Cherylyn Skewes commenced as Principal of St Peter’s Girls at the start of 2023, bringing a wealth of educational and leadership experience from Early Learning to Senior School.

She holds a Master of Education (Curriculum and Administration Studies) and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

With core teaching expertise in Years 7 to 12 English and German, Cherylyn’s career journey boasts breadth and depth. She held various leadership roles at St Peter’s College in Adelaide, was founding Principal of the reimagined Annesley Junior School and spent five years as Principal of Leibler Yavneh College in Melbourne.

In 2022, Cherylyn was invited to join Independent Schools Victoria as a Principal Consultant, developing strategies for school improvement with educational experts and Principals.

Our History

St Peter’s Girls’ School was established in North Adelaide in 1894 by the Community of the Sisters of the Church, pioneering English women who sailed to a settlement they knew little about on the other side of the world.

The Sisters arrived with very few possessions, but what they brought to our shores was priceless: a vision for quality girls’ education

The School moved to the beautiful leafy location of Stonyfell in 1957.

The School was managed by the Community of the Sisters of the Church until 1986 when a change in vocation within the Community resulted in the Sisters creating a different governance model and gifting the School to a Board of Governors.

A Place Like No Other

One of the elements that truly sets Saints Girls apart is our stunning campus at Stonyfell where first-class facilities are encased in natural beauty.

Our girls can immerse themselves in a gripping novel or a puzzling Maths question under the relaxed gaze of a koala in a tree above them. The tranquil calls of native birds resonate around the grounds, adding to the charm of this unique learning environment.

It’s not just our pristine setting; our buildings and facilities are first class. In recent years, our Master Plan has been transformational, delivering a series of key projects: expanding our Early Learners’ Centre, increasing access to additional sporting facilities in neighbouring Bell Yett Reserve, installing high speed network services to boost online learning, building a new Middle School and opening a new Library.

One of our biggest achievements is our Science Centre which was built in 2019 and has cemented Saints Girls as a national leader in STEM.

Featuring seven cutting-edge laboratories and impressive breakout areas, our Science Centre makes every day a new discovery at St Peter’s Girls. The building has also doubled the size of our Visual Arts space and delivered a new Junior School Art hub.

Our previous Science facility has been transformed with a dedicated Media Hub featuring sophisticated filming, lighting and editing equipment to elevate digital learning.

In addition, our Junior School has been reimagined with a new playground, new classrooms and breakout areas to further empower our girls.

Tradition of Academic Success

Our Class of 2023 reinforced our tradition of success across the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, with our students achieving these incredible highlights:

• Median ATAR – 93.95

• Top ATAR – 99.7

• 44% with ATAR of 95+ (top 5% nationally)

• 43 Merits

Willow Stewart-Rattray recorded the top ATAR, a score of 99.7, receiving The Emily Medal as Dux of the school 2023, with Merits in English, Chemistry and IB French alongside an A+ in Physics and Mathematical Methods and an A in Research Project.

Across our SACE cohort, more than two thirds of our students achieved an ATAR of 90+, placing them in the top 10% of the country. Indeed, the percentage of Stage 2 grades in the ‘A’ band was a phenomenal 77%, eclipsing the State figure of 32%.

Our SACE students flourished across all subject areas, including:

• 100% of our students in Digital Communications, Drama, English Literary Studies, Music, Research Project, Art and Design achieving grades in the A band.

• Over 80% of our students achieving a grade within the A band in Business Innovation, Chemistry, Dance, Food and Hospitality, and Physics.

• Merits being achieved across 11 SACE subjects.

IB Merits were achieved in Global Politics, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Chinese B and Psychology. Our students excelled across all disciplines with ‘A’ grade highlights including English (50%), Languages (69%), Humanities (86%), Sciences (60%) and Arts (75%).

In addition to SACE and IB results, so many of our girls are allrounders, striving for success and growth across the board. In 2023, Saints Girls excelled across sport, The Arts, public speaking and speciality academic domains, delivering incredible performances whilst attracting local and national accolades.

These achievements reflect the diligence and dedication of our students, supported by first-class educators and mentors.

Staying at the forefront of technology is essential in today’s fast-paced learning climate and St Peter’s Girls’ School is a trailblazer in the field.

Saints Girls are thriving in stateof-the-art spaces designed for the learners of tomorrow including our leading-edge Science Centre, multiuse Maker Space, a dynamic area for digital learning and creative technologies, and industry-standard Media Hub. With pursuits ranging from coding and robotics to 3D printing and drone piloting, our girls have the tech world at their feet.

To support essential digital learning devices such as laptops and tablets, the School recently completed a major IT infrastructure refresh incorporating a significant upgrade to our wireless network and the provision of 24/7 uninterrupted system access.

On the curriculum front, innovative elective subjects in Year 10 such as Film Production (including Certificate III in Screen and Media) and Space Design Enterprise ‘Mission to Mars’ reflect our commitment to STEM and the rapidly-changing world around

us. In fact, our creative approach to STEM teaching in Year 10 has been recognised with our inclusion on The Educator’s list of Innovative Schools

Another STEM highlight is our annual Girls in Tech Expo, where students from local primary schools join our girls for a day of interactive workshops covering coding, Artificial Intelligence, drone technology and more.

These initiatives have elevated the School’s standing as an educational leader in STEM, with more of our graduates selecting fields such as engineering for their University studies to pursue the careers of tomorrow.

Across our STEM offerings we have had much success. In recent years, various teams of girls have claimed top prizes in prestigious competitions such as the Microsoft AI for Good Challenge, Shark Tank eSchool and REA’s Space in Schools Program.

Signature Programs

To give our students the best start in life, we run a host of wellbeing programs and initiatives exclusive to St Peter’s Girls’ School.

#EMPOWHER WELLBEING PROGRAM

The School delivers a groundbreaking, age appropriate wellbeing program tailor-made for our students.

The creation of this bespoke program is a key pillar of the School’s Strategic Plan which is cementing our reputation as a national leader in all girls’ education and wellbeing.

#EMPOW HER was developed specifically for our girls following comprehensive surveys of students and our families.

The #EMPOW HER curriculum for Years 7 to 12 flows into Home Group sessions twice a week where our girls are provided with a range of tools to tackle various challenges facing young women including stress, mental health, self-esteem, sleep and social media.

As part of the #EMPOW HER program students hear from inspirational speakers such as 2023 Australian of the Year Taryn Brumfitt, Adelaide Crows AFLW Player Anne Hatchard and National and International Drug and Alcohol Educator Paul Dillon.

The Junior School curriculum was launched following the Middle and Senior School rollout, and program content continues to evolve to meet the needs of our girls. The URStrong program has been implemented to support the students, teachers and families. Students are taught the skills and language to assist in establishing and maintaining healthy relationships while also increasing their ability to be resilient.

Topics and tools are also shared with our parent community, as successful wellbeing programs empower schools and parents to work in partnership.

CAREER.READY PROGRAM

At Saints Girls, we believe in the power of quality career education.

As a continually evolving space within schools, best practice asserts that the majority of career education content should be covered before students enter Year 12.

Designed for Years 7 to 12, our new bespoke and future-focused Career.Ready program aims to equip our girls for the everchanging digital age and connect them with industry to set the foundations for success.

Teaching content is drawn from the Australian Blueprint for Career Development as well as intensive programs taught in other states, with emphasis placed on enabling students to make sound career choices by better understanding their passions and preferences.

Girls in each year group also complete career action plans, exploring with their teachers and parents the resulting data and insights in order to revisit and adjust their plans each year.

The program incorporates our popular JobChat initiative which allows our students to delve into their fields of interest by connecting them with industry professionals including many of our talented Old Scholars.

In parallel, St Peter’s Girls host a Scientist in Residence throughout the year to help further ignite and nurture the STEM spark in our girls and show them where science can take them. The School facilitates regular seminars and workshops across a wide crosssection of careers.

LEADERSHIP MATTERS PROGRAM

To complement and work in triplicate with our #EMPOW HER wellbeing and Career.Ready programs, Saints Girls has proudly introduced our new bespoke Leadership program: Leadership Matters

The program is named after Muriel Matters who was studying at University in Adelaide when our School was founded in 1894, the same year women in South Australia gained the right to vote. Muriel went on to campaign courageously for female suffrage in the UK, and as such, her legacy inspires our values and skills we wish to instil in our girls today.

Our Leadership Matters program is based on research from academic papers on student leadership from around the world, as well as an audit of best practice from national and international schools.

The program is arranged into four domains:

Self-Leadership: understanding emotions, self-regulation, personal values, motivation, strengths, weaknesses and personal wellbeing.

Fostering Positive Relationships: how empathy, trust, inclusiveness, conflict resolution, collaboration, and the ability to motivate and empower others combine to help build great teams.

Goal Achievement: harnessing communication, problem-solving, agile thinking, time management and project management skills to bring ideas and projects to fruition.

Taking the Lead – Taking Action: carefully curated practical opportunities to experience and reflect upon leadership moments.

Core content has been tailored for our students across Years 7 to 11, and we hope to reinforce to all of our girls that everyone can experience and share moments of leadership.

EDGE PROGRAM

Our EDGE (Extended, Differentiated and Gifted Education) Program is designed to stimulate and challenge all students. Our EDGE Coordinator works with teachers to complement and enrich the curriculum in our classrooms, whilst also leading additional activities to ensure gifted and talented students can extend themselves by participating in other rigorous and stimulating learning opportunities. The program focuses on developing the skills of creativity, critical thinking and collaboration through the disciplines of Philosophy, STEM, Critical Literacy and Design Thinking.

Students are able to work with a range of specialists including our Scientist in Residence, School Psychologist, Old Scholar professionals and external industry experts to gain realworld perspectives and insights. They also have the opportunity to showcase their creative talents by publishing and contributing works to our annual Arts Journal, Out of the Blue

Many of our girls put their learning to the test through competitions and other external activities. Year after year, their passion and dedication yield local, national and international accolades with highlights across the da Vinci Decathlon, Philosophy, Ethics, Linguistics, STEM and more.

SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM

What is Service Learning?

Service Learning is the active participation in meaningful service of others, for all students from ELC to Year 12 to grow in genuine, meaningful and practical service towards others through School supported opportunities.

We recognise the importance of service learning and giving back to our community, and we do so with a significant part of our program undertaken through our House Charities. Each of our Houses has a charity that they partner with which enables them to engage with the wider community.

Our Year 10 Home Groups have the responsibility of running the House charity activities across the year with each student engaging with their house charity in a range of different ways from volunteering to fundraising.

This hands-on experience allows our students to demonstrate compassion to those around them in practical ways whilst giving back to our wider community and allowing them to practice their leadership, organisation, and collaboration skills.

A range of immersion experiences are also offered to our students as part of the service learning program.

OUR PATHWAY TO SCHOOL

At St Peter’s Girls, we provide our bespoke Pathway to School program, a highly focused ELC-to-school experience for all ELC children during the twelve months prior to starting school as Receptions.

Based in newly renovated flexible and dynamic learning spaces within our ELC, our Pathway to School program is led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers across the ELC and Junior School.

To complement the globallyrecognised learning experiences that take place across our Centre, children are engaged in an extended range of focused learning opportunities aimed at setting them up for a successful and positive start to school.

Fundamental capabilities that are accelerated through our Pathway to School program include social, emotional and self-management skills further developing independence, organisation and resilience. Literacy, numeracy and STEM explorations are amplified daily during rich inquiries and interwoven play activities, guided by problem-solving and creativity. Crucially, our Pathway to School program places children’s wellbeing at the centre as we focus on their individual growth.

Early Learners’ Centre

The School sets the foundations for learning in our Early Learner’s Centre (ELC), a cherished place where girls and boys aged two to five can discover, create and connect.

Our children are guided by a talented team of qualified Early Childhood professionals who expertly lead them on their learning journey. Our newly renovated building features thought-provoking outdoor play spaces and inspiring rooms that harness transparency and connection.

The Centre’s educational practice is underpinned by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), influenced by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy which promotes the development of identity, enhanced learning possibilities and empathy.

The ELC’s outstanding work in this space has been recognised by educators in South Australia and across the country for the excellence it demonstrates in Early Childhood Education. Our educators are active contributors to local and global education networks including the Reggio Emilia Australia Information Exchange (REAIE).

We have a strong history and connection with the Reggio Emilia Approach, with educators visiting Reggio Emilia in Italy for professional development and expansion of our international network.

Our commitment to sharing indigenous history and culture has also been celebrated with a national honour for outstanding commitment to reconciliation in education. Indeed, our trailblazing work in reconciliation and environmental sustainability has been harnessed and symbolised in our Hallett Road playspace and garden.

Our ELC is comprised of two captivating Learning Communities; one for the Stonyfell and Bell Yett rooms (children aged 2 to 3.5 years), another for the Erindale, Pathway Hallett and Pathway Ferguson rooms (children aged 3.5 to 5 years, which encompasses our Pathway to School program for children 12 months prior to starting reception).

Attendance is 2 - 5 days a week, with our 4 and 5 year olds required to attend a minimum of 3 days.

Qualified Early Childhood teachers oversee the educational program between 8.30am and 3.30pm during term time, and our seamless extended hours and Vacation Care offerings are supported by the same Diploma-qualified (or higher) educators who work within the school-hours program.

A unique feature of the ELC is its location, right next to the spectacular Ferguson Conservation Park which has become a key habitat for the children’s learning.

Another exclusive aspect is the ability for girls who start in the ELC to continue their educational journey into Reception and beyond, all on one campus in a continuously nurturing and supportive environment.

Community is the bedrock of life at our ELC. We consider ourselves an extended family, and we welcome new members to our community with open arms.

PLAYGROUP AND VACATION CARE

We also offer weekly Playgroup sessions for children aged 6 months to 2 years accompanied by their parents or carers, and we run a flexible and stimulating Vacation Care program each school holiday period for ELC students aged 2 to 5.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Our ELC is open from 7.30am - 6pm, Monday to Friday and operates for 50 weeks of the year. We are closed on public holidays.

CHILD CARE SUBSIDY

St Peter’s Girls’ ELC is an Approved Child Care Centre and therefore registered for the Child Care Subsidy. Eligible families can claim a subsidy for all long day care programs.

To receive the Child Care Subsidy, families must meet immunisation requirements. Further information regarding eligibility is available from Services Australia.

Junior School

The Junior School is a vibrant and contemporary learning environment for young and inquiring minds from Reception through to Year 6.

These are the fundamental years of schooling, in which our students develop firm foundations in literacy and numeracy, as well as personal, social and emotional skills that enable them to be successful, resourceful and resilient young learners.

Incorporating the Australian Curriculum, the Junior School teaching and learning program and methodologies are based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), covering Humanities and Social Sciences, English, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Science, Digital and Design Technologies and Health and Physical Education. Through inquiry, action and reflection, the IB philosophy aims to develop a range of competencies and dispositions that include skills for thinking, working with others, communicating, self-management and research.

In addition, students engage in a variety of lessons taught by specialist teachers including Languages, Music, Technologies, Visual Arts, Physical Education, and Guided Inquiry and Research.

Our co-curricular offerings are also dynamic and diverse. Through music, sport and many other activities, we encourage our girls to delve into their skills and passions.

The Year 5 Production is a major highlight in our school calendar, allowing our students to develop confidence as they explore acting, song and dance. Girls gain further life experience on a variety of camps and study trips aimed at building resilience and inquiry. In Year 6, every student has the opportunity to take on extra responsibilities as Peer Leaders, becoming role models for our younger girls.

Our Junior School classrooms and breakout spaces are bright, open and take advantage of the beautiful natural outlook of the grounds and adjacent reserve of Ferguson Conservation Park. Modern flexible furniture allows for students to work individually and in small or large groups. A dedicated Junior School Art room and Library complement the rich classroom and specialist teaching program.

Through research, reflection and continual improvement, our Junior School curriculum strengths include:

• Consistent approaches to literacy and numeracy learning from Reception to Year 6.

• An inquiry approach to linguistic development including a strong phonics foundation using THRASS methodologies, VCOP and Big Write as components of the writing program.

• A focus on the ‘Big Ideas’ in number as central to the development of robust skills and understandings in Mathematics.

• Rich trandisciplinary units of inquiry studied at every year level, embedding Australian Curriculum knowledge and understandings within the PYP Framework.

• A school funded 1:1 iPad program for all Junior School students.

• A strong digital technologies curriculum, utilising a diverse range of equipment and resources.

• An intensive languages program in Chinese, French or additional English.

• Opportunities for Mandarin Background speakers to continue to develop their language proficiency.

• Mind Lab – a hands-on strategy games curriculum focusing on emotional, social and cognitive capabilities.

• An embedded bespoke wellbeing program, including an intentional friendship skills curriculum.

Middle School

Our Middle School features open and flexible learning spaces, spectacular views of Ferguson Conservation Park and the latest technology to ignite young minds.

The Middle School is a dynamic learning environment for girls in Years 7, 8 and 9. Catering for the academic needs of adolescent girls and their developing social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual domains.

Led by highly-qualified and caring staff, our teaching and learning revolves around our Middle School Academic Framework, clearly identifying the skills and attributes we aim to build in our students. We empower them to be adaptive learners, ethical and motivated individuals who collaborate, communicate and think creatively to achieve their best.

We offer a robust curriculum designed to extend each girl’s abilities and lay a solid foundation for her senior years, equipping her with a wide range of knowledge and skills. It covers the learning requirements outlined in the Australian Curriculum and provides special interest courses.

As well as undertaking core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science, students study a language; French or Chinese. Our girls also choose from a range of electives including Drama, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Geography, Creative Technologies and Food Technology.

In Years 7 and 8, students participate in Futures, an in-house program that develops the skills of leadership, project management, problem solving, and creative and critical thinking. They create businesses, travel agencies, and short films to connect these skills to real-world experiences and life.

Girls also participate in a variety of vibrant co-curricular activities, and our progressively challenging Outdoor Education program builds resilience and teamwork as girls embark on annual camps.

Senior School

Building on the foundations of our Junior and Middle Schools, our Senior School sets us apart as a leader in education, discovery and wellbeing.

Our Senior School curriculum provides Year 10, 11 and 12 students with flexibility and choice as they take responsibility for their own learning under the guidance of our expert teaching staff.

We encourage them to embrace co-curricular activities and the community spirit of the School. Crucially, we also empower our girls through our dedicated wellbeing program, giving them the tools to face the challenges that lie ahead.

YEAR 10

In Year 10, students study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Physical Education and the SACE Stage 1 subject Activating Identities and Futures (previously known as Personal Learning Plan).

Activating Identities and Futures is a compulsory SACE subject, undertaken in Year 10 at St Peter’s Girls. Students consider their

aspirations by researching career, training and further study choices. By mapping their future, they identify their learning goals and plan how they can be achieved. A practical component of this course is a formal workplace learning placement, which provides a realworld learning opportunity.

Students also select elective subjects from a variety of areas to broaden and support their learning and developing interests. Options could include Economics, Forensic Science, Film Production, Justice and Society, High Performance (Sports Coaching), World of Food and Psychology.

Options within our Performing Arts faculty include Music, Visual Arts, Drama and Dance. Languages on offer are French and Chinese.

SACE

The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is an internationally-recognised qualification that leads to a variety of tertiary studies, training and career opportunities. At St Peter’s Girls, students complete SACE requirements over a three-year period by starting their Exploring Identities and Futures subject in Year 10.

Year 11 students study the SACE Stage 1 subjects (including a full year of English, and at least a semester of Mathematics) as well as the Stage 2 Research Project, where they gain valuable research, referencing and analytical skills.

In Year 12, students complete their Stage 2 subjects.

At St Peter’s Girls, students can choose from 24 SACE subjects across a range of disciplines.

In making their selections, girls are supported to gain the skills and knowledge they need to successfully engage in their future careers and life choices.

GIRLS’

IB DIPLOMA

An International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) education aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring graduates who create a better world through intercultural understanding and responsibility.

St Peter’s Girls is the only independent all girls school to offer this highly sought after programme in the State.

The IB is an exciting and challenging two-year course that leads to a highly regarded qualification, preparing students for success in lifelong learning and opens doors locally and globally for tertiary studies.

The IB Diploma curriculum emphasises both breadth and depth of knowledge. Students study six subjects and three core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE). Theory of Knowledge provides the skills to critique knowledge, CAS is a creativity, physical activity and service programme, and the Extended Essay engages students in independent research.

Students choose three subjects to study at a higher level and three subjects at a standard level across multiple disciplines. IB subjects may include:

The majority of our graduates attend universities in Australia, with others studying at universities in the UK, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore. They study a wide range of degrees from Medicine to Marketing, Quantum Physics to Physiotherapy.

IB graduates speak very highly and passionately of their experiences in the Programme and its benefits in preparing them for study at university. The critical thinking and time management skills learned as well as the experience gained by engaging in the Programme are invaluable assets for students intending to undertake tertiary study. IB graduates also take into their future endeavours an experience of understanding current and relevant global issues.

Performing Arts

Our outstanding Performing Arts program gives our girls the confidence, guidance and resources to explore their passions and master their craft.

DANCE

From our ELC through to Year 12, students are given countless opportunities to experience the joy of dance. Our Music and Drama performances, Year 5 Production and biennial School Musical provide a stage for our girls to perform in front of live audiences.

Saints Girls are delivering compelling performances and outstanding results, particularly in Senior School.

St Peter’s Girls is one of few schools that offer Dance at SACE and IB levels. Our students are enjoying a growing number of rich performance opportunities, industry workshops and exposure to world-leading choreographers and dancers.

Our Performing Arts program highlights a range of offerings including FUSION, a biennial offering which runs in alternate years to our School Musical. Open to students of all abilities across Years 7 to 12, the end product is a mixture of live music, song and dance from a selection of musicals.

Co-curricular dance classes are offered to Year 4 to 6 students in which they are introduced to different genres of dance. They have the opportunity to perform to a live audience fostering a love for the stage.

MUSIC AND INSTRUMENTAL TUITION

The School’s multi award-winning Music program combines all the right notes to foster a passion for performance and music in all of its forms. More than half of our students play an instrument or learn voice. The School runs over 20 co-curricular ensembles with almost 350 girls participating in weekly rehearsals.

In 2023, our Music students attracted national and international accolades across a host of competitions and activities. Our talented vocal ensembles won 1st place in multiple divisions at Generations in Jazz and achieved outstanding results across strings and band divisions at the ABODA Music Festival.

The School’s epic Cabaret Music Concert has become a feature of our events schedule, showcasing collaborations with acclaimed performers. All Middle and Senior girls participate in our annual Choral Night and can also extend their talents in our biennial School Musical or FUSION Performing Arts Collaboration.

Another highlight is our annual Music Camp in Term 1, where Music students from Years 5 to 12 build a culture of family within ensembles across the year levels.

Saints Girls enjoy fantastic live performance opportunities on stage, on air and in collaboration with world-renowned artists and composers. Our vocal ensembles also have songs on Spotify and professional music videos.

Music is embraced by all year groups and we provide a coordinated academic pathway for girls who wish to continue studying Music throughout their Senior schooling and beyond.

All Year 2, 3 and 4 students participate in the School’s Immersion Program playing recorder and a string or band instrument as part of their music curriculum.

In addition to Music lessons offered as part of the curriculum, private instrumental or voice tuition can be coordinated with our Music tutors.

DRAMA

Drama plays a respected role at St Peter’s Girls. Our dedicated staff give students the skills and direction they need to flourish, both on stage and behind the scenes. Specialist workshops are also held throughout the year to empower our students through practical exercises and theoretical wisdom. We facilitate a number of excursions as well as inviting artists to perform at the School.

The School’s curriculum introduces Drama at a young age, fostering a passion for theatre that blossoms with our Year 5 Production, steadily building up to studies in Years 11 and 12 where SACE and IB students perform dynamic pieces.

VISUAL ARTS

St Peter’s Girls has unveiled new Visual Arts facilities, doubling the previous floor space and delivering a dedicated Junior School Art hub.

The School’s Visual Arts curriculum stimulates and inspires our ELC to Year 12 students to explore their creativity, push the boundaries and challenge their thinking.

Our girls are given the guidance and freedom to express their individuality in anything from paint to plaster. While traditional art is extremely prominent, technology has also become a major focus. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the latest design software and equipment to produce a range of dynamic artworks and products.

Each year, our SACE and IB students illustrate their talents in vibrant exhibitions, gaining valuable real-world experience.

It is this creative support, combined with our enthusiastic educators and first-class resources that set Saints Girls apart in Visual Arts.

As part of our rich Arts cocurricular offering Art Club is offered to Year 6 to 12 students with an interest in exploring and extending their visual art and design skills.

Sports

Sport is part of the fabric at Saints Girls. Our students take a range of activities in their stride, building confidence, strength, coordination and teamwork.

St Peter’s Girls’ School provides many opportunities for our students to participate in and study sport.

Our sporting programs complement the needs of our students – regardless of age, strength, skills or mobility –through a model of START, TRAIN and PERFORM

START: we ensure that students can try new sports and regularly step outside their comfort zone to engage in physical literacy programs on a social level, thus developing a ‘fit4life’ mindset.

TRAIN: once engaged in a program, we encourage students to push their limits and strive to improve through appropriate challenges, quality coaching and a supportive environment.

PERFORM: for students who are focused on a high level of participation in sport, we provide solid ground that best supports their ambitions and goals through added academic management and effective mentoring and guidance.

Our School has been enjoying unprecedented success in the sporting arena. In recent years, Saints Girls have posted incredible results across an array of sports, with particular prowess in Athletics and Swimming. Other accolades have been achieved in Rowing, Aerobics, Volleyball, Touch Football, Cross Country, Water Polo and more.

Above and beyond the official sports offered by St Peter’s Girls, we embrace and support other options to cater for student and staff interest and expertise.

School Life

While our School prides itself on our girls’ academic, sporting and cultural achievements, there is so much more to life at Saints Girls.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Junior School students belong to a Class, while Middle and Senior School students are allocated to Home Groups. Their Class or Home Group Teacher is their primary contact, providing pastoral care and guiding them on a path to success and happiness. Students in Years 7 to 12 are also supported by a Head of Year Level. Heads of Year Level in partnership with the Home Group teacher are responsible for the care and wellbeing of every student in their respective cohort. The Head of Year Level assumes responsibility in the areas of pastoral care, student welfare and student transition. This structure helps fuel the self-belief of our girls and their ability to address issues such as personal and cyber safety, study skills and time management.

In the Senior years, their Home Group allocation is based on their School House. They stay with the same Home Group teacher for

those three Senior years which fosters House pride and continuity of support.

Students also have a strong connection with their Head of Sub-School, and can access the School’s Psychologist, Registered Nurses, Chaplain and the coordinator of Student Services.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

St Peter’s Girls is on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), enabling international students to join our community. The School can arrange accredited homestay accommodation, which costs a fraction of the price of typical school boarding facilities.

International students enjoy a comprehensive support network including a dedicated International Student Coordinator, personal counselling, EAL/D teaching and access to specialised tutoring.

CHAPEL

Chapel Services are held throughout each term, allowing our girls to develop and strengthen core values. Led by the School’s Chaplain, the services embody our Anglican principles and traditions through song and prayer. They offer a time for reflection and are a key component of our pastoral care.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Various leadership opportunities provide our girls with valuable qualities and experience which they can use in later life.

In Year 6, all students have a leadership role, undertaking a special Leadership program involving workshops and mentoring. In Year 9, girls can become Middle School Leaders. Opportunities also exist in other year levels in areas such as sport and music.

Students in Year 12 can be inducted into the School’s formal Prefect system, building their skills while acting as role models to younger girls.

St Peter’s Girls has also launched a new bespoke Leadership program to lift our girls to even greater heights.

CLUBS

Beyond our Performing Arts and Sports offerings, our girls can join a variety of clubs, committees and programs that appeal to their interests and curiosities. Opportunities include Public Speaking, Debating, Chess Club, Environment Club, Library Club, Code Club, APEX, Art Club and Philosophy Club.

HOUSE SYSTEM

An integral part of the School’s fabric is our House system. Generations of students at St Peter’s Girls have belonged to one of four Houses: Kennion, Kilburn, Patteson or Selwyn. The Houses are named after key figures in our School’s history. For decades, these four Houses have inspired healthy rivalry through academic, sporting and cultural competitions.

House events include Choral Night, Sports Day, Swimming Carnival, an annual dinner and Spirit Week, as well as charitable activities demonstrating our passion for service learning.

POCKET POINTS

The School’s Pocket Points program is a popular and prestigious honours system within St Peter’s Girls.

It recognises Middle and Senior School students for excellence and dedicated representation of the School. Girls earn points for their House in areas such as Sport, Music, Debating, Community Service and Chapel. When a set amount of points is accumulated, the recognition is displayed across the student’s blazer pocket through stripes and embroidered initials.

Scholarship Opportunities

St Peter’s Girls’ School offers a range of Scholarships to acknowledge and encourage excellence.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Students entering Years 5 to 11 are eligible to apply for our Academic Scholarships. Applicants are required to sit the annual Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) scholarship examination.

PRINCIPAL’S SCHOLARSHIP

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Talented musicians can apply for our dedicated Music Scholarships. Applicants may be current or external students entering Years 7 to 11. Girls with outstanding ability in Years 5 and 6 may also apply in special circumstances.

OLD SCHOLARS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS

This Scholarship is open to external students entering Years 5 to 8. It is awarded to a student who has proven all-round ability and who has a connection to the School through a family member having attended St Peter’s Girls in the past.

SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year a select number of Sport Scholarships may be awarded to external students entering Years 7 – 11. To be eligible, students must have a strong academic record and a proven ability to perform at an elite level in their sporting disciplines.

PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year a select number of Performing Arts Scholarships may be awarded to internal and external students entering Years 5 – 11. To be eligible, students must have a minimum of four years dance training, have a strong academic record and a proven ability to perform at an elite level. All successful students must continue studying Performing Arts through to Year 12.

Saints Success Stories

THE HON JULIE BISHOP (KILBURN 1973)

Julie Bishop graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide in 1978 and attended Harvard Business School in Boston in 1996, completing the Advanced Management Program.

Before entering parliament, she was a commercial litigation lawyer. She became a partner in 1985 and was a managing partner from 1994 to 1998.

Julie was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Curtin in 1998 and was Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party from 2007 to 2018.

She has served as a Minister in a range of portfolios including Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2018 and has been Acting Prime Minister. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Adelaide in 2017. In 2020, Julie commenced her term as Chancellor of the Australian National University, the first woman to be appointed to this position.

MELANIE COOPER AM (KENNION 1977)

Melanie Cooper became the first female and the first of the fifth generation to be employed at the family’s iconic Coopers Brewery.

After completing a degree in Economics, she was employed by Price Waterhouse as a Chartered Accountant. She joined the brewery in 1985 as assistant accountant, and in 1989, was appointed Company Secretary and later Director of Finance.

Melanie has been Director of Coopers Brewery since 2009 and Chair of its Foundation since 2011, holding Board positions on other industry-related and charitable foundations. In 2014 she was invited to join the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership for a three-year term.

Melanie was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia Medal (AM) in 2017 for services to philanthropy and leadership. In 2023 Melanie was appointed as Chair of Coopers Brewery becoming the first female Chair in its 161-year history.

DR LAURA EADIE (SELWYN 2001)

Dr Laura Eadie is an award-winning Biomedical Researcher whose love of Science began at Saints Girls. She completed her PhD in Medicine (2013) with a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence.

She is the current Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellow and a previous recipient of a prestigious Australian-American Fulbright award which allowed her to develop her ongoing research strategy at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, which is one of the premier research hospitals in the world.

Dr Eadie works in the field of high-risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and leads a team within the ALL Genomics and Functional Biology Group at SAHMRI. She is nationally and internationally recognised as an emerging leader in her field and has been awarded more than $2.5M in funding as a Chief Investigator. She is a TEDx speaker and was a Top 10 Fresh Scientist SA (2017) awarded by Science in Public for excellence in science communication.

SOPHIE LINN (PATTESON 2012)

Olympic Athlete, Sophie Linn, became involved in sport at Saints Girls from the outset. As well as proudly representing the School, she has also competed for South Australia across Swimming, Athletics, Softball and Cross Country. Her first National team was at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 where she claimed Silver in the 1500m.

Sophie was awarded a scholarship at the University of Michigan, completing Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degrees in Sport Business and Human Computer Interaction, and competing in Athletics and Cross Country.

Following her studies, Sophie joined US fitness technology company Wahoo Fitness as a user experience/interface (UX/UI) designer, whilst simultaneously transitioning to the sport of Triathlon.

She represented Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, placing 5th in the Women’s Individual event and winning Bronze in the Mixed Team Relay. In 2023, Sophie took out the title of Arena Games Triathlon World Champion in London.

ERIN McKELLAR (PATTESON 2013)

Erin McKellar is a talented composer and songwriter with honours including the Helpmann Academy Award for Voice and dual Downbeat Awards. She is currently completing her Doctorate of Music Arts in Music Theatre Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

She premiered her original musical A Box of Memories, in Sydney, opening in partnership with HammondCare and Adelaide Fringe after the show won BankSA’s Best Theatre Award. She has also composed music for shows such as Express and I AM ME!.

Erin’s songwriting credits include the Eurovision Australia Decides song ‘Bite Me’ for G-Nat!on, TikTok star Rory Eliza’s single ‘Young’, Natasha Bianca’s ‘Girl Like Me’ which reached No. 8 on the WAEVZ R&B chart, the 2021 The Voice single ‘Mad About You’ for G-Nat!on, and Emmagen Rain’s single ‘For You’ which hit No. 1 on the Triple J Unearthed chart.

In addition, her music has been heard on Bonds Australia, Target USA and PEMCO Insurance USA advertisements. She is also the Music Supervisor and Composer for HammondCare’s Series 2 podcast, and is continuing to expand her career in the UK.

THENU HERATH (PATTESON 2015)

Former Deputy Head Prefect Thenu Herath was named by Young Australians in International Affairs as being among the Young Women to Watch in International Affairs for 2022.

Thenu is a Board Member of Oaktree, a youth-run international development agency that works to empower young people in the Asia-Pacific region through initiatives such as targeted education programs, sustainable development projects and climate change mitigation strategies.

Alongside this vital role, she has completed her Juris Doctor graduate law degree and is working with Global Citizen NOW.

School Bus Service

Getting your daughter to and from school safely and on time is an important part of daily life at St Peter’s Girls.

We offer a convenient, personalised bus service for our School families, catering for students who live in all areas of Adelaide. We have five 24seat buses which start at Mawson Lakes, Golden Grove, West Lakes, Brighton and Mount Barker, and three 11-seat vans; one servicing the Magill area, one starting in Blackwood another starting at Glenelg.

To ensure we are providing a convenient service for our School families, the exact route that each bus takes is regularly reviewed based on the addresses of students.

When and where possible our bus service provides a door-todoor service as determined by the Transport Manager. If a door-todoor service is not possible for your home address, our bus staff will communicate with you to determine a suitable alternative drop-off/ collection point.

Our buses and vans are operated by experienced and qualified drivers, who are part of our staff, chosen to meet the high standards set by the School. All vehicles are equipped with mobile phones for last minute bookings, cancellations and emergency communication.

The Out of School Hours Care is licensed as an Approved Child Care Service.Eligible families can access the Child Care Subsidy, making child care more affordable. Accounts for Out of School Hours Care are issued monthly.

VACATION CARE

Vacation Care programs are available for children from Reception to Year 6. The cost per session is:

• Full day $115 (plus excursion costs where applicable)

• Half day $75

PAYMENT OF FEES

Payment can be made by BPAY, credit card (Mastercard and Visa), cheque or cash. Please note, payments by credit card attract a 1% surcharge. EFTPOS facilities are available. An Automated Card Payment Authority can be put in place for payments by credit card, ensuring all accounts are paid by the due date. For an Application Form, please contact the School.

Where no prior arrangement has been made, accounts not paid by the due date will be charged an administration fee of $100. The School has the right to charge interest at the current bank overdraft rate on accounts after a further 30 days.

On each semester account, our families have the option to make a voluntary donation to the Foundation’s Building Fund of $250 per family is shown. This sum is tax deductible and is allocated to the Foundation to support the St Peter’s Girls’ School Building Program.

FIXED CHARGE

The Fixed Charge is compulsory and covers curriculum activities, student services costs and expenditure on items that benefit all students such as:

• School camps, excursions and activities

• Planned excursions and theatrical performances

• Sports participation - swimming and athletics carnivals and IGSSA competitions

• Resource fees and subject-related materials, e.g. art materials, Food Technology supplies and Science consumables

• School House activities

• School Diary and School Yearbook

• Student accident insurance which covers ambulance transfers if needed

Non-compulsory programs such as, but not limited to, rowing and music instrument hire, incur additional charges and are not included in the Fixed Charge.

ICT LEVY

For students in Reception to Year 12, the Monthly Instalment Option allows for the payment of the tuition fees, ICT Levy and the 2025 Fixed Charge over 10 months from January to October inclusive. An annual service fee of $100 applies. Please contact the School if you wish to take up this option.

For alternative payment options, parents may choose to obtain a payment plan from Edstart . Edstart is a specialist provider that offers tailored funding packages for school fees and allows parents to extend payment over a longer timeframe. In providing information about Edstart, the School does not provide any recommendations, brokering or advice services. The School does not receive referral fees, commissions or other remuneration from Edstart.

The ICT Levy funding focuses on providing long-term infrastructure that delivers reliable ICT solutions in a responsible environment. Furthermore, the ICT Levy ensures that the School introduces new and innovative solutions to assist in the development of educational ‘anywhere-anytime’ learning platforms.

This is facilitated by a state-of-the-art secure wireless service, high speed fibre optic internet service, external Virtual Private Network (VPN) Access, interactive panels, Apple TVs and up-to-date software/ anti virus which are all secured in our on-site data centre and stored off-site to ensure constant availability. The School has high quality multi-functional scanning and printing devices across the campus.

ANNUAL FEES

It is the practice of the Board of Governors to determine the annual fees for each year in November of the prior year. However, the Board of Governors reserves the right to review the fees during the year and revise the fees if necessary.

DISCOUNTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

All discounts and Scholarships, including the Family Discount, apply to tuition fees only. Where a student receives a discount and a Scholarship, the Scholarship is applied to the net balance after the application of the discount.

FAMILY DISCOUNT*

For families with more than one child attending the School at the same time, the discount is applied at the following rates:

• 2nd child 10%

• 3rd child 20%

• 4th & subsequent children 30%

Sibling discounts are also applicable to family members who attend St Peter’s College through the Anglican Single Sex Schools Discount. This discount does not apply to students receiving a scholarship or any other form of discount, except Clergy or Family discount. Only the Anglican Single Sex Schools Discount or the Family discount will apply.

*Please contact the School to obtain the Sibling Discount Form if applicable.

DISCOUNT AVAILABLE FOR FEES PAID IN ADVANCE

A discount of 2% is available on the annual tuition fees for the current year if the tuition fees are paid in full by the due date for the Semester 1 fees. Tuition fees for future years (for a maximum of two years) can be paid for the relevant levels at the current year’s rate if paid in full before 30 June of the current year. This discount only applies to fees discounted due to the Clergy, Family and Anglican Schools discounts. This discount does not apply to any scholarships.

RENDERING OF 2025 ACCOUNTS

Accounts for the 2025 tuition fees and the 2025 ICT Levy will be issued in December 2024. Accounts can be paid for the full year (attracting a 2% discount on the tuition fees) or by semester in January (Terms 1 and 2) and June (Terms 3 and 4) or by 10 monthly installments from January to October. Accounts are also issued each term for non-compulsory activities such as music instrument hire and participation in extra-curricular activities including rowing, gymnastics and dance.

Accounts for the 2025 Fixed Charge will be issued in November 2024.

DIVORCE OR SEPARATION

The School advises that if both parents have signed the Enrolment Confirmation Form, a parent cannot remove himself or herself from the enrolment contract without the School’s and the other parent’s consent.

This means that unless the School agrees, the legal liability for fees remains in accordance with the Enrolment Confirmation Form.

SENIOR SCHOOL FEES

Where a student attends the School for Years 10 to 12 and completes Year 12, the full fees for each year will apply regardless of the number of subjects studied each year.

EXTERNAL COURSES

Where a student in Year 11 or Year 12 undertakes an external course approved by the School, the School will reimburse fees paid up to $1,000 per course.

To obtain the reimbursement, the parent/guardian must submit evidence of payment for the course to the School’s VET Coordinator.

HOLDING FEE

There will be no remission of fees for a student’s temporary absence from the School for any period of less than one term. For a temporary absence greater than one term, a holding fee will apply to preserve the student’s position. The holding fee will equate to a quarter of the term’s tuition fee per term of absence (at the rate applicable at the time of absence), payable in advance. Parents/guardians seeking consideration for a student’s absence longer than two terms must apply in writing to the Principal.

APPLICATION FOR ENROLMENT

In accordance with the Enrolment Policy of St Peter’s Girls’ School, all students are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential. The School has an inclusive Enrolment Policy and thus all applications are welcome.

All parents of prospective students are required to complete an Application Form and to pay the nonrefundable Application Fee. Upon receipt of the completed Application Form, the applicant’s name is added to the waiting list of those seeking entry in the year and at the year level nominated.

All applicants are requested to supply the following information with the Application Form:

• Sight original or certified copy of applicant’s Birth Certificate

• Copy of applicant’s Passport and/or Visa Grant Letter (if applicable)

• Any current reports and/or assessments related to your child’s needs, e.g. educational testing carried out by an accredited professional

• Any special requirements, e.g. health, personal care

• Any past or current agency support

• Copy of most recent school report/NAPLAN report

ELC PROGRAMS

The ELC offers programs for 2 to 5 year olds. These programs require a minimum booking of days:

• 2 and 3 year old - 2 day minimum

• 4 and 5 year old - 3 day minimum

We offer weekly Playgroup sessions for children aged 6 months to 2 years, accompanied by their parents or carers, and run a flexible and stimulating Vacation Care program each school holiday period for ELC students aged 2 to 5.

RECEPTION ENROLMENT AGE

Students who turn 5 years of age between 1 October and 30 April may commence Reception in Term 1. Students who turn 5 years of age between 1 May and 30 September may commence Reception in Term 3 and complete 18 months of Reception.

Within these dates, consideration will be given to the developmental needs of individual students. This may relate to physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs and a student’s overall readiness to commence school.

ENROLMENT CRITERIA AND PROCEDURES

Enrolment applications are placed on a waiting list and places are offered subject to the following priorities:

• The date when the application is received

• Siblings attending St Peter’s Girls’ School or Early Learners’ Centre

• Daughters or granddaughters of Old Scholars

• Students who are awarded a Scholarship

• Compassionate and special circumstances at the discretion of the Principal

It is the case in all enrolments that, if materially false or misleading statements are made in the Application Form, or if relevant information is not disclosed at the time of enrolment, the Principal has discretion to terminate an enrolment at any time, where the Principal is reasonably justified in doing so.

CONFIRMATION OF ENROLMENT

A formal offer of a place at our School will be made by the Principal/Enrolments Director after an enrolment interview up to two years prior to the requested entry date. ELC places are offered up to one semester prior to the requested entry date. Acceptance of the offer is confirmed by returning a signed Enrolment Confirmation Form. School places must also be secured by payment of a non-refundable Confirmation Fee.

Places are allocated having regard to the criteria for enrolment set out above. If the year of entry is fully enrolled and a place cannot be offered, the application will be transferred to the waiting list of the following year.

The person(s) signing the Enrolment Confirmation Form will be required to accept liability jointly and severally for the payment of fees, and are expected to support the School’s rules and regulations.

It is the responsibility of Parents/Guardians to provide the School with change of address details, telephone numbers, or information concerning changes to family circumstances. Failure to do so may preclude an applicant from receiving an offer of enrolment.

CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

Parents will be required to agree to the following arrangements as a condition of enrolment at the School:

• At all times during School outings, the staff in charge shall have the same powers of control and guardianship as the Parent/Guardian would have if present, including the power to consent to emergency medical, surgical or hospital treatment, and the Parent/Guardian will be responsible for any expense incurred for, or on behalf of, the student.

• The School will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to clothes and effects of students. The Parent/Guardian will be responsible for all breakages and damage to School property caused by a student. The cost of repairs or replacement will be added to the student’s account.

• The student shall comply with any requirements the School may make in respect of dress, general appearance, behaviour and participation in the School’s program of activities.

• The School reserves the right to suspend a student for disciplinary purposes, temporarily or permanently, without a refund of fees.

• The person(s) signing the Enrolment Confirmation Form agrees to pay full fees by the due date shown on the term’s account and accepts that in the event of an overdue amount, they may incur the prescribed late payment fee.

• The School requires copies of all Court Orders relating to the guardianship, custody, residence, parental responsibility, care, control or welfare of students.

These conditions must be accepted by a student’s Parents/Guardians, in writing, before commencement at the School.

DEFERRALS

Applicants may elect to defer the point of entry to a later year level. Deferrals need to be notified in writing to the Enrolments Manager. Applicants will then be added to the waiting list of the requested entry year level according to the date of their original application. Placements cannot be guaranteed, and applicants on the waiting list will be considered for enrolment in their preferred entry year level in accordance with the same criteria for all other enrolments as set out under Enrolment Criteria and Procedures.

CANCELLATION OR WITHDRAWAL OF AN ENROLMENT

Cancellation of an enrolment prior to starting at the ELC or School must be made in writing to the School.

When a student leaves the School prior to the completion of Year 12, one full term’s notice is required in writing to the Principal. Where less than one full term’s notice of withdrawal is given in writing to the Principal, one term’s School fees will be payable in lieu of notice. An equivalent fee may also be payable by a family who cancels enrolment after having accepted a place to commence at the School where less than one full term’s notice of withdrawal is given in writing to the Principal.

For ELC enrolments, four weeks’ notice must be given in writing to the Enrolments Manager or four weeks’ fees will be payable. This also applies to new students who have accepted a place but withdraw before commencing. If a placement is accepted and then withdrawn, four weeks’ fees will be charged.

ELC LICENSING

St Peter’s Girls’ ELC is an Approved Child Care Centre and therefore registered for the Child Care Subsidy.

PRIVACY POLICY

St Peter’s Girls is bound by the National Privacy principles contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act. Information supplied on the Application Form will be used in accordance with the School’s Privacy Policy. The Policy can be obtained via www.stpetersgirls. sa.edu.au
