WELCOME TO YEAR 3 (2024–25)

THE SCHOOL DAY

Drop Off – 8.00–8.25am

Children may be dropped off from 8.00am and play outside until the bell is rung (supervised by the members of staff on duty). The children then line up in front of the swimming pool at 8.25am in their year groups, where they are met by their teachers.

Pick Up – 4.00pm

Children are dismissed from the Morris House entrance of Upper School at 4.00pm unless they are attending aftercare or an after-school club.

WRAPAROUND CARE

Breakfast Club (bookable and chargeable) – 7.30–8.00am

Located in the dining hall (code needed to access site will be provided upon booking).

Upper School Aftercare (bookable and chargeable) – 4.00–6.00pm*

Children make their way to the Upper School library (tea is served in the dining hall at 5.00pm).

7.30–8.00am Breakfast club (charge)

8.00–8.25am Morning care – pupils supervised in the playground or dining hall (if wet)

8.25am Bell is rung to line up outside for registration

4.00pm End of school

4.00–6.00pm* Co-curricular clubs (charges may be applicable) and Upper School aftercare (charge)

* Aftercare ends at 5.00pm on a Friday

UNIFORM, BELONGINGS & SNACKS

UNIFORM CHANGES

There are some changes to the uniform in Year 3. Girls in Year 3 wear a tartan kilt and white openneck blouse in the winter instead of a grey tunic.

GAMES KIT

From Year 3 onwards, children should come into school in their games and PE kits on days they have these lessons (see the table below). Boot bags should be dropped into the changing rooms before they line up for morning registration. Please do not go into the changing rooms with your child.

STATIONERY

Children in Upper School need to bring in a pencil case, which should contain HB pencils, coloured pencils, a pencil sharpener, an eraser, a glue stick and a 15-cm ruler.

SNACKS

Children may have fruit and vegetables, a small sandwich or fruit loaf, cereal bars, flapjacks (these must not contain chocolate), plain bread sticks, rice cakes or crackers, plain popcorn, smoothies. Please remember we are a nut-free school, so no nuts or sesame. They also need to bring in a named water bottle each day.

HOMEWORK & REPORTING

SEESAW

Homework will be recorded in the Upper School Diary and made available on Seesaw. To record and communicate with us about reading, please use the Upper School Diary. There is an option on Seesaw to comment directly for specific pieces of work, or you can use the Upper School Diary. We check both Seesaw and the Upper School Diary regularly. The following homework is set each week:

• Reading aloud (10 minutes) daily – please record this in the Upper School Diary

• Spelling/Handwriting (5 minutes) daily

• Times tables (5 minutes) daily

• Maths – one activity a week (15 minutes)

• English – one activity a week (15 minutes)

REPORTING

There are Parents’ Evenings and formal written feedback in the autumn and spring terms. A full report is prepared at the end of the summer term.

WHERE TO FIND INFORMATION

PARENT HANDBOOK – Contains detailed information on all aspects of school life.

SPORTS HANDBOOK – Further information about PE, games and swimming at Chinthurst.

WEEK AHEAD – Contains information about the children’s learning for the following week. These are issued by class teachers via Seesaw on a Friday.

THE CHRONICLE – Includes a message from the Head, a round-up of school news from the previous week and school notices. This is issued each week during term time.

SOCIAL MEDIA – Follow the school’s Instagram and Facebook accounts to see lots of the fun activities that take place on a day-to-day basis.

PRINTED CALENDAR – Issued at the start of each term.

CLASSLIST – We encourage parents to register with www.classlist.com to connect with other parents in their own class, year group or the whole school.

SPORTS WEBSITE Contains details of sports fixtures.

SCHOOLSBUDDY APP

Has details and takes bookings for:

• Wraparound care

• Co-curricular clubs

• Trips

New parents receive a log-in before the beginning of term.

EVENTS

We hope to see you at our family events throughout the year. These include:

• Church Assemblies

• Year 3 Production

Year 3 also take part in Harvest, Easter and Christmas Services.
