SPORTS SCIENCE
These assessments are made internally throughout the course and are moderated externally in the Spring term of Year 11. If students wish to be assessed in an activity that we do not participate in at school then video evidence can be submitted to PE staff for assessment.

Written Performance Analysis Assessment (10%)
Students complete a written Analysis and Improvement task on one of their three practical activities.

What will I study? Theory
Compulsory theory units:
• Reducing the risk of injuries in sport
• Applying the principles of training
Optional theory units: students will study two of the following four units (staff decision)
• The body’s response to physical activity
• Sport psychology
• Sports nutrition
• Technology in sport

Practical
This course does not include any assessments of practical sporting performance. Therefore, it is most suited to those students who have an interest in furthering their knowledge and understanding of sports science but who do not perform at a high level in practical sporting activities.
How will I be assessed?
• 1 x 1 hour written paper OCR set and marked - two attempts.
• Remaining units assessed through centreassessed tasks (coursework) moderated by OCR.
Which other subjects complement Physical Education and what courses could it progress to?
Modules are closely associated with Biology, Chemistry, Physical and Food Technology. Students will also use their Maths skills when analysing data.
It is highly suited to those students who wish to progress onto A-level Physical Education or Level 3 BTEC Sport.
