Year 2IT lives today. Music at St Peter’s plays a vitally important part in our school curriculum across all year groups. It has a myriad of benefits, promoting an understanding of different cultures and can cultivate empathy in children by encouraging them to look at life from new perspectives. Furthermore, exposure to music can have long term benefits such as enhanced mathematical and language skills, early literacy development, improved auditory understanding and increased cognitive development. Music can also help with early socialisation skills, self expression and connectedness. By introducing the basics of music at St Peter’s 2-8 we create an environment where both children and teachers may reap the rewards for years to come. Most importantly it is so much fun, particularly when you perform together in choirs, ensembles and orchestras.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day by dressing as our favourite characters from books. We had Matilda’s, Harry Potters, Mr Men, Mary Poppins, Worzel Gummidge, Amelia Earhart, Willy Wonka to name but a few of the very many characters who had joined us in school. It really was wonderful to witness the fun the children had as they immersed themselves into character for the day. Huge thanks to you all for putting so much effort into preparing the costumes. A special mention must also go to the staff who all looked amazing dressed as their chosen characters from their theme text for the term. Everyone looked fabulous and hopefully this has helped to inspire a love of reading for all.

Today the Friends of St Peter’s 2-8 ran a nearly new uniform shop for parents to make purchases both before and after school. This is a fabulous enhancement for parents/ guardians of children attending 2-8 and my sincere thanks to all those who helped with set-up and ran the shop on the day.

Thank you also for your commiserations for Newcastle’s defeat at Wembley last Sunday. Seb and I had a magical day together, despite the 2-0 loss to Manchester United. Just a reminder that as the temperatures are due to drop once again next week, can I please ask you all to make sure children have their hats and coats with them in school.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
