PUBLISHER’S NOTE
October is here, and I’ve got to say, it’s one of my favorite times of the year! I couldn’t help but smile as I sat down to write this because all the best things come to mind: cool, crisp air, cozy sweaters (maybe closer to November), pumpkin patches, jack-o-lanterns, and yes, sneaking a piece (or three) of Halloween candy. Whether it’s bonfires, hayrides, or just enjoying the changing scenery, it’s a season that never fails to bring joy.
But amidst all this autumn fun, I’d like to pause and recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day, celebrated on the second Monday in October. It’s a day that reminds us to honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Native Americans. Personally, it’s a time of reflection and gratitude
Your support and feedback keep us going, and every issue we put out is a team effort, fueled by your input and enthusiasm. We’re so glad to be on this journey with you!
So, as October rolls on, I hope you soak up all the simple pleasures of the season. Enjoy that warm mug of cider, a cozy evening by the fire, or whatever makes your heart happy. The holidays are right around the corner, and there’s

A TAIL OF THREE DOODLES: DARCEY, CHARLEY, AND OAKLEY
F or Craig and Katherine Reid, Southbridge isn’t just a neighborhood; it’s a sanctuary where their trio of doodles—Darcey, Charley, and Oakley—rule the roost.
The Reids, who moved from Lake Oconee, have called Southbridge home for over four years, love the area’s unique architecture, lush landscaping, and the comforting sight of neighbors out for strolls. But it’s their beloved dogs that truly make their house a home.
Darcey, the 5-year-old Aussiedoodle who started Craig and Katherine’s doodle dynasty, entered their lives in a special way—they were there on the very day she was born. As the runt of her litter, she faced a tough start and was almost overlooked, but fate had other plans. Darcey was the last puppy left, and the Reids couldn’t resist her charm. She’s a sweet, obedient introvert with a neverending love for treats, content with quiet moments and the occasional squirrel chase.
Charley, a 3-year-old Goldendoodle, joined the family in 2021 as Darcey’s half-sister, sharing the same mother. Charley stands out with her emotional intelligence and a heart of gold. She’s not swayed by treats like her sisters; instead, her loyalty lies firmly with Katherine. She’s often found lounging outside, soaking up the sun in the yard or during downtown adventures.
Then there’s Oakley, the youngest at 2 years old, who brings a playful spark to the trio. Her name is a clever play on “okay,” reflecting Craig’s initial “no” when adopting her—a decision he quickly overturned. Oakley is the witty one, always ready for fun and full of energy. She’s the only one of the three who braves the pool with the family, chasing tennis balls and adding a splash of excitement to their lives.
Each doodle has her quirks—Darcey’s all about those treats, Charley’s emphatic yawns could wake the dead, and Oakley’s spunk keeps everyone on their toes. Together, they

form a perfect pack, bringing joy and a sense of adventure wherever they go. Whether cruising through Southbridge with the windows down or soaking up the sights at Plant Riverside, these pups are always up for an outing. They’re frequent visitors to Woof Gang downtown for toys and treats, and Oakley even managed to make it on WTOC during last year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations!
For Craig and Katherine, life in Southbridge wouldn’t be complete without their doodle dynasty. Their furry friends have filled their home with laughter, love, and plenty of wagging tails, proving that sometimes, the best companions are the ones with four legs and a heart full of love.

Christina’s Healing Hands
Therapeutic services with a client-centered approach
This month, we shine the spotlight on Christina Harley, a dedicated local business owner who has played a significant role in supporting Stroll Southbridge. Christina Harley, owner of Christina’s Healing Hands Massage Therapy, is a passionate professional committed to improving the wellbeing of her clients through therapeutic touch.
A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO HELPING OTHERS
Born and raised in Savannah, Christina’s roots run deep in the local community, with connections in Pooler and Hinesville, GA. A proud Beach High Bulldog and a graduate of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, Christina went on to earn a business administration degree before finding her true calling in massage therapy. In 2013, she became a licensed massage therapist, initially envisioning it as a backup plan to her career in import/export customs brokerage. However, her passion for helping others led her to embrace massage therapy full-time, describing it as her destiny to be an “assisted healer to humankind.”
A UNIQUE APPROACH TO MASSAGE THERAPY
Christina’s Healing Hands Massage Therapy offers a range of therapeutic services tailored to the unique needs of each client. At Christina’s practice, you can find caring therapeutic touch with specialties including Bamboo-Fusion, Deep Tissue/Swedish, and care techniques that aid in pain management. The focus is not just on performing techniques but on genuinely listening to clients and understanding their individual needs to help them feel better in their bodies. This
client-centered approach, coupled with her commitment to caring for her staff, sets Christina’s Healing Hands apart from the rest. It’s no wonder that Christina was voted the Best of Pooler 2024, a testament to her dedication and exceptional service to the community.
“Our clients are the heartbeat of our business,” Christina shares, emphasizing the importance of creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels heard and cared for. This philosophy extends to her team as well, ensuring that both clients and staff are supported and valued.
As someone who has personally experienced Christina’s services, Melissa Strudgeon, owner of Stroll Southbridge, can attest to Christina’s exceptional ability to make clients feel truly comfortable and cared for. Even Melissa’s father travels from Claxton specifically to see Christina, drawn by her remarkable talent for listening and ensuring that each session addresses exactly what the client needs. Clients often leave feeling rejuvenated and significantly better than when they arrived, a testament to Christina’s dedication to truly understanding and meeting the needs of each individual.
CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY
Christina is deeply involved in the local community, actively participating in organizations such as the Pooler Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Chamber, Greater Savannah Black Chamber, Divine Rest, and Habitat for Humanity. Her business also collaborates with various other local entities, always seeking new ways to integrate their services to better serve the Coastal Empire. Christina’s dedication to
community engagement highlights her commitment not only to her clients but to the broader community as well.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND LOOKING AHEAD
Like many businesses, Christina’s Healing Hands Massage Therapy has faced its share of challenges. However, Christina’s approach has always been to “overcome them one step at a time” and to never compare her journey with others. This resilience has fostered growth and allowed her business to thrive in a competitive industry.
Looking to the future, Christina has big plans for expansion, including increasing outcall services and supporting corporate wellness initiatives. While she remains tight-lipped about specific upcoming projects, she encourages the community to stay connected via her social media and website for updates on exciting developments.
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE COMMUNITY
Drawing from her professional experience, Christina offers invaluable advice to Southbridge residents: “Your mental, physical, and spiritual health are worth a lot. Take time to connect spiritually, stay grounded in the present moment, and be grateful for the small things. Remember to care for your body—it’s the only one you get this lifetime. And don’t forget about your heart health—get it checked.”

TheO’Rear Family
A Blend of Adventure, Family, and Community Spirit
BY COURTNEY O’REAR
PHOTOS: LISA HOOVER PHOTOGRAPHY
Nestled in the heart of Southbridge, the O’Rear family has created a home that embodies warmth, love, and an adventurous spirit. Courtney and Casey O’Rear, along with their children and grandson, have seamlessly blended their unique backgrounds, passions, and talents to become an integral part of the Southbridge community.
Courtney O’Rear, 46, grew up in the rolling hills of the Talledega National Forest in central Alabama on a piece of land purchased by her great-great-grandfather. For most of her life, she never strayed far from her family’s farm, until Savannah called to her in 2013. Drawn to Savannah’s charm—its rich history, Southern hospitality, and stunning architecture—Courtney found herself falling in love with the area, much like her husband, Casey.
Casey O’Rear, 50, originally hails from San Diego, California. His journey to Savannah was one of exploration and adventure. He lived in multiple states, including Montana, Colorado, Hawaii, and Missouri, before settling down in Savannah in 2007. A competitive swimmer who attended Georgia Southern University, Casey initially fell in love with the Savannah area during his college years. His connection to nature and a career that took him across the
country eventually brought him back to Savannah, where he would soon meet Courtney.
In a serendipitous twist, the couple’s love story began as competitors in the pharmaceutical sales industry. Casey and Courtney met when she mistakenly took over his appointment time! Their paths continued to cross in their careers, and after a few chance encounters and a thankyou lunch, they began dating. Two years later, in 2021, they celebrated a whirlwind wedding day. In classic O’Rear fashion, their wedding was anything but ordinary. After closing on their home in Southbridge just hours before their ceremony, Courtney handed over all the planning to Casey. True to his spontaneous nature, he picked up a pink shirt covered in bananas, borrowed a wedding ring from Levy Jewelers, and exchanged vows with Courtney on the beach at Tybee Island. It was the perfect reflection of their unique personalities—Courtney, the planner, and Casey, the free spirit.
The O’Rear family is as lively as their love story. Courtney’s 26-year-old son, Michael McRee, moved to Savannah during high school and now owns New Age Restoration, a successful renovation business. Michael’s
talents are evident throughout Southbridge, especially at the Grand Lake Club, where he’s completed several projects. His pride and joy, however, is his almost 3-year-old son, Christopher, who has quickly become the heart of the family. Christopher is adored by everyone, especially during visits to Southbridge where he rides in golf carts, plays with his
grandparents’ three dogs, and splashes around in the Grand Lake Club’s pool. Casey’s children, Grayson, 13, and Brooklyn, 10, bring their own energy to the household. Grayson, an eighth-grader at the STEM Academy at Bartlett, plays soccer for Savannah United and his middle school team. Known for his outgoing and encouraging nature, Grayson was recently selected as the school mascot, a role that fits him perfectly. Brooklyn, a fifth-grade honor student at May Howard Elementary, is a soccer player, creative writer, and singer. She has a vibrant personality, loves spending time with friends, and is always on the lookout for new ways to express her creativity.
Rounding out the family are their three beloved rescue dogs—Charlie, Ace, and Brownie. Charlie, an 11-year-old malti-poo, runs the household with military precision, ensuring everyone sticks to his feeding and bedtime schedules. Ace, a 10-year-old miniature labradoodle, is Christopher’s shadow, never straying far from his side during visits. And Brownie, a sweet and calm 9-year-old chocolate lab mix, is the family’s gentle protector, keeping a close eye on the yard and any wildlife that might venture too close.

Casey and Courtney O’Rear and their three rescue pups, Brownie, Ace, and Charlie
Holidays are all about family, friends, great food and lots of decorating. Left to Right: Grayson, Casey, Brooklyn, Courtney, Michael, Christopher and Kaycie.
Courtney and Casey’s careers reflect their diverse talents and adventurous spirits. After earning a degree in Biology from the University of Montevallo, Courtney initially pursued a career in research. However, she quickly realized that lab life wasn’t for her. A friend encouraged her to transition into pharmaceutical sales, and she spent 16 years at Boehringer Ingelheim before moving on to other roles in the industry. Now, she works as a Key Account Manager for Amgen, a biotech company, in their Rare Disease Division. Casey’s journey was a bit more unconventional. After graduating from Georgia Southern with a degree in Environmental Science, he spent time working in ski resorts, leading ocean kayak tours in Hawaii, and even making wine in California. His love for wine led him to become a sommelier and a wine educator, but he eventually transitioned into medical sales, where he now works for MG Newell, designing sanitary production systems for industries such as food, beverage, and pharmaceuticals.
Despite their busy careers, the couple remains deeply involved in the Southbridge community, particularly at the Grand Lake Club. Since 2022, Courtney has served as the club’s Operations Manager, working alongside her family to organize events and revitalize the club for residents. Casey has also contributed his expertise, helping with bar renovations and planning future wine tastings for fellow wine enthusiasts.
When it comes to holidays, the O’Rears go all out. Fall is their favorite time of year, as it marks the start of college football and the holiday season. With Courtney cheering for Alabama and Casey rooting for Georgia, game days are a spirited affair filled with friendly rivalry and delicious tailgating food. Halloween is also a major event in their household, with inflatables and kid-friendly decorations taking over the yard. Their home attracts trick-or-treaters from all over the neighborhood, offering a fun and colorful backdrop for photos.
As soon as Halloween is over, the family shifts gears to prepare for Christmas. With five full-sized trees and garlands galore, decorating their home is a family project that requires everyone’s help. Weekends in November and December are filled with football, Christmas movie marathons, baking holiday treats, and getting the house ready for the holiday season.
For the O’Rear family, Southbridge is more than just a neighborhood—it’s a community that feels like family. One of their proudest moments as Southbridge residents was last summer when the community came together to clean up and reopen the Grand Lake Club’s pool. Volunteers from all walks of life showed up to lend a hand, working tirelessly in the summer heat to restore the pool area for everyone to enjoy. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork left a lasting impression on Courtney and Casey, solidifying their belief that Southbridge is a special place to call home.
When they’re not volunteering or organizing events at the Grand Lake Club, the O’Rear family loves spending time at Tybee Island and Hilton Head, exploring downtown Savannah, and attending Savannah Bananas games. Their favorite dining spots include Common Thread for fine dining and Bull Street Tacos for a casual night out.
As they continue to build their life in Southbridge, the O’Rears look forward to making even more memories with their friends and neighbors. With their shared love for adventure, family, and community, they are excited about the years ahead and the opportunities to foster even deeper connections within the neighborhood.
The O’Rear family’s journey is a beautiful testament to the magic of Southbridge. With their lively household, community involvement, and passion for life, they exemplify what it means to be part of this special community.
