Watch our website for additions or changes to our public program offerings DID YOU KNOW that squirrels bury red oak acorns for the winter but eat white oak acorns right away? White oak acorns germinate in the fall while red oak acorns hold off through winter and germinate in the spring. They stay fresh due to their high tannin content, which acts as a preservative. The squirrels know these acorns will store better! Check out our YouTube channel for more info about what YOU can forage in the parks.
