St. Pius X Catholic School A Message from the Principal Season’s greetings! The faculty, staff and students of St. Pius X are very excited about the Advent season and the approach of the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a very special time of year in our school community because we are able pray together each day, celebrate the Eucharist, listen to the story of the First Noelle, and rejoice in the true meaning of Christmas. But as a school that provides a home away from home for three year olds all the way to thirteen year olds, we also understand the great excitement and anticipation that the “jolly old elf’ himself,” Santa Claus, brings to the season. And as we all delight in the smiles and laughter of our students that Santa and his flying reindeer bring to the holiday season, we remain very mindful that the greatest gift that we will receive this year will remain with us all long after the last Christmas tree is taken down.

The theme for December is

Caring and Generosity

Special points of interest:  Prayer and Share Day  Winter’s Night Out  Yearbook Ads  Giving Tree

That greatest gift of course is God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ, who freed us from sin and rewarded us with eternal life. This coming New Year, our school will continue to celebrate Christ’s daily presence in our lives and continue to serve those in need. On behalf of Father Walsh and our entire faculty and staff, I wish you all a very blessed and joyous Christmas, and a very healthy and happy New Year. Yours in Christ,

Our St. Pius X School choirs shared the joy of the season by traveling to Colonie Center and singing Christmas carols for the holiday shoppers under the direction of Ms. Eberhardt. Great job, choir members!

St. Pius Turkey Shoot!

The St. Pius X Shoot Turkey Shoot was a ball! Students from all grade levels attended and showed off their hoop skills to benefit St. Gabriel’s School in Haiti! To see more pictures of the event visit our Facebook page. The names of the top shooters and prize winners are on the next page. Thank you Mrs. Laberge and Mr. Hamlin for organizing this fun filled Christian service event!

Scotia Glenville Traveling Museum Comes to St. Pius! Our first graders had an opportunity to see and play with toys that children their age played with a hundred years ago.

Students travelled back in time to try on the clothes children wore many, many years ago.

DEUTERONOMY 15:10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Ms. McGuire's third grade students are testing their skills with computer programming! Students are writing computer code for “Angry Birds using Code Studio, which enables students to learn the basic concepts of computer programming.

This year, more than ever, local families are in need of our help. We are collecting gently used coats, and new mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves for adults and children from:

October 21st– December 12th. Let us help keep God’s children warm during this cold winter, as it would be truly a blessing for those in need. All clothing will be distributed to our brothers and sisters through Catholic Charities. Your items may be dropped off in the box located at the school entrances.

If you have any questions, please contact the front office.

St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please come around, something’ s been lost and can’t be found!

Please check to see if your child is missing any sweatshirts, coats, books, etc. Our lost and found is overflowing with things that have been left behind.

Free Dress Days: A reminder that all free dress days from the candy sale have to be redeemed by December 19th. Thank You!

Meatloaves Wanted ! Sacred Heart Food Pantry Needs Our Help As you might already know, our school conducts two food drives during the year for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry in North Albany, just miles from our school. We are in need of volunteers to make a meatloaf just once a month to provide a special meal each week for those families who rely on the food pantry. Sister Peg tells us her people love St.Pius X meatloaves. Some have even requested our school meatloaves instead of turkey for their Thanksgiving meal. Please consider joining us in feeding those less fortunate. Meatloaves, fresh or frozen, may be dropped off at the school. To help please contact mccreadyka@yahoo.com
