The Baks Series, named for the phonetic pronunciation of the word “box” in American English, represents the culture and identity of the people of the city. For the artist, people are literally and figuratively the building blocks of a city and by converting heads to blocks, JEFRË connects the figures to urban architecture. The heads have also become an iconic form within JEFRË’s work that establishes the figures as symbolic expressions. The poses and gestures of each figure are drawn from popular culture and convey the underlying emotional and spiritual meaning of each work. The contours of his figures are delineated by a system of representation called “low poly." Points are established across the figure’s body and are then connected by polyhedrons that create complex three-dimensional planes. It is another way in which JEFRË draws elements familiar in popular culture to create symbolic forms of expression. When all the Baks emotions are assembled together on a horizon line , its what the Artist believes makes a great skyline and cultured city.

ONE LOVE Two figures sit in Lotus position, an ancient spiritual pose intended to connect the body to the universe’s life force or chi. The figures sit back-to-back, one female and one male, transferring the energy of peace and love to one another and to the viewers who enters the gallery. Each make a gesture with their hands meaning heart.

JEFRË’s iconic block head becomes a space onto which visitors can project their own features and for a moment to become part of the work and its expression of our shared humanity.

Using the technique of Cartography, JEFRË recreates environments, land formations and city grids with repurpose material.
