GRIMEY James & Helen sitting in a tree - K-I-S-S-ING

D

id we witness the start of a new showbiz romance? As seen on Nick Grimshaw’s panel show ‘Sweat the small stuff’ broadcast on BBC Three, James Arthur and Helen Flanagan not only flirted with on another the whole show but he even asked for her phone number, while Helen tracked down James in his dressing room. As Nick, the host picked up on the chemistry between the pair he teased James by saying ‘You told our researchers that Helen Flanagan is your dream woman

didn’t you? he went embarrassed but didn’t deny the claims just replied with ‘That researcher told he she wasn’t going to say anything. But even though that was said Helen seemed more than pleased with the attention telling the X factor champ that’s ‘James I’m so flattered, genuinely’ Although there were a lot of flirty looks between them the whole show, this X factor playboy has been rumoured to be in a romance with a few stars at the moment for example Lacey Banghard, Rita Ora and Caroline Flack. As we are aware not any of the rumours are true as Rita has confirmed she is happily in a relationship with none other than Calvin Harris. My question is, was it genuine or just to improve their careers? All we can do now is watch this space...

W

hilst filming for his latest film ‘NightCrawler’ Jake was rushed to hospital after sustaining an injury on set. The actor cut his hand after punching a mirror, yes you did read correctly the actor punched a mirror! He couldn’t stand the look of himself so decided to punch the mirror. Of course that’s a slight exaggeration. Jake’s rep said that Jake was indeed filming Nightcrawler when during the shooting of an intense scene his character purposefully banged his hand into the mirror. Fortunately he was able to get back to work and filming could recommence. Being a perfectionist for each role he portrays Jake plays a character called Lou in the film a young guy who gets drawn into a world of undercover crime. Jake has lost more than 20lbs to play the part. I speak for everyone when I say this I hope Jake avoids more mirrors in the near future. He’s a great actor and we can’t wait for Nightcrawler.

Word On The Street news - gossip - music - sport - celebrities Professor Green arrested after calling police for his stolen Rolex

W

e haven’t heard much of Professor Green in a while but fear not because he is back in the spotlight, why? For drunk driving; originally the 22 year old Hip Hop star called the police because there was a mugging right in front of his house and his Rolex watch sadly got stolen. That same day the police arrested him because he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The police arrested him on the spot because they found out that his Mercedes and another car were involved in a crash; thank-

fully no one was hurt. The Read All about It rapper, Professor Green (real name Stephen Manderson) was thought to have been clubbing the night before his arrest. Hours before, he posted pictures on his Instagram profile of him in a plane with vodka bottles. What’s quite weird is that Stephen’s Wife, Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh 23, was not home during at the time. Thankful Stephen was bailed; however he has to report to a police station by the end of the month. His people had nothing to say about the arrest.

15 Joints a day? You must be gaga!

I

n an interview Lady Gaga admitted being addicted to weed so much that she would smoke 15 joints a day. But why was she so addicted to it? Well according to the Applause singer it was all to numb her hip injury pain; it got so bad that she had to cancel her ‘Born This Way Ball Tour.’ This is what she had to say “I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it

off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was.” When she decided to kick the habit Marina Abramovic, a performance artist advised her to go an intense rehab experience. This is what Marina had to say to Gaga “Marina said, ‘OK, you’re coming to my house - no television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art.” Her Hip injury was so bad that she could have ended up with a hip

replacement surgery and no one knew about it, not even her fans. This is what she had to say about it “I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven’t even told the fans yet. But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery, there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip. I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer.” Now thankfully Gaga managed to kick the habit however she does smoke it during the night.

news - gossip - music - sport - celebrities Mark Wahlberg hits the roof!

M

ark Wahlberg has gone off on one about actors who compare the rigours of their job to soldiers. You don’t need a brain to work out who he is referring to considering Tom Cruise caused controversy when court documents became public that detailed a comment made by the star suggesting his jobs was comparable to fighting in Afghanistan. It may have been blown out of proportion, as Tom was only answering a question posed to him by a lawyer who asked wether

shooting in far-flung locations away from his family meant he equated his absence to someone fighting in Afghanistan. Cruise said he hadn’t heard that analogy before but said that’s what it feels like. He then got asked whether he thought the two situations were one and the same, which he scoffed at and said “oh, come on.” Personally he didn’t really say anything that bad (it could of been worse), however that did not stop Mark Wahlberg, he literally hit the roof! On stage at a post-premiere Q&A for his new film Lone Survivor he just went off on one, about self-entitled actors thinking their job is hard. He went on to say. For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh I went to SEAL training,’ and I slept on the — I don’t give a [bleep] what you did,” Wahlberg said.

“You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s. How [bleeping] dare you. While you sit in a make-up chair for two hours. I don’t give a [pot noodle] if you get your [bottom] busted. He then went on to add you get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room, you get to order [bleeping] chicken. Or your steak. Whatever the [bleep] it is. Could we order Chicken steak?”

Justin is just ‘average’ better Belieb it!

A

pparently the19 year old Baby singer, Justin Bieber’s loyal female fans are not enough for him because now he has been spotted in and leaving a Brazilian brothel with a prostitute. Justin cannot deny it because the same woman filmed him sleeping in the hotel room he was staying in. When the prostitute from Le Palace nightclub in Panama was interviewed this is what she had

to say about the night and Justin Bieber himself “It was delicious. It was super delicious, because not every day do you get to be with someone famous, especially someone like him. He’s a love of a man! A cutie patootie!” she also revealed that “Justin Bieber’s ‘manhood’

size was just average.” He tried to make an escape by hiding under a sheet.

Martin O’Neill & Roy Keane set for Republic of Ireland roles

Y

es you did read rightly, Martin O’Neill, ex Celtic & Villa boss who won 64 caps for Northern Ireland has been out of football since being sacked by Sunderland in March, and Ex-Republic midfielder Keane 42 was dismissed by Ipswich in January 2011 have been appointed at the new Republic of Ireland management team.

14

The Republic parted with company Giovanni Trapattoni in September after failing to qualify for the 2014 world cup in Brazil. It’s been confirmed that Martin O’Neill will be the manager with Roy Keane as his assistant. It’s a remarkable pairing, who would have expected two of the greatest people in football will be managing together. The future looks bright for RoI with this appointment.

Street Cred Premier League Predictions

W 5th

ell of course it’s far too soon to know anything just as yet, but for the time being we’ve placed a short prediction of our top 5 for the end of the season.

Manchester United This is no disrespect to David Moyes, he is an incredible manager, yet he needs time to adjust to the way Manchester United plays on his own, that being said I can’t see him finding his feet just yet. Looks like it could be another season before United start winning again. Although it’s interesting, it is still early days and they are showing elements of improving. He could be focusing on the Champions League or the FA Cup, who knows only Moyes himself knows but unfortunately for the time being I’m saying 5th

4

th

Manchester City Although they have an incredibly impressive squad, something doesn’t feel right anymore about Manchester City. The flair and intimidation from last season is gone, leading to some lackluster performances that don’t look good for the long run for City. Neither of the Manchester clubs feel strong enough to win this season, but not much will separate them either way.

3

Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham are playing remarkable football this season, Even though everyone felt the departure of Gareth Bale would spell the end for Tottengam, they’ve gone from strength to strength AVP has definitely found his feet and working his magic to this impressive Tottenham side. It’s remarkable to witness, and if after their magnificent start they can continue through the rest of the season then a top 3 spot is calling.

rd

2

Arsenal Arsenal have always had their highs and their lows regarding success and upsets within the league but they seem to be back on track to making success. They’ve got a great squad, great players, and are now playing some incredible football. It’s amazing to witness a club having endless highs and lows it’s great to see a club finally on track to a winning performance as they deserve.

nd

1

Chelsea It’s obvious that with the return of the man himself it’s going to happen. Chelsea have turned into a completely new side after bringing back Jose as manager. You have to admire their work and the work of the Special One himself. It’s going to be great to see him come back and win the title again, and it would be an impressive feat for him. Having the likes of Torres, Lampard, Terry etc all incredible players and all playing superbly this season if they keep up this seasonal performance I can’t see why they can’t win the league.

STREET CRED INTERVIEW

Feature

EXCLUSIVE

Firstly could you tell the readers a little background information on what is exactly that you do? My name’s Daniel Johnson and I’m a Celebrity Hairstylist. I started cutting hair from the age of 12 years old. I know it’s young but from a young age, I realized that there was nobody around who could cut my hair with the style and precision I wanted. So I decided to learn and do it myself. Pretty simple really. As I got more practice in, I realized I was good at it. My reputation grew and that’s when I started trimming the hair of some of my close friends and family. Before I knew it I was cutting the hair of most of the people in my area and attracting all types of clients. It snowballed and, following an lot of hard work, I opened my first shop at the age of just 16.

Times change, fashions change and if you don’t keep your game up, you won’t have any clients for long. I work hard to make sure that I deliver THE BEST service to my clients and that’s why they keep coming back. It’s the best compliment I could receive.

You’ve cut hair for some of the biggest names in football but who gave you the best feedback? To be honest, all my clients have given me nothing but good feedback for my haircuts and it makes me feel really happy that they have recommended me to their friends and contacts. Many of these people have become long-term clients who I still have on my books today. I think the best recommendation is that they keep coming back. I always say that ‘you’re only as good as your last cut.’

You’ve got many different products out at the moment, where would you say would be perfect way to purchase them? The best way to purchase my new exclusive men’s hair collection in online. You can buy them at www.danielj.org and they will soon be available in stores and most hair salons very soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Did you always want to become a hairstylist or was it something you just fell into? Cutting hair for me was always a must! Where I grew up, nobody could cut my hair the way I wanted... I’ve always wanted to be the greatest at what I do - whether that was as a hairstylist or any other career I could have chosen. That’s just me! I give it the full 100% or not at all, being good means nothing to me, only the greatest matters!! I work hard to make sure that I achieve that.

17

Where do you see your career within the next 12 months? In the next 12 months, I aim to have my business expanding to whole new level, from new male grooming salons to me working with of the biggest names in America. I’d love to say who but not allowed – yet! haha. If you want to stay updated and see all the latest insider pics and latest news, you can follow me on twitter @IAmDanielJ You’ve created a massive brand for yourself I mean cutting the hair of some A-List celebrities, not forgetting top notch footballers, how does it feel knowing you’ve accomplished so much? A lot of people say how I’ve created a massive brand and worked with some of greatest athletes in world, for me I’m just getting started. I’ve got so much more to give you all and there’s so much more that I want to achieve. I feel extremely blessed at what I do but to be real, it’s all about hard work, dedication, always perfecting my craft and self belief. You know, there will always be people who want to see you fail, that’s life! But in a weird way, I like that! It’s the haters that make me want to keep working and trying harder . The way I see it is that I’m lucky to blessed with a gift and I love my job so I make the most of it. What’s wrong with that?! How old were you when you first realised you had a passion for hairstyling? I knew from young, like my early teens, that I was going to be

one of the greatest men’s stylist in the world. I saw a gap in the market and thought… it’s time to take this to a whole new level. I find that barbers, actually hairstylists in general, don’t get full credit for what they do, Hair is the ultimate accessory, people often assume that we just cut hair but there’s so much more to it. We’re constantly thinking of new ideas, practicing and setting new trends. We want our clients to look and feel great, not to get a haircut that in a one-style-fits –all way. We want it to be unique to them and for them to feel amazing wearing it. If you could go on a date or have a relationship with any celebrity past or present who would it be and why? Wow if I could go on a date with anyone… hmmm I’d say Alicia keys, or Nicole Scherzinger. They have personality, talent, sassiness and are absolutely gorgeous. Who wouldn’t?! If you had a movie based around your life who would you love to play you? Movie, I’d say 50 cent or Jay-Z. Those guys came from the rock bottom and now have achieved all, though all the madness that goes on in the world staying focused is a number 1 rule, keep your eyes on the prize, never give up or listen to other people who say you can’t do it... For anyone who’s thinking that they cn never make it or that school isn’t for them, YOU CAN and there are other options, other things that you’ll be good at. Believe in yourself! I got told at school, well several, that I’d never make it life but I knew that what they was saying was rubbish. I didn’t want to end up like them… same job, job going nowhere in 10 years so I worked hard to make success happen. I’d really like to go back to all the schools that told me that and give talks to help and inspire their pupils. To tell them that it doesn’t matter what your dream is, if you have one, follow it! It can happen…. This is definitely something I’ll do in the future. Name 3 positive things about being a hairstylist? I love the lifestyle that being a hairstylist has enabled me to experience. I’ve been blessed, being a successful hairstylist has taken me all around the word. I love to travel and it’s meant that I’ve been to

some of the greatest places and have met some really nice people over the years who I speak to all of the time and have become really close too. However, the main positive is that I get paid to do something I love. No day is ever the same and I love styling hair, the creativity and the buzz when you see the look of happiness when someone has a haircut they love, suit and feel confident in. It’s what drives me. If you could change something and do something a little differently what would it be? Hmmm if I could change something? Nothing, I’ve got to keep working hard, growing as a person and working hard to achieve my dreams. You can’t change the past, just learn from it and the most important thing is to keep trying. It’s about self-improvement and feeling good about yourself. As long as I feel like I do my best and keep trying, I’m happy. What’s been the most random gift someone has ever given you? The most random gift that I’ve received is a £1200 Monclur Jacket. It was totally out of the blue. I don’t know why they gave it to me but I must have looked cold when I was cutting hair haha.... What are we to look for from you within the near future? There’s a lot in store for the future. I’m building my team at the moment so you’ll definitely be seeing Daniel Johnson the brand in a few places. I can’t say to much but stay tuned. It’s really important to nurture new talent so I invest a lot of time doing it. Young people have a lot of talent. People helped me when I was starting out so I think it’s really important for me to give back too. I’m really proud of my team at The Daniel Johnson Academy, they’re very talented and dedicated. If someone wanted to go into hairstyling, or even having their own salon, what is the main advice you’d give to them? The main advice I’d give to up and coming hairstylists is ‘believe in yourself, stick to what you want to do, and go for it. You need to be thick skinned too as, like with anything, you’ll go through some ups and downs in your career but don’t give up. Only the great get through it all so keep trying. Good luck!’ Thank you for taking the time out to speak to us, It’s been an absolute pleasure finding more about you. I wish nothing but the best for you within the future regarding your products, salon etc. As you’ve had impressive feedback from people in the past I hope it continues.

T

he explosive and highly entertaining brand, WWE hit the shores of the UK creating a wave of excitement as it crossed the pond. A huge list of high profile wrestlers made the trip over, including current WWE champion Randy Orton, WWE title contender The Big Show, Big E, The Miz, Gold Dust, and many more.

A massive spectacle of entertainment for all ages, WWE Live was an all around fun family event, with everyone excited to see the impacting line-up of wrestlers. Some of the biggest names in the WWE entertained children and adults alike, and definitely didn’t disappoint. WWE Live is an experience that will never be forgotten, as there is the feeling that you’re actually the audience like you’ve seen so many times on the TV.

There was slight disappointment with the Match Card, as everyone expected to see Daniel Bryant against Randy Orton but sadly the match that took place was Randy Orton vs The Big Show. That being said, it was an entertaining matchup nevertheless, and hearing the children in the crowd chanting ‘Yes Yes Yes’ and ‘We Want Bryant!’ when they realised Daniel wouldn’t be fighting was amusing. Through the interaction of the stars with the audience, and the chance to meet the stars backstage to get pictures taken with them made the whole experience that little bit more special, and for the long-time fans of WWE, the best it could have been.

A small number of fans hoping to see their favourite wrestler John Cena went home slightly disappointed, but for the majority the whole spectacle was amazing. Seeing the arena packed out for WWE Live was not a surprise considering the popularity of the brand worldwide and the loyal army of fans it commands, and to see the wrestlers and matches that have been beamed to homes nationwide for so long in the flesh really is a treat for any fan. WWE Live is a brilliant tour to see, the feeling of being right in the thick of the action is something that won’t be forgotten. A perfect event for all ages, whether you’re a huge fan of wrestling or not.

As Winter sets in, the layers come out, as do the big coats. But the question is, with all the extra layers we’ll be wearing, can we still be stylish while we’re doing it? We went out into the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham to see what the people of the city had to offer!

Name: Aiden Clarke Age: 20 Occupation: Accountant Fashion icon: Tom Lardy

Name: Rebecca Age: 16 Occupation: Student Fashion icon: Holly Willoughby

Even though it is winter and a very cold one at that, it doesn’t seem to bother Aiden. I can see why he’s wearing what he’s wearing because like his fashion icon Tom Lardy he also has this skater boy look to him. All Aiden needs is tattoos and a skating board and he will look exactly like his very own icon. The outfit is working on him.

Now Rebecca’s outfit looks a little warmer. I can see the resemblance between Rebecca’s outfits and Holly Willoughby‘s. Rebecca makes it work by putting her own touch to it.

Name: George Age: 17 Occupation: Builder Style icon: Don’t have one George looks like your typical shy boy that would be himself around his closest people and his outfits reflect that. His not over done it with his style it looks simple and very cool. Even though his got that long coat, it doesn’t look like his warm. Better put a little more clothes on before you catch a cold.

Name: Julia Age: 20 Occupation: Student Fashion Icon: Alexa Chung Julia has already prepared for whatever the winter has to throw. She has it all, the big yellow scarf, woolly hat, woolly sweater, big Timberland shoes and not forgetting the leather coat; the only thing she’s missing is the gloves. Winter by the looks of things you’re going to lose the war with Julia this time.

Name: Elyse Age: 16 Occupation: Student Fashion icon: Don’t have one Now Elyse looks the warmest with what she’s wearing. What stood out the most is her white scarf and pink woolly sweater; she looks awfully comfortable and warm. The colours that she chose really suit her and compliment each other well.

Name: Jamie Age: 17 Occupation: Plumber Fashion Icon: Joey Essex Jamie was going with an Essex look and feel, and he sure is pulling it off. Some might even say it suits him more than it does the Essex cast, although I don’t think he’s warm in that outfit at all!

Sneakers in the 1970s were made for sports, pure and simple. When the 1980s arrived, sneakers became chiefly a reflection of the “winning attitude” associated with sports (i.e. sports = cool), and later with the crossover into Black music and culture. alph Lauren perfume number 2 is a light, fruity, sweet, and girly fragance. It is good for all seasons so you don’t have to worry about what season to buy it in. The smell isn’t very strong so it wouldn’t irritate yours or other people’s noses unlike some strong perfumes that are out there. One negative point about the perfume though is that it doesn’t last very long. It seems to last roughly three hours so you’d have to reapply it. You would have to layer if you really want it to last a while. This is the perfect perfume you should get for a teenage girl or a young woman as their first perfume, so brothers if you’re not sure what to get a special lady then put this as the number one gift on your list. there isn’t really any reason why it shouldn’t be under the Christmas tree this year. £35.00

A

mor Amor is another perfume that you don’t want to miss out on buying. It has a very sexy, seductive, girly and adventurous smell to it. It quickly becomes a girl’s favourite perfume, once you buy or try it you would never want to change it for anything else. The perfume is so good that it beats most of the expensive and big names that are out there. The name on its own is says it all; you’ll love it from the very first moment you have it on you. It is also very long lasting but not very strong. The bottle looks very sexy romantic; because of the red colour and the rose. Both the colour and flower represent love and passion. It’s one of those perfumes that you don’t want to wear every day, but only for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, parties etc. £22.50

"Le Male" By Jean Paul Gaultier There were rumours that this perfume was reformed and some say it smells a little too feminine but it is still a very sexy, romantic, passionate, sensual and warm perfume. One thing is that it is not for everyone and it is not really suitable to wear on suits because if you start sweating the sweat smell and the smell of the aftershave don’t go too well together. It isn’t for teenage boys as it is too strong for them. Most women would prefer this on their partner as it is a little bit of a turn on. Women I do promise you would not regret buying this for your other half. It will keep both you and him happy and cosy this wintery season. It is quite cheap and affordable. £24.99

Armani Code By Giorgio Armani

A

rmani Code by Giorgio Armani is a man’s aftershave. This aftershave you MUST buy for your brothers, and or partners because I promise you he will love you for it. The good thing about this perfume is that it is unisex so both men and woman can wear it. When you first put it on you find it a little feminine. It has a cocktail smell to it with a zest of lemon. Spray it on you in the morning and you can still smell it on yourself at night; it is very long lasting and the smell isn’t too strong so it doesn’t irritate your nose. The smell begins with bergamot and ends with vanilla mixed with lemon. It is a very sexy perfume; if you want to get intimate with your other half then make sure you have this aftershave on it is going to work. It is quite pricey but it’s a special occasion so we do need to treat our special ones now and then. £40.80

t’s classed to be one of the best British menswear ranges at the moment, gaining popularity throughout the industry. With its stylish yet unique designs there isn’t a question why there is admiration for James Aubrey clothing. James Aubrey has launched it’s e-commerce site this September, with an Autumn/Winter collection. I believe it has the right balance of stylish and comfortable. It has the right fashionable wear especially regarding the winter weather approaching. It also maintains a perfect balance of between classic tailoring and contemporary design. The iconic and incredible part of this specific brand is the fact how they still state how proud and privileged they are about working with British suppliers to make affordable and

desirable menswear. They create many different styles and types of clothing from key pieces such as tailored tweets, waxed jackets and aran knitwear are made using British fabrics. It’s great to see a clothing brand not only making incredible clothing, but they’re 100% proud to be British not enough companies express their pride for British culture enough in today’s society. Comfy clothing and nice and snug for the winter, I deeply feel you will be hearing about this brand more and more as the months go by, as the population in mens fashion is increasing day by day. treet Cred Magazine got the chance to watch Disney on Ice in the NIA, Birmingham and also got the chance go back stage in the VIP section to meet and greet with one of the cast members. It was absolutely amazing in the meet and greet VIP section because not only did we get to meet one of the cast members but there was a beautiful spread of food and drink. It was such a magical time for

the children, getting to meet one of the princesses from the Dare To Dream lineup, and take pictures with her as well. There were goody bags and also masks and hats of Mickey and Minnie mouse on every table for the kids to take with them. Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald the Duck opened and

narrated the whole show. Including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, and Rapunzel/ Tangled, the show took your breath away, both theatrically and technically. All three stories were absolutely amazing they really did bring out the child side of everyone. You could hear people singing along

with the play. Overall the experience was amazing because it really did bring out the child side of everyone including the parents/carer’s. You could see everyone shouting, laughing, and playing along with all the different fairy tales. It was quite interesting to watch the kid’s reactions. Everyone really did enjoy it.. The moves that they were doing on the ice were pretty amazing; just watching them take control of the ice really made you realise how talented the skaters were. Watching them all keeping their balance like that on the ice is something really hard and in the Rapunzel section, the strength required to hold on to the “hair” while they were being hoisted up into the air was remarkable. Watching old fairy tales are good because they make you believe that love, happiness and forever do still actually exist and no one should stop believing in love; it just gives you a good feeling about everything. It lets you escape from the real world and live the fairy tale they are living for the duration of the show.

ALBUM REVIEWS by Liam o’leary

T

Tinie Tempah - Demonstration

his is the album everyone was made to wait for for so long, it was more of an album expressing what Tinie could do as an artist, as you can tell by the people who are featured on the album. There are some massive names including Laura Muvla, Big Sean, Dizzee Rascal and more. It was such a new light to see Tinie in. It was great to see him at his best, as he came from an urban background he’s always kept it current and natural for everyone to enjoy which is remarkable. The most appealing thing to this album is that you can hear the enjoyment within his voice. The type of enjoyment where he’s having the most fun whilst making and creating his music. Demonstration is an album that expresses a new talent and a new feeling towards Tinie’s future; it’s such a feel good and party album. Tinie is so loveable because of the understanding of his struggle that you heard in his first album, and in his second album it’s more of expressing the enjoyment of being in the limelight. You could literally listen track to track without skip-

ping the album, which is a rare feat for an album lately. Everyone adores Tinie Tempah as an artist because of the way he is around his fans. I think his album explains that perfectly. Heartily recommended!

EMINEM - MMLP2 (Marshall Mathers LP 2)

W

hen MMLP2 came out, everyone went crazy. The kind of reaction you can only attribute to one of the best selling artists coming back after 3 years of silence. Marshall Mathers LP 2 is his strongest project to date, and although it’ll inevitably be compared to his previous work, it’s a radically different direction for the Detroit MC. Eminem is an artist that has aged, yet managed to stay looking the same age. The first MMLP was loved by his fan base, and understandably when it was announced MMLP2 was in production everyone was delighted. As you listen to the album, there is definite nostalgia as Dr Dre’s producing shines through. When this dynamic duo work together there is

nothing that is going to stop them what so ever. With incredible tracks like “So Far” and “Stronger Than I Was”, the album provides hit after hit, proving once again that the legend of rap himself is back for another round. Eminem is an artist that will always have a major influence in the music indudustry, just a quick look at his Twitter account shows that. MMLP2 is a tremendous return to form for Eminem, and comes highly recommended by Street Cred. This is a statement that Eminem is back and doesn’t plan on going anywhere any time soon, with track after track oozing talent. One of the best albums of the year, and a must buy, even if you’re not a huge Eminem fan.

Book REVIEW by Liam o’leary

TERMINATOR VAULT

T

erminator is such a cult classic, and whether you’re a fan or not, the Terminator Vault Book is such a well put together book packed full of facts and information, that it will appeal to everyone. It’s a great read that covers a story written nearly 30 years ago. Intelligently taking everything from James Cameron’s early work to the casting of the legend himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, illustrated by lots of creative old pictures and photographs of the movie made it so informative.

Regardless if you are a fan or not it keeps you intrigued and wanting to finding out more about the movie. Some of the production and model photographs on show prove just how much work really went into this phenomenal creation that has been admired for so many years. It’s incredible how they introduce you to the painstaking and precedent-setting effects of the sequel and how they would to change and affect the whole film industry.

You don’t realise how much time and effort goes into creating such a masterpiece of a film, it’s only through seeing the production stills that you can get a sense of the scale of it all. After reading the book you’ll want to go and watch the films immediately to see if you can notice all the parts you’ve just read about. If you’re a fan of the franchise or want to go into the production and design of movies, this book will give you a massive insight into how the industry works. Street Cred would highly recommend this, so make sure you go out and get your copy now!

fter melting the hearts of millions, as Ashley Banks in the US hit comedy, ”The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Tatyana Ali has provoked emotions of a different kind in her role in the new film, ‘Home Again.’ Set in Jamaica, and filmed in Trinidad, she takes on the role of a mother who is raised in Canada but, as with two other central characters, faces deportation back to Jamaica and is forced to leave her two children behind. This is a marked change from the character we all grew to love as in ‘Home Again’ Ali plays Marva, a mother who finds herself in a country she knows nothing about and is forced to make a new life for herself as she struggles to get her children from Canada to be with her. Enthusing about her new role, she said: “Although I haven’t come across any experiences that Marva did, in my own life, to feel alien in a particular place where you are not rooted wasn’t totally strange to me.” The American actress, born to a Trinidadian father and Panamanian mother, is hugely grateful for the cultural heritage of her parents, seen as an integral part of her own identity, when she said: “Both of my parents were immigrants. People use the term African-American a lot. It’s a phrase people might use to identify me. That’s almost like a cultural term because I feel like my heritage is more AfricanCaribbean.” ‘Home Again’ was made by Canadian filmmakers, husband and wife team, David ‘Sudz’ Sutherland and Jennifer Holness. It examines Jamaican deportation with the aim of giving the contentious issue a human face. With the to-be-deported characters forced to examine who they truly are as with Ali’s own life, heritage plays a major role in the film, which thrilled co-star, CCH Pounder. The celebrated America-based, Guyaneseborn actress famed for her roles in the blockbuster; Avatar, as well as US dramas The Shield and Law and Order said: “This is an issue that is happening throughout the world today, in various

50

communities. ‘Home Again’ is about repatriation to mother countries by force, and using the law to get you there. I think there is a general ignorance about what’s required when parents bring their children to another country. A lot of people think of their children as appendages as opposed to separate individuals, who require their own identification and their own paperwork.” Trinidad-born producer Lisa Wickham believes the film will provide worldwide interest in Caribbean films. She said: “Caribbean people show great pride in seeing ‘Home Again’ as a seminal film up there with the last ‘greats;’ ‘The Harder They Come, which was made in 1972.” Producer, Sutherland, who is of Jamaican heritage, defended the film, set in Jamaica but filmed in Trinidad, saying: “Hotel Rwanda was filmed in South Africa; Chicago was filmed in Toronto – Superman was filmed on Earth! Seriously though, I can tell you why it wasn’t filmed in Jamaica. We spent three-and-ahalf years trying to deal with the Jamaican government to get it filmed there. It didn’t happen. It was a money problem.” ‘Home Again’ is released on November 29.

Motivation : KEEP POSITIVE!

hen you first start exercising, it’s easy to get disheartened when you don’t see the results as quickly as you would like to. But don’t worry. Although they may not be instantly visible, changes to your body ARE happening so it’s important to

stay motivated and stay positive. Keep at it and, I promise, you will achieve the results you desire. I’ve come up with my top 7 tips to help you stay positive and motivated. It may be hard now but when you start to see those results, it’s the best feeling ever. Go on, you can do it!

Never feel like you can’t do it or that it will be too hard

S Don’t let life’s changes throw you off track

R

emember that most extenuating circumstances are temporary. Gain more clarity by staying the course and channeling your energy in a positive direction. Believe that your strength and intelligence can help you deal with anything.

ometimes it’s really easy to want to give up when you don’t feel your diet or exercise regime is working but it’s really important not to get disheartened if other people seem to be getting results quicker than you. Even the most successful people have to deal with disappointment and, if you

C

don’t try, you’ll never achieve the body you want. The trick is to process your feelings and then take some kind of action. Join the gym and cut out that chocolate cake. Remember: small changes make big changes. So let’s start getting into the right frame of mind and start work!

Ignore the myths

ontrary to popular belief, exercising doesn’t make you tired. It literally creates energy in your body. Don’t believe what other people say, stick to what works for you.

D Clear your head and energise yourself

S

wimming is a great way to keep fit, tone up and clear your head at the same time. It’s a great way to ‘indulge’ in some all-important ‘me time’ too. Refreshing and motivating, I can NEVER go for a swim without leaving invigorated and positive. Swimming is full of benefits. Like cycling, it’s fantastic for people who prefer low-impact activities or have joint problems as you can go at your own pace and the impact won’t distress your bones and joints. It’s a relaxed but extremely toning form of exercise. I would also recommend swimming whilst pregnant, as it’s extremely calming. My sister swam 30 laps the day she went into labour. It was something she did everyday of the pregnancy and we believe it’s what helped her get on her feet again quicker after the birth.

M

Motivate yourself by trying something new

o you feel too pooped to drag yourself to your favourite Spinning class? Try something new. I love burning calories by hitting the pavement. Running is an effective cardiovascular activity that will burn lots of calories through the high-impact activity. This is my form of workout in the weekday as it’s a great way to combine taking my dog for a walk with some exercise for myself. It really stretches her legs as well, and after I’ve finished I always feel set for the day. Bonus! You need to start slowly and invest in good training shoes to protect those knees… This is a good thing as running shoes are very personal. One runner might love a shoe that another one hates, and they can both be right. Get what makes you feel comfortable. Note: If you are recovering from an injury or suffer from joint pain, try to avoid running until you are fully recovered. I would recommend trying something like cycling instead as is a relatively safe calorie-burning exercise which doesn’t put stress on your bones and joints as much as other exercises during which your feet repeatedly pound the ground.

Choose the right workout for YOU.

ost people don’t fully understand how these different types of exercise elicit very different responses within our bodies. Choosing the

right workout for you is essential. If you HATE it then you will never stick to it. The key is to find something you can do at least 3-5 times a week. We are all different

You can also tweet me photos of you exercising, making healthy meals etc. on Twitter @HayleySNewton It will help to keep you motivated and I’d love to see them too You can follow Hayley on Twitter @HayleySNewton / www.hayleynewton.com

and our bodies react in different ways. As your fitness improves, you will be able to perform higher intensity exercise for longer periods of time. Keep positive!

Get interactive

t’s important to keep interacting with people whilst exercising and eating healthily as the support will help you to stay positive and to stick to your regime. Whether this is with your gym class friends or at home, this is proven to give you better results.

jacob wellfair For the readers of Street Cred Magazine can you tell us a little background information about you and what you do? I’m 18, born and currently living in Gloucestershire, I did music at GCSE level and started making YouTube cover song videos at the end of year 11. After that I moved on to complete AS music technology alongside my other options. I then decided to drop out of 6th form and start my HNC in music production at college, skipping A2’s. I’m an aspiring singer, song-writer and producer. Currently I’m lucky enough to have a few different industry contacts to work with to bring my ideas to life and to learn from. How old we’re you when you first developed a passion for music? I’ve loved music since I can ever remember. By the age of four I was playing “Twinkle little star” on the xylophone. I didn’t start listening to chart music or researching artists until secondary school age, from then on I’ve been creating a more personal taste in music. I was inspired to try writing my own songs seriously after leaving secondary school. By the end of year 12 at 6th form, I’d realised music was the only thing I truly wanted to do, I couldn’t stop creating and listening to new sounds. What artists or who inspire you? A variety of artists have inspired me in different ways. At home I was encouraged to listen to anything from Oasis and Coldplay from my brother to Beyoncé by my sisters. The biggest influences for my current sound and style are Tom Odell, Onerepublic, James Arthur, Emeli Sandé and Gabrielle Aplin. The closest people around me also give me the inspiration to write my songs including my siblings, girlfriend and best mates.

Do you just sing or can you play any musical instruments? I play piano and am currently working towards my grade 8 practical piano to meet entry requirements for a London music university. I’d like to learn guitar and start vocal lessons to look after my voice better. Do you write your own original songs. Tell me about them? I’ve got enough of my own demo songs written to release a couple of EP’s or offer tracks to other artists in the near future. They are mostly slow or mid tempo, I’m working towards more upbeat songs at the moment. They are normally about me or people who I’m close with, detailing a part of their journey in life, usually a struggle. I’ve got to continue on to documenting the best parts of my and others lives with music as well now. If you could make music with any artist past or present who would it be and why? If I could only pick one person to make a track with from scratch it would have to be Ryan Tedder from One Republic. The band has influenced me for years,

I’ve got all of their albums and he has written huge tracks for many other successful artists. He’s not only a songwriter but a great producer as well, I like the direction he takes to show emotion in a song and structure raw lyrics which have depth and real meaning. Have you any plans to release a single or an album? What single would you release and what would your 1st album be called? I plan to release and EP with a lead single included next year. The single would be the track that sounds most like an anthem that sticks in people’s mind, hopefully catchy in some way, something I could imagine a crown singing back to me at a festival. When I have a collection of songs to put together to create a themed album, its name will depend on the main theme. I like the idea of its name being left to interpretation like the songs. Maybe the most extreme and blunt idea would be to call the album “Ambiguous” or “Open to interpretation.” Alternatively I could state the album inspiration as its title, for example “Songs for my people.” Finally I could use the title of one of the album tracks to name the whole album which is more common. Have you done any live gigs. Have you any gigs planned in the future? I’ve done a few live gigs at small venues and a couple of festivals, this is something I’m starting to get into now, I plan on doing a local pubs and clubs, any bigger festivals I can get into and a gig next year at Birmingham in association with VMG.

64

Where do you see your musical career heading in the next 12 months? In the next 12 months, I have no idea what state my career will be in. 12 months ago I wouldn’t have expected to have so many opportunities now. Chances to write songs with professionals, work with successful producers, be offered publicity, gigs and tracks to sing on. So I can only hope I utilise my resources in the best way possible to grow as an artist, gain knowledge, experience and create some great music with creative guidance. I hope to hit over a million views on YouTube and have a lot more developed material of my own that I can perform and release. Would you enter a TV talent contest such as The XFactor, The Voice or BGT? Often I feel like people are either changed too much on TV talent shows, the wrong acts advance too far or it’s always about hitting huge notes and not the artists’ style as a whole. That said it’s a great platform for promotion and being spotted by others who may help develop your career or buy your music. Despite the stigma of being a TV talent show act, it’s done wonders for acts who haven’t even won such as Olly Murs. I haven’t ever signed up for such a show however I have been invited for an audition with the producer of Britain’s Got Talent directly after someone sent one of my YouTube videos to talent scouts. It will be interesting to get feedback from someone in TV.

Who would you say your style of music and or voice is similar to? I’d say my style of music is similar to a mixture of artists ranging from Coldplay and Tom Odell to the Kooks. Some people have mentioned my vocals reminding them or James Arthur at times due to the grit starting to develop in my tone. What makes you different from other unsigned artists out there at the moment? I think a difference that sets me aside from other unsigned acts is I’m willing to be heavily involved and gain knowledge about every stage of the creative process from simply writing songs to co-producing and promotion, being influential in all decisions made. Adding to this, I’m a perfectionist who always strives to do better. Laziness would never be an issue, it’s all about the hard work and patience. In terms of artistic style, I don’t know anyone who specifically sounds like me and I’m often told how original I sound. This is hard to note since I’m used to hearing myself but there’s a gap in the market for me if I go with what others believe. Furthermore guitarists are far more common than pianists like me, which may be refreshing to see and hear for the public. VMG found you on YouTube and the first cover I watched was your version of John Newman’s Love Me Again. What are the benefits of being able to upload your music to YouTube? The benefits of uploading my music to YouTube include anonymous feedback through likes, dislikes and comments. Constructive criticisms can be found and improvement can be noted by the ratio of likes to dislikes with each video. Another useful feature is that people all over the world can hear my music and I can see where I am gaining the most views in analytics. This means I can target specific audiences in the future with my own material who took the most interest in my take on other peoples songs.

What is your favourite cover you have uploaded to YouTube? My favourite cover I have uploaded to YouTube so far is my last one, One Direction’s “Story of my life.” This is because it shows the most improvement in terms of vocals and production and I haven’t had long to find many more things wrong with it like the rest! It was the quickest cover I’ve made and I wasn’t happy with the take we got in that time. However the rating and response is the best I’ve had so far which is reassuring. As an unsigned artist yourself do you have any advice to give others who want to make it in the music industry? The advice I would offer to other unsigned acts who are trying to make it in the music industry would include not becoming a manufactured artist. Do what you feel is right as a creative individual and work as hard as you can to convince others that it’s something of value. Secondly, never say no to any opportunity unless you truly have better options, all experience is useful. Finally focus on your craft, develop yourself as a performer, instrumentalist, song-writer and confident individual continuously. You will never stop learning or improving if you keep going. What’s next for you then? The next thing I’m doing is recording my demo tracks properly, sending them to producers and then working with the ones that take an interest who also have my best interests at heart. Finally can you tell the readers an interesting fact about you? An interesting fact about me if my strange body, I’m very clicky, my fingers continuous click no matter what if I squeeze them. Adding to this my tongue is particularly long; I can touch my nose with ease!

Step into the future of mobility By 2015 pedestrians in Milton Keynes to get driverless cars as public transport

T

he UK will be testing driverless cars within the next year, starting with a small group of 20 automated cars that drive on specific routes, have a speed cap of 12 miles per hour and only carry two people. It’s fascinating to think how drastic and strange this is, everything is becoming more futuristic. It’s going to be an interesting thing and curious to see if it’s something that would take off. There are so many questions that need to be answered! Wouldn’t having no driver be slightly difficult when you get lost because you couldn’t blame anyone? However nothing is certain as it’s only in the testing process. It needs to be made safe for usage of the public, even though it doesn’t drive the fastest as it runs 12 miles per hour will be slower than just driving yourself however it’s more of a project that is meant for pedestrians making it a lot faster than walking, it’s a creative yet imaginative idea nevertheless.

You won’t even need to worry about getting involved with an accident as these cars have special sensors on them to avoid collisions but of course there will always be speculation if it will actually dodge people. The first wave of cars is costing the government £1.5 million and if all goes well, we will end up seeing 100 automated cars by 2017!

Affordable Ford Focus 2014

Dream Bentley - Flying Spur

Of course on the affordable cars front, the Ford Focus has always been on the top of everyones lists because it’s such an incredible car maintaining excellence on the road and control. It’s everything you need and want in a vehicle. It’s looks absolutely stunning for a Ford range. The Ford models have always been famous for their comfort, quality and reliability. The Focus chassis hasn’t changed too much across the years, making it a pretty iconic car, regardless of the year it was made. It might not be the car that will drive incredibly fast yet it’s a car that’s designed to last. It’s well rounded car, good mileage, incredible performance, smooth & elegantly driven. It’s a world class car and one that many people would be happy to drive.

The Excellence, Beauty and Control that the Flying Spur emanates, matched with Bentley’s smooth ride make for a stunning car. Going from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and with a top speed of 200 mph really make this car stand out. The 4 wheel phenomenal is normally known as the monster and ultimate car of all cars because it’s just remarkable, and that doesn’t include what you find inside of the car. You have a touchscreen front seat infotainment system, allowing both driver and front passenger to operate the navigation system, and adjust the audio, telephone, ride and comfort settings. If you find yourself lucky enough to get your hands on one it’s considered to be one of the best cars to drive.

VS

conclusions

D

o I go with my head or my heart? Going on looks alone, I’d pick the Bentley. However saying that, in realistic terms the Ford Focus is more likely to last longer. They are both incredible cars despite the massive difference in price.

One is definitely more of a family affordable car while the other is more of a show off wonder car, but as it’s too hard to decide I’ll pick the Ford. Having said that, the Bentley is a car that I will always dream and fantasise over.

BIGSCREEN NEWS

written by Antony Brown

Review After an ancient evil awakens and puts the entire universe in jeopardy, Thor must embark on his most perilous journey yet in order to combat this enemy before Earth, Asgard and the rest of the nine realms are completely destroyed. Over the past few years, Superhero movies have peaked in terms of popularity and every few months, Hollywood release yet another comic book adaptation for the world to marvel at. However, due to the sheer quantity of superhero movies released in recent years, many people are beginning to grow tired and long for something different. Enter, Thor: The Dark World. Thor: The Dark World has a unique advantage over every other superhero movie that is released, because it doesn’t feel like a superhero movie at all. Instead, what we get is a strange hybrid

of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, filled with rich, wonderfully realised worlds, interesting characters and endless mythology. I’m not saying that this movie is as good as either of those franchises, but the ancient architecture, costume and mythology, coupled with futuristic spacecrafts and weaponry is something truly unique and interesting. Directed by Game of Thrones alumni, Alan Taylor, this movie is a visual feast. This time around, Asgard isn’t as pristine and glorious as it appears in Thor (2011). Here, we see the murkier underbelly of this realm of the Gods. There are battles that end in countless deaths and an air of hopelessness lingers throughout the film. The action

sequences are spectacular and Taylor directs them with an ease and a confidence that the original lacked. The final showdown in particular is truly something to behold and is a far cry from anything seen in a superhero movie before. The battle is not restricted to Earth and instead takes place in several different realms across the universe. That is what separates Thor from other Marvel offerings; he has the ability to travel between worlds, which give the writers and director the opportunity and the freedom to create and explore these worlds. The cast are uniformly good, as has become expected of Marvel’s releases. Chris Hemsworth is, once again, fantastic as Thor. He has truly taken this character with both hands and made it his own. His dialogue seeps from him with a confidence and a power that would be difficult for others to emulate. In fact, it has reached a stage where it is hard to imagine any other actor playing this role, which is an amazing compliment for any actor. Anthony Hopkins is superb as Odin and for the short amount of time he appears on screen, he is mesmerising. This time around,

71

he is more forceful and weary of the universe around him. He appears to be in a constant state of anger, which acts as an interesting parallel between Odin and Thor. Hopkins’ appearance alone in a franchise like this is enough to give it credibility. However, as expected, the star of the show here is Tom Hiddleston. Much like he did in The Avengers, Hiddleston’s Loki steals every scene he is in. His arrogant, maniacal and ultimately hysterical performance is marvellous and the film truly benefits from having an actor who’s as enthusiastic about the character as the fans are. Unfortunately, not every performance is praiseworthy. Christopher Eccleston’s turn as the primary villain and leader of The Dark Elves, Malekith the Accursed, falls completely flat. Malekith is absolutely one dimensional and barely qualifies as a villain. He never poses a genuine and legitimate threat and he is completely overshadowed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays Malekith’s second in command, Algrim - who is later transformed into the powerful behemoth, Kurse. Kurse is ruthless and is responsible for the death of countless Asgardian soldiers and, without him; Malekith would be all but useless. However, in my opinion, the blame does not fall with Eccleston. He is a great and well established actor but, unfortunately for him, Malekith is a poorly written, bland villain and is merely reduced to uttering unimaginative and generic threats. Fortunately, this is the only major issue with this movie. Above all else, Thor: The Dark World is a lot of fun. Do not let the title fool you; this film is darker than its predecessor, but it never stays dark for long. Humour is a major

component in this movie and the laughs come thick and fast. In fact, some of the biggest laughs come during the climactic showdown between Thor and Malekith, which is a huge gamble, as the fate of the entire universe is at stake. Somehow, they manage to pull it off and the inclusion of comedy elevates the action and makes the final battle truly memorable. However, the biggest laugh comes with a cameo from an already established Marvel character. Their sudden appearance is a genuine surprise and is absolutely hysterical within the context of the scene. You won’t want to miss it.

Thor: The Dark World is a strong entry within the ongoing franchise and continues Marvel’s fantastic run. Personally, I believe that Thor: The Dark World is one of the strongest movies within the series so far, surpassed only by the original Iron Man and, of course, The Avengers. Hindered only by a weak villain, Thor: The Dark World is action packed, fast paced and superbly funny. Also, be sure to stick around for the credits as there are not one, but two extra scenes. 9/10

tarring many outrageously talented individuals from the likes of Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale among others, American Hustle is written and directed by David O Russell (Silver Lining Playbook, The Fighter) He’s a remarkable director, so this is one movie to look out for. The story is based around a con man, Irving Rosenfeld, (Christian Bale) along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. With this many A List celebrities in this movie, there isn’t a doubt in anyone’s minds how powerful and incredible it’s going to be, so wait and see what this will bring in December.

Bad Grandpa

fter his wife passes away and his daughter is arrested, 86 year old Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) embarks on a journey across America in order to take his 8 year old grandson, Billy, back to his real father. What follows is a combination of both a scripted storyline and unscripted, hidden-camera tomfoolery. This film is ridiculous, crude, over the top and side-splittingly hilarious. It is impossible not to laugh at the cringe worthy, hidden camera pranks that put unsuspecting members of the public in to some of the most horrifically awkward situations one can think of. Bad Grandpa is reminiscent of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat (2006), but isn’t as funny or effective. However, that is not a criticism, as Borat is a truly exceptional comedy that also works as a social commentary on the racism and intoler-

ance that is still alive in the world today. Whilst Bad Grandpa is not quite on the same level as that, it is still wildly funny and brilliantly entertaining. Knoxville is excellent and fearless as Irving Zisman, often putting himself in situations where he is aggravating people so much that, if he wasn’t in the guise of an 86 year old man, there are several points within this movie that would have culminated in a physical confrontation. Even so, Knoxville remains in character and refuses to give in, causing for some truly hilarious situations to unfold. One situation in particular involves Zisman attending a “ladies night” at a strip club, where he flirts endlessly and inappropriately with the clientele and infuriates the

male strippers. The whole scene is painfully funny. Jackson Nicoll is also excellent as Zisman’s 8 year old grandson, Billy. It is amazing that, at such a young age, he is able to keep a straight face whilst taking part in some of these aforementioned pranks. Like Knoxville, he never breaks character and appears to take joy in forcing unsuspecting members of the public into some greatly awkward situations. This young man has a very bright future. If you seek nothing more than fun and entertainment, then as long as you can disregard the paper thin plot, Bad Grandpa will more than satisfy your needs. 7/10

ou may remember a number of months ago hearing about a couple of speakers from Damson namely the Cisor, and the Twist. With impressive sound, portability and battery the Cisor and Twist both held a place in our hearts at Phoenix HQ. Can the Oyster (no we’re not sure quite why it’s called the Oyster either, it looks nothing like one!) live up to the expectations brought upon it by it’s predecessors? At £179.99, the Oyster is quite a bit more expensive than Damnson’s previous offerings, but boy does it pack a punch for your money. Off a single charge the Oyster can kick out 4 hours of Bluetooth streaming or 9 hours of wired music playback, more than enough for those lazy afternoons. Powered by 4 10W drivers, the sound quality and volume that can be pumped out of the Oyster is astounding. As reasonably sized as it is, at full volume you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a much larger speaker. At only 800g it’s a

Oyster

“Oh, and it's loud. Very loud.” rather lightweight and easily portable solution for end users. Available with a black or white band, the design and aesthetics of the Oyster are both beautiful and user friendly. The bluetooth connection is solid and strong, and through our

testing, there was no sound loss. The first thing you notice about the sound quality of the Oyster is the depth of sound that emanates from deep within it. Flipping between a mix of bass heavy, rocky, poppy, and classical music, the Oyster handled all of them well, and managed to do all of the genres justice. You can even hook the Oyster up to any audio input, including your TV. Sound replication from movies works well, and proves the versatility of the Oyster. All in all, you could do a lot worse than splashing £180 out for the Damson Oyster, but you’ll be hard pressed to find something that looks this sleek, stylish and sophisticated while doing it. Heartily recommended. 9/10

Students Rock Pink for Breast Cancer

W

alsall College was transformed into a sea of pink as staff and students raised funds for Breast Cancer Care through a day of pink-themed activities. Up to a dozen Hair and Beauty students used their talents to help the national charity through the College’s Pink Day, by offering pink nail painting and make-up, in return for donations. Skills for Working Life students also dressed up in a range of fun costumes and ran a book and cake stall in the atrium at Wisemore Campus on Thursday 24th October,

as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A tombola and competitions such as ‘guess the name of the teddy bear’ were also held to help with the College’s fundraising efforts. The event, which is held annually across the UK, was supported by ASDA St Matthews who provided games and prizes, with a total of £248 being donated towards their Tickled Pink Campaign. Helen Griffiths, Youth Engagement Officer at Walsall College, said: “Pink Day went really well and the support from both students and staff has been superb. We’ve raised lots of money for charity and are now waiting for the grand total to be added up which is likely to be over £300. “Breast Cancer charities are close to the hearts of many people and it is great to see students using the talents they have acquired on their courses to help save lives.”

SOPHIE FISHER studying Graphic Design at University Alongside improving her photography, Sophie Fisher also already has her own clothing range, Sapient Clothing. We find out what pushes her to do more. Firstly tell me some background information about yourself? Well I’m from Erdington, a small town within Birmingham. I’m 18 and I currently study at Birmingham City University and I pretty much live and breathe graphic design and photography. They keep me going and make me the person I am. what is it exactly that you do? I study Graphic Communication at Birmingham City University, and I’m halfway through my first year. You’ve got a clothing company, how did that come about? Yeah, It came about when I was bored one day really, I just played about with some logos and designs on Illustrator and decided to actually make them. It got more developed within my Final Major Project at college when I did a whole exhibition on my clothing company. could you tell me more about the company as a whole? Sapient, means wise… So I wanted to make a clothing company which kind of represented

that, as people nowadays want to be perceived as wise and smart. However, I played with a few designs on like high end designers such as Coco Chanel and Louis Vuitton but have the street element alongside the wise, and that’s where my Louis Vuitton inspired design which was used for my Final Major Project came about. if you had a movie based around your whole life who would you like to play you? I think a film about my life would be pretty boring right now ha! But if I had to choose, I’d choose possibly Chloe Moretz. I love her work and the films she has done so I think she’d be a pretty cool person to play me. Where do you see your career heading within the next 12 months? I hope to say that I’d get recognised and maybe I’ll be able to do some commercial work either with my photography or graphic design. But I’m pretty chilled out how I am at the moment.

Mr & Miss SC apart from your clothing range what are we expect from you in the near future? I’d love to get my photography out there, it would be great for people to see as much as my work as possible so maybe one day I can get recognised.

What made you want to go into graphic design? I’ve always been into art, from a young age I was always drawing cartoons and stuff… But I think definitely school and college has pointed me in that direction. I would have gone into photography but I feel that with graphic design, I can do both so I can incorporate two elements in to one. Who would you say inspires you? I don’t really have one person who inspires me, inspiration is everywhere… I can get inspired by anything from a piece of street art, to the cover of a book.

If you could go out with/ go on a date with one celebrity who would it be and why? If I could go on a date with a celebrity it would have to be Chris Brown, not only do I have a huge crush on him but what he does amazes me, his music, his art and his fashion sense. I reckon me and him would get on pretty well. if you had to give someone advice who was attempting to get into a career in graphic design what would it be? I’d tell them to go for it and not back down, practice makes perfect, if one thing doesn’t work… try another one. Push yourself and know your limits! Thanks a lot Sophie, and all the best for the future! Check Sophie out at: https://www.facebook.com/Grphicz http://www.flickr.com/photos/hellosophiegraphics/

MR STREET CRED PRESENTS

Glenn Morgan

YouGossip Founder, Glenn Morgan chats with Mark Dwayne about the App, the celebrities and his ambitions for the future

It was great meeting you, such a lovely guy and I mean that. How are things going for you? Mark, same to you too, and thank you for the great spots about YouGossip in Ian Wright’s piece last month. Things are going really well, and we are gaining a lot of traction from new users each day. But as you know yourself, it is all about hard work and being able to react to different situations. It’s clear that you have a lot of passion and ambition to make a success of what

86

you do. I like the way you like to make people happy. Ha ha, you know what? When you are with people who are happy or in a good mood your own life benefits so much, it sort of has a knock on effect. I really do not like being around miserable people. I feel that I have so much good luck with my family and friends and so many people have helped me, that I will do whatever I can to help others. How important is charity work for you? Incredibly important! It is becoming the focal point for me to make YouGossip the success that we think

Mr & Miss SC it can be. Since we created the YouGossip Foundation we are becoming more aware of the needs of people here. With the money raised from our APP, we reach out to so many people and it’s really rewarding. It’s important to invest in the future generations, people helped us so it’s important to give back. Why have you chosen specific charities to work with? Initially the Foundation was set up to benefit disasters around the world. We thought if we were benefiting from people posting pictures of Tsunamis or Hurricanes we thought we could respond and send some aid to the effected area. That is still in place but we have chosen specific ones in the UK too. We are working with The Bobby Moore Fund (Cancer Research) because John Mitchell who played in the 1975 FA Cup Final for Fulham against West Ham was Bobby’s best mate and he asked if we would help out. He introduced me to Stephanie Moore whom works tirelessly for the cause and that was that. Also The Willow Foundation whom Wrighty is an ambassador for. I met Bob and his wife Megs whilst at Ian Wright Charity Golf Trip in Portugal. They lost their daughter at a young age of 31 after battling cancer for 5 years. During that time they had such special days together, they wanted to help other terminally ill people in the 16 – 40 year old age bracket have at least one special

day. Katie Price who is a big user of You Gossip asked us to include The Vision Charity. Katie has such a large following on Twitter and uses YouGossip to upload all her photo’s to Twitter which gets us a lot of views and spreads the word for YouGossip which is great. Tell me a bit about the man - Glenn. When did you start out in business? I am from right up North, a little town called Thornaby, which is pretty close to Middlesbrough. Which, by the way is my team even though we are having such a tough time right now. We have had some great experiences over the years, and me and my mates talk about what a team we would have had if we could pick our best over the last 20 years, man with Juninho, Emerson, Boksic, Ravanelli, Robson, Downing, Schwarzer, Festa, Doriva, Yakubu, Southgate. I could go on but I digress. I actually started my working life as an apprentice spark at British Steel. (Think I am on record as being the worst they ever employed). I then got into sales and started canvassing for a photocopier company. This led to a successful time at Xerox and then into the telecommunication business selling software during the tech boom. What was your very first venture? An online advertising company called Hypnotic Response, which we started in June 2008 with my still current business partner Ron Czyscon. We buy online advertising space on Yahoo for e.g., and then create banners and landing pages to help businesses to promote their products or services while creating a brand. It is still going and also expanding. I know you rub noses with a few celebrities, like my main man Ian Wright. Can you let my readers know a few names? I have shared a few drinks with a couple of the 1D guys, Niall and Liam. Was also introduced to Lewis Hamilton on our launch

87

night. Football is my main thing and Wrighty introduces me to so many, like at the Stevie G Foundation Golf Day. Lots of Arsenal players such as The Keeps (Seaman) and Lee Dixon. Had a coffee with Caroline Flack last week, and the celebs favourite Lizzie Cundy is a great friend. She always does a lot to help us out and we really appreciate it. She’s a lovely lady. Who do you get on with the most? Have to start with Ian Wright; he gives so much of his time to support YouGossip. He attends all the events we have and is particularly good at putting himself up for auction to help our Foundation. Lizzie Cundy is also such a grafter. We don’t know where she gets her energy from or the hours in the day to fit everything in. Now she does rub noses with celebrities.

How did the whole idea come about for YouGossip? My biz partner Ron was flying back to Florida reading an inflight magazine article about a woman who took a picture of the space shuttle taking off from Cape Canaveral from the seat of her airplane as it came through the clouds. She sold it to a daily paper in Tampa and went on to serve over 100 Million impressions on line. She got paid around $200 for it and it will have generated about $300,000 in advertising revenue. We thought lets create a platform for people to share their photos and have a fair 50% share of the profits. It was created for the general public to use and still is, then celebs got involved because of the charity side and here we are. What is the aim for the YouGossip’s brand? We would like it to become recognised with being a Social Media Feel Good App. Every time someone uploads a picture to YouGossip you have just done something nice for someone less fortunate. Let YouGossip be the brand that turns Social Media into a good thing! Since starting YouGossip, tell me some of the most exciting things that have happened with it? Watching the volume of people looking at the first picture Katie put up rise to over 20,000 per minute, and hoping the servers would hold up, fortunately they did, but we have had to add a lot more. Being invited backstage at a One Direction concert at the O2, and meeting the band. Being live in the Sky TV box at The Emirates for Arsenal v Everton. Also being at some of the Katie Price photo shoots, you never know what to expect. How did Ian Wright,

Katie Price and One Direction get involved in YouGossip? We were introduced to Ian by John Mitchell, (Ex Fulham), and he loved the idea right away. With Katie, we didn’t actually have a meeting booked but hijacked a friends meeting who was trying to pitch a perfume brand to her and her team. They loved the idea and have supported us all along. A club in London “Funky Buddha” is to be thanked for the 1D connection and meetings.

FREE on the IOS platform, (Android should be here by January). Once downloaded you can create an account or just login with Facebook. You can then take pictures whilst in the APP or choose from your library, we have similar filters to Instagram as well as many other fun ones. Upload the picture chosen then either Tweet it out or put onto Facebook to share and help generate revenue. This can also be done from a computer with the same process here: http://www.yougossip.co.uk

You have been in the entertainment circle for a while. How long have you been in it for? How did you get into it? You wouldn’t believe! About 18 months ago, it feels like forever, as there is always a party of some sort to attend. I guess I met a few people who know people and they invited me along to gigs or parties with them. As you know Mark, I am quite outgoing and generally happy so I kept getting invited back and there would be someone else there to meet and talk to about YouGossip.

Are there any other celebrities you would especially like to come on board? and why do you think we all should support this? It has got to be David Beckham. He doesn’t use Social Media right now, and for him to start by using YouGossip because it is for a good reason would be phenomenal. I encourage everyone, famous or not, lots of followers or few to use YouGossip. Every time you use it you are in some way gossiping for good, and by the way it is really easy and fun to use!

The brand is growing from strength to strength. Did you know it would do so well and create such an amazing buzz with the stars? We always felt that it would get there; it was just getting the right mix. We couldn’t just ask people to use YouGossip instead of Instagram etc. The big game changer is using YouGossip to benefit Charities. It makes such a big difference for them to be able to use Social Media and for others to gain. Especially when some of them get the chance to choose where the money goes that they generate. On the whole, what is YouGossip? YouGossip is an APP that you can download for

What would you like people to do if they wish to support the charity? Download YouGossip or open an account. Every time you use it, it makes money. In fact if we think about it, it is doing what you do already but with a different APP, and everytime you use it, it helps someone! Thanks Glenn! It’s been a great pleasure interviewing you and thanks for an amazing insight into the brand of the future. Download YouGossip for FREE on iTunes or on the website www.yougossip.co.uk

REGGAE OR NOT?

Evolution of reggae

O

ver the years we’ve seen reggae change, and it’s fascinating to witness the bizarre change of events that has accrued from the genre of reggae or what’s classed as something like reggae. In my eyes reggae music is music is the heart and soul where it all first began, from Bob Marley to UB40, endless amounts of success has been gained from reggae music over the years. Bringing either success or humiliation as a country we tend to admire the music regardless. Reggae within the late 1960’s reggae music was formed and developed from Mento, R&B and Ska music. At that time it was classed as a rocksteady world yet it shifted into reggae illustrated by the organ shuffle pioneered by Jamaican musicians like Jackie Mittoo and Winston Wright. We’ve all seen greats of reggae come and go regardless if we knew or didn’t it was always captivating to hear. In 1973 in a movie called The Harder They Come

starring Jimmy Cliff was released and introduced Jamaican music to cinema audiences outside of Jamaica. Although the film achieved cult status, having limited appeal meant that it had a smaller impact than Eric Clapton’s 1974 attempt cover of the legendary Bob Marley’s iconic ‘I shot the Sheriff’ which made it onto the playlist of mainstream rock and pop radio stations worldwide. Having being originally made and created in Jamaica which is fascinating if you look at thing in a different light. It makes you understand that we’re all the same, people are just people and music is just music regardless what ethnic background you are, you can still perform and produce great music for this genre. Later in the 1970s and early 80s the UK punk rock era flourished and reggae believe it or not was a notable influence on it. The DJ Don Letts would often play reggae and punk tracks at clubs such as

The Roxy. Punk bands such as The Clash, The Ruts, The Members and The Slits played many reggaeinfluenced songs which is interesting considering we as a population admire and love music regardless of what genre, but we seem to take reggae music and the history of the genre for granted. Around the same time punk music was happening reggae music took a drastic new path towards

the UK music industry. Creating two of the most incredible multiracial make up of England’s inner cities and exemplified groups like Steel Pulse, Aswad and the highly respected UB40. Reggae is always changing, I think that’s why it’s a genre that will never get forgotten about, new artists are adding new additions to their style of reggae music and the elder style old-school traditional flavour of music lives on. Music is always going to be changing as it’s influenced by life which always change. But as a passionate fan of music everyone should dig deeper behind the history of reggae and help live the spirits on, even though the incredible highly talented Bob Marley isn’t with us today. We all use his quotes of his songs without realising ‘Don’t worry, Everything little thing, is gonna be alright’ that’s how powerful the music of reggae genuinely is.
