Monsoon comes every year, and with it the concerns of SPA. The lack of water absorption and leveling of the infamous ITO Ring Road brings high chance of flood in architecture block. This year the extent of flood went par Archi block due to the river Yamuna overflowing and the river water traveling downwards leading to backflow of storm water drainage too.

Key areas effected were Indraprasta Metro, IP depot, ITO and Vikas Marg.

Ingredients: 19 Industrial Design enthusiasts chose one scenario from their day-today activities, experiences and headed towards creating a module which provided a practical solution with a working model as their final year project. The Exhibition had 19 product displays, along with their previous works in the panels. The products at display include one that is for Qawwali music lovers which gives the experience through the seating Sama and can also take care of cats at the time of vet visits which makes the cat feel comfortable and reduces injury risk.

Almost every product is sustainable some or the other way such as Pure Water is a boat which cleans all the floating debris in the local water bodies.

Kala Ghoda Association was formed with the idea of giving back the city, giving life to the biggest street art festival that India has - Kala Ghoda Art Festival. It is country’s largest multicultural festival, taking place in February every year. The festival draws visitors in large numbers, not just from the city, but from all over the country, and the world. A team from SPA comprising of faculties and students had the chance to design an exhbit which they tiled ‘City, Caged’.

Hostel Management Comittee: The representative group which tackles the problems occuring in Mahrani Bagh and ITO hostel, as well as the allotment process of both hostels. As of seven sem’23 there are two HMC members in ITO hostel and three in Mahrani Bagh hostel. Comprising of students from both UG and PG departments.

Student Council: The representative body for the students of SPA Delhi.

Their responsibility is to take up any student related issues and suggest new changes that are best fitted for the welfare and empowerment of the students. The student consist of the Executive Council, Undergraduate Council and Post Graduate Council.

It is a faculty squad which monitors & takes action against students who indulge in ragging.

Students from every semester are chosen as representatives that the students can approach.

Over the next five and ten years, NASA India has already begun enhancing its brand and visibility by participating in international programs. Additionally, by virtue of members of HQ, the association is also working towards providing scholarships and grantsv to its members to help them with their education and research. As for where I see NASA India and HQ after my tenure, it is difficult to predict the future. However, with dedicated and passionate young minds at the helm, the headquarters is wellpositioned to continue to grow and thrive. The contributions made by the junior batches have undoubtedly helped to shape the association and set it on a positive trajectory for the future.

As my tenure comes to an end, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and best wishes to the future councils of NASA India. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as National Secretary and National Treasurer, and I am grateful for the experiences and friendships that I have gained along the way.

So.... what is NOSPlan?

T

he history of NOSPlan Organization of Students of Planning can be traced back to 1993, when SPA Delhi revived the then-dormant idea of a forum for students of planning colleges across the country to meet and discuss ideas. The first NOSPlan Annual Convention was held in 1998

by CEPT, Ahmedabad. The recent 2023 Convention ‘CIVITAS’ was held in February, organised by LPU in Phagwara, Punjab.

Working on the Mohammad trophy was an experience that was very different from anything we have done in other competitions, or in academics before. We have always come across landscape development in conjunction with a built form, and to approach it as a separate design was a novelty for us. Accessible design for public spaces opened up the possibility for us to study certain common disabilities in depth, to understand the issues faced by people suffering from them. Having to design purely with the purpose of universal access helped us develop new ways of thinking and innovative strategies for tackling these issues in the landscape context.

It was a beautiful experience, and being shortlisted for this meant the world to us.

We proposed an Anganwadi and a creative learning space to weave the community and cultural fabric. Gharaunda village - a densely packed community grounded to its roots, facilitated the demand for a common space for the locals to gather and interact with each other as well as the Sarai. This ambition of proposing a vibrant and multipurpose space intervention embarked a journey of two months of rigorous efforts from the LIK team.

Architecture is not just about creating buildings, but also about creating meaning and impact for the society and the environment.

What does it take to design a solution with a historical context that has lost its place in society? How can architecture revive the cultural and social importance of such spaces? These were some of the questions that motivated us to participate in the annual nasa design competition (andc).

The brief of the competition challenged us to select a site that had a rich historical significance but was facing threats due to various factors. We chose the site of hauz qazi chowk, a bustling market area in old delhi that had a history dating back to the mughal era.

Our design intervention aimed to preserve the heritage and identity of the place while improving the infrastructure and livability for the people. We had to visit the site four times for surveys and measurements.

There we did extensive research and analysis, brainstorm and sketched various concepts, used different tools and methods to create drawings, models, renderings and details, and worked tirelessly on the final sheets and report. We also faced many challenges such as finding a dedicated team, coordinating and communicating with seniors and peers, managing time and resources and ensuring quality and consistency. We also had many opportunities and learnings. We were inspired by the stories and culture of the place, we collaborated with some stakeholders and experts, we explored innovative and sustainable solutions, we received valuable feedback and guidance, and we developed our skills and confidence as architecture students. We were ecstatic when we found out that we were among the top 50 entries in the competition. Although we did not win the trophy, we felt proud of our achievement and grateful for our experience. We realized that architecture is not just about creating buildings, but also about creating meaning and impact for the society and the environment.

This competition was a journey of design and discovery for us. It taught us a lot about ourselves, our team, our profession, and our world. It was an unforgettable experience that will stay with us forever. ~Chirag Agarwal

The experience was enlightening. The topic was to write a sarcastic writeup on the importance of public spaces in community building. Although the piece was short, we had a lot of fun writing it. We sent in an abstract of the paper and got shortlisted. The achievement is a small one, we got the chance to attend ANC; It was worth a shot, we didn’t win the competition but the exposure and the experience we got at ANC was validating enough. We now believe we have the potential and can do a lot better next time. We are not one for letting things go to our head, but this competition has changed something within us. Although the piece was short, we had a lot of fun writing it.

The Battle of Bands or B.O.B has been one of the many cultural trophies at The Annual NASA Convention. But this year there was a slight change with redefining it as the “Performing Arts Fusion trophy” with the addition of the performers too i.e. The storyline of the performance should flow through the ‘Live Music and Band’ and be expressed by the performers through dance and acting. This year SPA Delhi got qualified in the first round of jury and finally performed at the 65th ANC The whole BOB team had been preparing DESCRIPTION: PRACTICE SESSION FOR BATTLE OF for weeks and weeks.

We aimed to perfect the performance and to create and impact on the stage. The competition was fierce, with each band delivering their best, showcasing their unique styles and musical prowess. Although SPA Delhi didn’t win the trophy, the whole unit felt proud of our performance and the journey undertaken together.

The event provided everyone with valuable exposure, and opportunity to network with fellow musicians and the chance to learn from their experiences which will always be cherished.

THE BANDS PERFORMANCE.

HUD “ CO “ ANC HUDCO was a life-altering experience that was challenging in ways I never anticipated. This trophy that we took up was a grueling test of physical and mental aptitude. I joined the HUDCO team on the very last moment and so did many of us. Coherent with our academic schedules, it presented a myriad of challenges; physical work and the demanding nature of the tasks pushed us to tap into reserves of determination and tenacity we never knew existed.

As part of a team, it was an opportunity to collaborate with fellow juniors and seniors who brought diverse skills, experiences, and ideas to the table. This transformative experience not only unleashed untapped potentials, but also left an indelible mark on personal growths.

ANC (Annual NASA Convention) was a really fun and unique experience. It’s a great platform for a student to gain exposure and get to interact with many professionals, students from other colleges and even those from your own college who you didn’t get to know that well earlier. The mornings were usually spent attending workshops and seminars on multiple interesting topics which related to architecture, technology, arts and crafts, etc.

You learn while interacting with the professionals and people from other colleges. I had attended the paper cutting workshop and integrity workshop where I got to meet people from other corners of India. Our college alumni also teach at the workshops.

After the sun goes down, the fun begins you find multiple colleges playing at every corner. It’s a great bonding experience for everyone and hope to get to more people the next convention.

The exceptional execution ensures that the idea is conveyed simply and straightforwardly, reaching everyone effortlessly. This comprehension by the jury was instrumental, and as a team, we never focused on the prize pool.

Winning it came as a delightful surprise, filling us all with immense happiness.

6th April The first day of Utopia 2023. The celebrations started off as usual with an Inmotion screening in the auditorium. What followed was a highly anticipated talk by Ms. Roohan Segel, ‘Beyond Swipe Right’, which aimed at discussing how to navigate healthy relationships in the era of dating. The OAT came alive with myriad shades of characters through Spandan’s production, followed by waves of laughter inflicted upon the audience by popular stand up comedians, Devesh Dixit and Priyam Pandey.

The Rooh band followed suit with engaging performaces that went beyond the Utopia’s theme, but the intented mystical melodies of ethereal was brought back by Sankalp and Coda.

7th April The second day of Utopia dawned early, with ‘VeloceRide with Speed’ where the two societies, Spokes and Sepia collaborated to explore the unknown niches of Lodhi Garden.

Another Inmotion Screening was held in the auditorium, that was followed by Cyborn’s gaming geeks. The adrenalin rush from the active day was slowed by beautiful poetry and storytelling of Muse. The audience then shuffled over to the Volleyball Court for Mudra’s awaited Flash mob. The indie band, ‘Dream Note’, was called upon to continue the momentum and energetic vibe of the audience with their melodious flute notes and performance that added an ethereal touch to the night. It was certainly one of the most sublime moments of Utopia 2023. The crowd returned home with tunes of ‘The Pancham Rhapsody’ (production of Sankalp-Coda) resonating in their minds.

8th April The final day arrives compared to the other days, the last day of Utopia was tinted with more colours, festivities, heartfelt conversations and tinkling of glasses. The planning block stage was adorned creatively adhering to this year’s theme ‘Ethereal’. Zephyr commenced its Fashion Show with the usual pomp and grandeur. What followed was Mudra’s show- the performances were power packed and kept the crowd cheering the whole time. Some performers gleamed with sheer handwork while some with their inherent charisma.

As the preparations began, students designed and constructed a magnificent bonfire pit in the courtyard adorned with intricate patterns and motifs in the mess lobby and ground floor corridor.

Each student contributed their unique ideas, capturing the essence of Lohri.

The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as everyone chipped in, helping with decorations embraced by paper kites, organizing bhangra and gidha performances, and arranging an array of delectable festive treats.

Accompanied by the soft tunes of Soft Coda, the celebrations begin the night before with the burning of the Holika Dahan, the bonfire of righteousness- at the center of the courtyard. Holi began in earnest on the morning with an outburst of delight as buckets of water were spilled in the midst of a splurge of radiant colors. Current students and alumnis gathered to celebrate one of the most anticipated and joyous holidays of the year.

The vivid colors in the air brought in a lot of positivity making a vibrant and exhilarating atmosphere. There is no holding back during Holi at SPA, as one cannot beat the enthusiasm and energy of the dance numbers. Bura na maano, Holi hai!

Lanterns cast a warm glow over the MB hostel as Eid celebrations began. The corridors, the mess lobby, courtyard and the balconies were all decorated with beautiful lanterns. An elegant majlis was made in the mess lobby and its walls were adorned with Urdu calligraphy.

The stage was set for the evening as the mushaira took place, where the poets mesmerized all with their heartfelt verses. The feast began as plates were filled with biryani accompanied with shahi tukda and rooh afza. Everyone sat down to savour the delicious food and enjoy the occasion.

‘Shubho Nobo Borsho!’ went up the cry as the revelers in beautiful saris and kurtas lounged outside the mess, with the walls now richly decorated with elegant posters of Bengali films. However, the star acts were the beautiful wall paintings depicting Kolkata and Maa Kali. Hung up from above was a bright red fabric ceiling with gorgeous painted boats gracefully suspended below.

A small ceremony was held in the first floor corridors in front of a beautifully decorated shrine to Shri Krishna to represent the arrival of the New Year at dawn. Visitors were brought inside with their eyes closed so that the auspicious sight of god would be their first glimpse of the New Year.

The shrine itself was resplendently surrounded by an assortment of fruits and vegetables, symbolizing the arrival of the season of harvest and plenty. All gathered around were served some delicious payasam, as is tradition.

Outside in the courtyard, diners awaited a scrumptious traditional Bengali meal as they enjoyed the various songs and dances of Bengal and Assam, such as the famous Dhunuchi-nach. The beautifullylit red and white backdrop lent a wonderful setting to the celebrations of joy at the start of the New Year.

The rich cultural heritage of the Telugus come to life at the night of Ugadi, Telagu New Year- bringing smiles on each and every face with their beautiful installations, their traditional dances, and of course who can forget their mouth-watering dishes.

Perhaps the most amazing part of the night was the food enjoyed over the Natu Natu challenges, and especially the beautiful performance on ‘Tune Maari Entriyaan’ by talented performers.

The students commemorated the event by taking photos with the celebrity mannequins in dramatic fashion, with boys wearing mundus, and girls with beautiful colourful sarees.

MNIT 2023 TRAVELLING DAY: This semester’s major Sports event was the Malviya Sports Tournament (MST’23), hosted by MNIT Jaipur, from 23rd - 25th March 2023.

The sports events planned for the tournament included many sports: Cricket (Men), Football (Men), Badminton (Men & Women), Volleyball (Men & Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Table Tennis (Men & Women), Chess (Men & Women), Kabaddi (Men & Women), Tennis (Men & Women), Weightlifting (Men), Powerlifting (Men) & Best Physique (Men).

The 125 students participating were filled with excitement and determination, giving their all to prepare themselves fully for the upcoming event. Dr. Shuvojit Sarkar and Dharmendra Dhakkad accompanied the students to this event.

DAY 1: A total of 24 colleges had participated, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Our players gave their best in every event they participated in, creating a wave of orange in the sports of kabaddi, cricket, chess, badminton, basketball, tennis and weightlifting.

DAY 2: Fueled by our outstanding performance on the first day, we geared up for the second day with even more support in tow. Those who didn’t advance in their events on the previous day joined us in cheering and motivating the players. Day two brought us a mix of success and minor setbacks. While there was an incident on the Kabaddi field that we’d rather forget, overall, it was a fantastic day of competition.

DAY 3: The highlight of the day was the thrilling football finals between SPA Delhi and NIT Delhi and the atmosphere was electric. Despite a close match, the final score favored NIT Delhi with a 2-1 victory. While we may not have clinched the gold, it was undoubtedly the most memorable moment of the tournament.

Fuzzball remains one of the most anticipated football event in our college. And after a series of cheering and countless matches, the finals was the one to behold

The crowd erupted in applause, cheering on the players who had battled through injuries, fevers, bruises, and pain, surpassing all expectations. It was a proud and beautiful moment CONCLUSION: After the event, the Director, the Dean & the Sports Officer, acknowledged our success with their happiness The MNIT Event was truly unforgettable for our college.

Despite having our academic running parallel and facing competition from national-level institutions and athletes, our players exceeded expectations and showcased incredible determination. We secured an impressive tally of 5 trophies, including 3 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. It was a remarkable display of our amazing efforts and hard work.

After a long break, the Badminton Premier League Season 4 returned with fresh excitement and anticipation in the students and MB Hostelers.

Electrifying rallies, thrill of smashes and finesse of drop shots lit up the Tournament this semester. Conducting this tournament was initially a challenge because of the lack of resources, but new rule book with an interesting rule of trump match was followed, which states: In a tie (Team A Vs Team B), each team will choose one match to be a Trump Match. If the match picked by a team as the Trump Match is won, then it contributes +2 points to the match tie score. If the Trump Match is lost, then -1 point is deducted from that team’s overall match tie score.

AUCTION: A total of 7 teams registered, namely House of the smashers, Gang leaders, Master Shuttlers, Ctrl X, Tandoori Knights, Alpha Squad, and Udan Chhu. Every team had chosen their Player manager worth 3000 credits out of 15000 credits which were awarded to each team for the Auction . The most expensive buy was Samhita SK (Master Shuttlers) for 5600 credits and in Men’s the most expensive buy was Joseph (Alpha Squad) for 5000 credits.

LEAGUE STAGE: It had a round-robin format where every team faced each other once, whereas the play-offs stage had 4 matches Qualifier1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Finals. Every Tie match had 4 matches: Man Singles, Woman Singles, Men Doubles and Mixed Doubles. After the League stage Gang leaders Finished 1st with 30 points just above House of the Smashers (29 points) which was leading in the most part of the tournament.

Master Shuttlers and Ctrl X were the other two teams qualifying for the play-offs stage. Alpha Squad finished last, interestingly it was the only team to beat both the top two teams of the table.

FINAL BADMINTON

PLAY-OFFS: It began with a bang with House of the smashers sealing the finals spot by beating Gang leaders in Qualifier 1. The Eliminator was the closest match of the tournament as both had same match points even with set difference 0.

Finally on Points difference Master Shuttlers won by 3 points beating Ctrl X. Gang leaders defeated Spirited Master Shuttlers but lost on set difference of 1. The Final Clash was again between the 2 most Successful teams of the tournament. After a Long Fight House the Smashers had the last laugh.

The Courtyard Premier League (CPL) and its unique blend of top-tier Alumni, Staff, Faculty players, and young current talent, promised another exciting edition filled with thrilling matches, exceptional performances, and moments of cricketing brilliance. With the introduction of the DRS rule, the return to the Courtyard, and the continued tactical evolution, CPL-9 was a season unlike any other.

CPL-9 witnessed an expansion as three new teams joined the league, taking the total number of franchises to eight. The new entrants were the Middle Stumpers, In Swingers, and the Courtyard Crushers. Screen set, lights dimmed and tables arranged at the Maharani Bagh hostel. The auction was inaugurated in the mess lobby which was abuzz with the expectant audience. The CPL was officially introduced to everyone. A total of 108 players went under the hammer.
