The Very Reverend Samuel G. Candler, Celebrant Hendricks Anthony, Preacher Grace and peace to you! We are the Body of Christ, connected spiritually and emotionally, and visually, even when we cannot gather together in person. Prepared in social distance for the common good, this liturgy honors the patterns of our tradition and is intended to facilitate our continued common prayer, as we share spiritual communion.

This Sunday is also “Youth Sunday.” We celebrate and give thanks for our Cathedral youth community! Cathedral Youth have prepared today’s Prayers of the People and will be serving this morning in various capacities, including acolyte, lector, intercessor, soloist, and preacher.

Jesus said to his disciples, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

We pray for unity in all of Christ’s church and for courage to stand for justice and love even when it is difficult.

We pray that the church can reach and serve all who need to hear about Jesus.

We pray for all people struggling with their faith or with finding God during these times.

Risen Lord, Hear our prayer.

We pray for our nation and all in authority: We pray for the leaders of the United Nations, for Joe our president, for the Congress and the courts, for Brian our governor, for Keisha our mayor; and for all leaders who are sacrificing for the common good or striving to do the right thing.

We pray for reconciliation and cooperation in our political systems.

Risen Lord, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the welfare of the world: We pray for eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to love in God’s name.

We pray for the care of our mother earth; for those who suffer the consequences of natural disaster; for recovery from this pandemic around the world; and for countries in dire need of Covid vaccine help.

We pray for humane resolutions for all countries struggling with war and political unrest.

We pray for all those without housing; and for all who face persecution.

activities; and for our medical workers, police, firefighters, and all who serve our communities.

We pray for those who will be traveling.

We pray for people in any need or trouble: We pray for all who are hospitalized, undergoing kidney dialysis, or suffering from depression or any mental health issues.

We pray for safety for all who live in fear of violence.

We pray for those who are suffering from Covid-19, social isolation, exhaustion, or financial insecurity.

We pray that we all emerge stronger and smarter from this pandemic.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
