Editorial From the Editor Hello all, and welcome to your May edition of the Stowmarket and District Flyer. As always a very busy month here, not helped by bringing the flyer print dates forward. You may have noticed that you're receiving this month's edition about a week early and we hope to keep it this way. We were finding that the flyer was crossing over 2 months making the "what's on" guide a little tricky to put together.

Gary Rayner, Editor of the Stowmarket Flyer Im sitting here on Friday the 23rd writing to you

from my office and the sun is shining, the weather is warm, and it's been like this for over a week now (are we finally seeing the start of a BBQ summer??!) If you want to make the most of your garden this Summer, please visit 2 of the best garden centres in Suffolk, their details are inside. Next month we will have a full feature on them. So, if you have any questions you would like answered please contact us and we will ask the experts and get back to you in next month's edition. All at the Flyer hope your May will be as good as April was. Keep smiling and I'll speak to you next month. Gary Rayner - Editor

Town 102 music review Town 102 Music Review East Sussex doesn't have that many claims to fame - apart from the Seven Sisters, the pier at Eastbourne and the A21 running out of Hastings, it's distinctly un-rock'n'roll. Of course, Keane changed all that with the release of album 'Hopes and Fears' in 2004 - and suddenly, everybody wanted a piece of the awesome threesome from Battle on the south coast. Zip forward to the edge of summer 2010 and it feels like Keane have been a little on the quiet side of late. In fact, they've been touring extensively - playing packed gigs from Russia to Colombia and spending their days off writing and recording new material. The result is eight-track mini-album, 'Night Train' - out 10th May - featuring new single 'Stop For A Minute'. From the first few bars of this first single in over a year, it is absolutely and unmistakably Keane - that piano, Tom Chaplin's vocals - but (and to misquote a certain retailer), this isn't just Keane: this is Keane featuring the rapper K'Naan. On paper, it's an unusual collaboration, but musically it's a rather beautiful infusion of Tim Rice-Oxley's piano-tinkling with

a generous dash of K'Naan's vocals. It's a great springboard for the multi-award winning rapper, showcasing his vocal skills to a whole new audience, and for the apprehensive rock fans amongst us: it doesn't take anything away from Keane's side of things. It's a coming-together of two huge names from their respective arenas, gelled by beautiful beats and melodies - it really does work. Keane are coming to East Anglia this summer, performing a sold-out show in the unique surroundings of Thetford Forest on Thursday 10th June as part of the Forestry Commission's live music series. Bacton triumph in Junior Cup Bacton United 2-1 Sudbury Athletic The final, between the SIL's Bacton United 89 and Sudbury Athletic, was played in front of an impressive sized crowd of 784, who witnessed a tense and thrilling match at Portman Road.

BUFC - Photo by Brian Barker Graham Drury put Bacton ahead with an emphatic volley from 10 yards out. Just ten minutes later, Sudbury got the equaliser from the penalty spot, bringing the score to 1 - 1 at half time. With twenty minutes remaining, Bacton's Drury scored his second goal of the evening, which proved to be the winner. When the full time whistle sounded, the celebrations started. Joyous scenes among the players and spectators were a sight to behold, as Bacton left the pitch victorious. Speaking after the match Bacton Manager, Paul Evans, said 'It's just unbelievable Geoff'.

Stowmarket Tennis Club

A small fundraising event for Sport Relief held recently at Stowmarket Tennis Club just grew and grew and eventually raised over £800. Two young men, Tom Darling and Craig Dawson managed to play a full 24-hours of tennis while the rest of the club opted to pay and play in hour long sessions over a 24 hour period. Eventually over 50 members got involved and the event was finished in style with Josh Bolt and Oliver Whiting (Both high ranking Suffolk Mens' players) taking on club member Gustavo Huss of Argentina and our club coach Chris Cunningham in a highly entertaining and exciting match. The winners on this occasion were Josh and Oliver but everyone is hoping to see a re-match sometime in the near future.
